  • Twin Weber DCOE carbs on my Alfa Romeo 1750 GTv
Here I go through the process of setting idle, balancing the carbs and setting the mixture screws to tune these carbs at idle.
I hope this is of help to anyone trying to balance and tune their Webers.

One of the easiest and best explanations I’ve seen in RUclips, this really helped me out. Thank you 👍

The critical step is ensuring that, when adjusting the idle speed, you do NOT allow the first progression hole to be "exposed" and therefore supplying fuel at idle.

No trumpets on carbs? This is original set up?

This is still the original set up, I love the look of the big original air cleaner

My '69 GTV has a strange starting problem. She refuses to start from cold, despite having an excellent trickle-charged battery. So I walk away for ten minutes, turn the key and she starts first time. Leaving the car undisturbed for ten minutes changes everything. What's going on?
I had the same problem with a B-Series engine in an Austin, back in the 1980s and never got to the bottom of it.

I had the same problem with this GTv for a few years, I even had to pour fuel in the carbs to get the first start. I then bought 2 brand new Webers, and the issue was better but still there, I then changed the coil to a sports coil and put in an electronic 123 distributor and it sorted the issue out and car starts first time now.

What do have your timing set at?
Check the dizzy and make sure it is clean and not worn out. What type of dizzy do you have? Have you checked your fuel if to see if it is dirty, check the fuel filter, and the filter in the carbs?
      Have you cleaned the jets?
Do have enough fuel in carb bowls?
Have you checked the spark plugs for fouling and the gap?
When the car is on, pull each plug out of the spark plug one at a time and check if the engine noise changes.
What is your car starting procedure ?

@@RichieRich845 All good and it's a very nice motor.
The only strange phenomenon is that it starts first time if I leave it for ten minutes.
Not unique. Had a BMC B-series engine do the same, back in the day.

@@raypurchase801 what do you mean by leave for 10 minutes?
Do you leave the car running for 10 minutes and then it switches off by itself or do you switch the car off and then come back 10 minutes later and you can't start the car?

Aware that IF willing to buy a MegaSquirt and retrofit recycled Fuel injectors.. The Old alfa engine will be both More powerful and run better.

      Hi Bon
It’s located between the carbs, I show it with a blue circle at 0:59 secs into the video.
