I live in Philly and I know that gentrification is real. This city has five major colleges. We should be one of the most advanced and educated city in the world.
We have been dumb down.
They can’t retain any of the students because the city has horrible paying jobs.... they fix that and we’ll stay. I go to temple for Cs and Physics and I see no need to stay here after I graduate. Horrible architecture, horrible jobs, horrible neighborhoods
As a life long New Yorker that recently moved to Philly the job market is very strong and booming for educated, skilled workers. The pay in Philly, Philly suburbs and Cherry Hill NJ area are par with NYC with a lower cost of living.

Not all of Philly is the "hood". There are beautiful neighborhoods, wonderful universities, historic sites, museums, wonderful restaurants, awesome theaters and venues, great sports complexes, world class medical facilities and unbelievable architecture and much more

People DO NOT CARE, pedestrians treat the street like an extension of the sidewalk, or in some areas the sidewalk is an extension of the street for cars. Double parking with no urgency is rampant and don't honk your horn, because you shouldn't be in a rush to live your life and go about your day, so you are not going to get a pleasant response even if you kindly sat behind the car for an extended period before you did.

I lived in West Philly for a long time , that’s where my aunt and grandmother live I have family all over Philadelphia we used to hop the bus go all the way to Erie Pennsylvania Hersheypark Germantown, we had a lot of fun running all over Philadelphia. A good place it prepared me for when I got sent out here. Lots of people here talking bad about Philadelphia I have always stood my ground, that’s my hometown and state that built America. I like the way you are keeping it real, keep on because you are there new generation. I still have many friends there as well they keep me informed. God bless.

I think a lot of people make a big mistake trying to bring their communities up. They always jump to step 2 and forget the most important step. Step 1 is get your family and your household right. If you don’t complete step 1, the rest is a waste of time. Funny thing is, fulfilling step 1 inherently makes the community better. Simple shit. Don’t overthink it or think at all, just act on it. Uplift your brother, sister, mom, dad, cousins, etc...... ain’t a whole lot to that other than loving them and looking after them.

My family moved to south jersey from Phila. Love that city. I understand why these guys are doing what they’re doing. Out there it’s “only the strong survive”. A lot of them lose hope and think that’s the only way to make it. A lot of them don’t know that there are opportunities for them but they have to be willing to put some work in. Construction is a way out. All you need is a diploma or GED and they can make $50+ an hour in Phila! Everybody can eat. Doesn’t matter if you have a record or not. Anyway, the takeover is real, between the colleges and corporate America, gentrification is definitely going on. I pray for these guys. Love y’all man. ✊🏾
