1999 Canobie Lake amusement park featuring the Arcades & some rides

- I ran a website from 1994 til the mid 2000s "Nate's Guide to Classic New England Arcades". On the advice of Gary Vincent of Fun Spot on locations to check out, he suggested Canobie Lake Park. I first visited in 1998, and was amazed what a time machine this place was for a classic arcade enthusiast like myself. I videoed every year from 1998 til just a few years ago. The park featured three arcades plus machines in other areas. Special thanks to the arcade tech Jeff, now of Shoot Again Amusements for taking me behind the scenes to see games in storage areas. It's my understanding most of these "extremely rare" arcade games were destroyed just a few years back for a tax write off. So the next time I MAME a not so unusual video game, be easy.

Takes me right back to my childhood. Thank you so much for posting! My favorite attraction as a child was the Mine of Lost Souls. Something about the aesthetic and atmosphere of the interior and exterior always intrigued me. I always wished I could see old footage of me and the family at the park in the late 90s/early 2000s.
The Mine of Lost Souls is my favorite ride too, as classic dark rides usually are at parks. There is always a line, I'd love to see them build a 2nd classic dark ride at the park since it is always a big draw.
I visited the park this weekend again. I had not been in almost a decade. Between 1998 until around 10 years ago, I visited several times a year. Part of the big draw were the hundreds of classic arcade machines, many from the early 1970s and even 60s, along with tons of classic video games. Very sadly, most of these are gone forever at the park as they were destroyed for a tax write off. I was so mad about that. They do have a Pinball Parlor now and maybe a dozen classic video games, and a few very old ski ball machines. The park otherwise still has retained most of their classic rides they've had.
I've taken many photos of the park and video clips, especially since 2007 when I got a pocket sized digital camera with decent video camera mode.
Been going to Canobie every summer since ‘05 and it’s crazy to see how it was just a few years earlier
I started with Canobie as part of the Screeemfest in 2009; A year later they moved us from the Dance Hall to the Roller Rink. There was a rumor that the building was storing old arcade games, hence they made a scary arcade in the scary clown house. But seeing the old cars was mind-blowing, along with other details around the park. This should be featured as part of an Encyclopedia Britannica presentation about the history of Canobie, or some shit.

my best time at Canobie was in 2001! and I got to get wet with the Boston Tea Party and enjoy the rides and did a western photo shoot.

Fantastic footage!! I miss the old days when Canobie Lake Park actually had good games. Not all the new ticket redemption trash... they must have switched up management there or something cause they got rid of all the old school stuff :( at least the pinball parlor is a thing though
If you can believe it, I heard from a reliable source that most of these games were destroyed for a tax write off with in the past decade or so. The horror! They had to have known they were “super rare” and very few of the EM games are still in existence. Unbelievable the fate of the games, in this age. Collectors and other arcades would have been all over that, and likely would have paid good money. The park has always had a policy to not sell games or spend money for parts to repair them. The person that repaired the games when this video was shot greatly cared about the classic games and many were fixed in the following years. I have video from the next 10 seasons or so of the arcades.

I'd like to upload them. My upload speed is painfully slow. It would probably take hours for a short clip. I need to upgrade, or borrow someone's connection to send them. Download speeds are decent though.
It took me hours to send up a clip under two minutes on my boat a couple weeks ago.

Bob Gomez Many of them were fixed in the following 2 years. I have video footage of those trips too. Since discovering the park, I visited several times a year until they destroyed the games in the mid 2000s for a tax write off.
