- The Orange County Sheriff's Department released bodycam footage from the deputy-involved shooting where a suspect was shot in the head inside of a Lake Forest Walmart.
Dude was facing a simple fraud charge. Resists arrest, goes for his knife, goes for a gun, goes to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, and then goes to prison for a long time. What a winner. This guy deserves the Bad Decision Lifetime Achievement Award.

Instead of fraud + whatever the outstanding warrant was for, he now has additional charges of assaulting three officers, using lethal weapons, resisting arrest, public endangerment; don't bring a gun to a crime unless you're willing to die there. My wife was a coach at a Walmart in Toledo, Ohio. They had all sorts of things like this happen, only difference is the cops rarely would respond to their calls. They had to deal with people like this on their own.

Quick story from a friend of mine. His step dad once had a similar situation except when the dude was trying to get the gun up into the air a random dude on the street ran up and stomped his hand shattering nearly every bone in it allowing my friends step dad and the other officers to arrest him safely. I believe the random stranger was taken out to dinner and invited to a weekend cookout with the deputies.
This video would’ve been a lot more fulfilling if we watched the civilian stomp this dudes hand instead of “Gun! Shoot him!”

No brains = no brain damage
As weird as it sounds, pistol shots to the head aren't always lethal and that largely has to do with:
1) disruption of the brain material (hydrostatic shock, escaping gas from barrel, critical brain damage.)
2) whether the skull itself was actually penetrated.
With #1, a lot of death from a headshot is because either a high velocity round causes enough disruption to cause the flesh around the skull to split and separate (exploding heads from rifle/shotgun rounds) or the escaping gas from an execution causing all sorts of horrible damage (the skull shatters from the pressure and the head inflates to roughly 2x in size because the skin doesn't spilt. It's common to see eyeballs popped out of their sockets from pistol executions). Ahad Israfil is an quintessential example of a headshot victim that survived when there's no excessive trauma.
#2 is more common where the round doesn't penetrate the skull. Sometimes, it's lodged, but more commonly it's deflected. There was an old case in Chicago (70's) where a guy robbed a tire store and got shot in the head by the owner with a .38 special. The man survived as the bullet didn't penetrate the skull, but rather traveled around inside the skin and outside the skull and exited from the back of his head.

You could probably come up with 100 scenarios that never happened to say "One decision" but in real life there is cause and effect. Even in that situation, assuming you are of sound mind, there would have had to have been something to motivate you to do so. Say you're walking down the road in a bad mood. (1st bad decision) Then a random man starts hurling insults at you, and instead of walking away you participate in the argument and getting even more angry. (2nd decision) Finally your anger boils over and you push the man off a cliff and he dies. The final bad decision. Unless you are fully mentally insane with no concept of right or wrong or reality, there will always be a chain of smaller bad decisions that lead to your final one.

What's crazy is that the deputy initially was so nice and actually gave the perp great advice in getting a job. Instead of immediately placing him in handcuffs and taking the suspect to jail, he wanted to try to help the guy change his mindset and help him get his life together so that he can have a second chance at the future, but the suspect got offended and started to fight the cop and even pulled out a gun at the officer. Disgusting. I am pretty sure he never worked before and doesn't want to work. Any person with some sort of decency and common sense, even being in a difficult situation, would have thanked the officer and got their act together, but he chose not to. I guess he enjoys making money like that, by stealing from honest hard working people and getting into trouble. Sad.

There's no sense in taxpayers paying 50k a year to keep a crackhead locked up. Rehabilitation would benefit us more than anything. There's around 1.8 million people locked up right now at 40k a person each year. That's 72 billion in taxes each year. And thats the unrealistically low end number. High security costs way more per inmate. Im also excluding medical costs for inmates....

Even if a person complies and the cops still arrest or hurt that person, they have a 99% greater chance of winning their case than if they fail to comply, because if a person fails to comply, then it's on them no matter what happens to them, and resisting arrest is a very serious charge. Best method of handling police encounters is to remain silent, remain civil and courteous but don't interact with the officers if you think that can incriminate you. Talk with a lawyer immediately. Don't consent to any unwarranted or illegal searches or seizures, but don't fight the officers if they still search you, take them to court. Ask for witnesses if necessary. Never resist even if you are right. If they ask you to put your hands up, put your hands up but don't talk. Show them your ID, insurance and registration if they ask you for identification. If you think your rights are being violated, record the cop if you can with a cell phone and document any injuries, and their names and badge number. But do not fight or resist. If they ask you to get out of the car, get out. If they ask you to open your window, open your window. Be polite but make a complaint if your rights are being violated. And people should never ever put themselves in a situation where they are purposely looking for trouble or looking for an opportunity to sue the police. We have rights to record a police officer from a safe distance if we see cops abusing their power but we should never interfere with their arrest. The point of recording and making complaints is to hold cops accountable if they mess up. That's a BIG difference than just coming in cop's way of them making an arrest and interfering with their investigation or looking for trouble, and it's crazy how so many people don't get it.
