Playing the Maker of the Game

- We're going up against Bearlike, Project Lead and Founder of River Studio - the makers of Mechabellum. He's a very strong player who clearly knows the game inside and out, can we keep up or will his insider knowledge give him the edge?
Anything you think I've done wrong or could do better please let me know, I'm always looking to improve both my gameplay and the video quality. Thanks again for watching!

Part of the ship, part of the crew! Appreciate all the help I've been given, big thanks everyone.
Hi.
Hey Bearlike! Hope you don't mind me using our game :D
As per the video, Fortress does not require a nerf. Okay? ... Okay. Thank you and good evening.
Every single drn video is a salve to my burning need for mech battles and smooth narration. Thank you once again!
You are far too kind Zuul! Thanks for watching as always and helping feed* (edit - spelling!) the algorithm too.
Another great game, real back and forth watching the tides come crashing in into a rushing recede as it was very win lose repeat.
Other than the missed shield on the first missile turn which you and Editor DRN beat yourself up over i think a great game. The only thing on the board that was really a threat to Fortresses were the high level teched out Arclights, and as you said, that little bit of RNG with perfect timed shield Forts blocking the Oil.
I'm trying to get better at the wonderful narrative word-play you are able to do live in game. The thunderous marching of fangs and chittering legs of crawlers diving in the thick of combat, knowing full well their part to play, under the cover of shields and earth trembling firepower of the Fortresses. The final charge breaking through and bringing an end the creator of all, until next time.
Edits are on point, easy to follow, i would have totally missed that backline mission im guessing was placed for the Rhino drop.
Wishing you the best of luck and all the Sledgehammers!
Thanks dude! Grew up reading Warhammer battle reports from magazines in the 90s where a lot of games were abstracted out into stories. So instead of saying "we took the objective on turn 2" or "so and so failed his saving roll" they'd make it a narrative experience with a journey and a story but also some reflection on choices made and what they could've done better in the game.
Always loved that layer of imagination and storytelling within the gaming experience. Played most of our games as kids with no money using imaginary models or proxy random everyday objects like coins to represent models we didn't own. Sometimes when it feels right I'll let that side breathe in the moment and experience the chaos of the battlefield in my mind's eye rather than remain in the observant analytical side which can be a bit cold and detached. It's fun to see and understand both the "what" and the "why" of the battle unfolding in front of our eyes.
At the end of the day giant mechs blasting each other to bits with lasers and rockets is awesome!
Dude you are amazing! Great edeting and explanations + i have to smile way too often watching ur vids :) thank you!
Thanks Paul, compliments like these always make my day! Put a lot of effort into both playing the game and editing the videos so it's great to know it's worth it! Thanks for watching as always.
Great stuff as usual. That round 6 board flip was unexpectedly delicious. 🍲
Was a very fun game! Still live in fear of Arclight carry so probably focus in on it too much but do find it's very handy to come into a game mentally prepared with an "if x, then y" strategy in your back pocket.
Good luck with the tournies today! Might play the American cup if I can finish editing tomorrow's video in time to get an early night tonight and then get up super early to play.
Love watching Fortresses crunch medium units!
Haha, the big guns never tire!
i love your storytelling, it's joyful! :D and thanks for all the tactical insights -gold
Thanks, you're too kind!
I envy your strategic maneuvers and your word smithing. Thanks for the videos good sir
Howie! My thanks for your kind words always makes my day! You are a gentleman and a scholar as always. Stay awesome!
DRN, you're on fire man!!!
Well played!
Thanks dude, was a really fun game. Hopefully you can get another shot at beating Bearlike next week yourself!
I need to say for an ex SupCom player this.... is so great to watch, good old mechanical on mechanical unit violence, with a logical explanation. Wonderful content.
Thanks dude! I'm an ex SupCom player too and War Factories in Mechabellum give me a massive nostalgia trip to Fatboy spam in SupCom :D
@Drone_101 I could have guessed cause how you explained some things really really reminded me of my old SupCom Ts chats when I was trying to just win. I am really on to try this game and, of course, subscribe for more amazing content.
@@thatonesaltygerman5163 Thanks, do what you enjoy dude! Don't feel obligated for anything. If my videos don't suit you after you've learned the fundamentals it's totally okay - there are far better players than me out there :D
Damn, i really thought "this will be the game where DRN is nailed by his opoonent" and then he somehow manages to clutch it
Correct me if I'm wrong, but going arclight carry is a mistake, is it not? Specjfically going for the anti air, since you're paying 600 + the normal upgrade cost while your enemy doesn't have much in terms of air besides some phoenixes, menaing that it would be more cost effective to as an example get sniper with AA specialization (to target air instead of ground units too)
Yep - we both made mistakes this game. You could argue it's wrong for me to match Arclight Range on my Arclights when we're already behind on tempo and levels on them.
For Bearlike I think it's less than optimal to pay that +600 Gold tax to get a fourth tech on them when he had Marksmen standing right behind them that could take the exact same Tech. And it's actually a better tech on Marskmen as it gives both bonus Damage and Range vs aerial units for the MM but NOT the Arclights.
The only advantage to having AA on the Arclights is if you think your opponent is going Wasps and you want to kill them quickly en-mass. But even then it's probably better to go Fortress with AA Barrage or Mustang with AA to have more variety in the final composition. Single unit heavy builds will generally lose to a balanced Counter build like you see here. Hope that makes sense!
drn drinking game - every time he exclaims "ooohhh" with a descending tone, take a shot 👌👌
Oooohhhh! Good idea. (Sorry not sorry :D )
@@Drone_101 no need for sorry bruv 👍
its strange watching a video where i dont see the "nerpz thinks you will win" notification pop up lol. ahh the unnecessary pressure 😆
Hahaha, have missed it dude, hope you're doing well! Today's video I'll talk about why I prefer it when people vote against me, it motivates me and gives me extra fire in my belly wanting to prove the doubters wrong.
Nice, a new Video^^
Thanks for the support hope it was worth the wait!
Love me some rhinos, even if they come about somewhat accidentally
Accidental Rhino aggro is a fun way to play :D
love your vids. And you are soooo wholesome :D
Thanks! Feel I've been lucky enough to get to live and appreciate the wonderful marvel that is enjoying games against people from all over the world and everyone from this community is so supportive and kind.
Can spend my morning coffee discussing the day's weather in Kyoto while playing one opponent, and then my evenings hearing about the plans my friends in the States have for the rest of the day ahead of them. Hope you have a great day!
Everyone knows red is three times the speed. Yes. Everyone. You are definitely not outing yourself.
And stealthy ones are purple! Love sneaking references in ;D
Hi \o/
Hey! Hope you enjoyed the video :D
