Thanks for this. I have a different challenge. I have a Tascam US-428 but Tascam discontinued updating Mac OS drivers. Last one available is for 10.4 (Panther, I think.) I'm now up to Catalina, 10.15. Are there native drivers in OS that will work with the 428? Or maybe built into recording software, like Cubase, GarageBand or Logic? ANY leads greatly appreciated. Otherwise, the 428 is junk.

Hey man REALLY need your help!! Processing Drums on Cubase using the SAME interface! Can you make a vid on your editing drums? starting from Mic placement, on to the Cubase and if you use Cubase plugins or VST plugins?? I use 5 to 6 mics on my kit. the overhead mic makes it harder for me to get the snare drum sound less echo. please help!
I might make a video about drum recording and mixing in the future, but for now I can already tell some things you can do to reduce the snare echo. 1: dampen your snare. Put a dampening ring on your snare head or stick a dampening gel on it. Don't have those? don't worry, I don't have those either. Just take some toiletpaper and tape it to your snare head. 2: Is the room you are recording in acousticly treated? If you play in a small room with bare walls you will get a lot of echo. Try putting some foam, insulation or even egg-cartons on your wall to deaden the echo in your room. Hanging curtains or bedding sheets in front of your wall also helps a lot and is even cheaper. and also put a fluffy carpet on the ground. 3: If your overheads still pick up a lot of echo from your snare, try to aim your overheads more towards your cymbals and away from your snare. I have Tascam US-322 very simple, Cubase (those within a simple pack i bought brand new), and perfect laptop indows 10. PROBLEM: each track is duplicated when trying to record the following. Ex. track 1 guitar, track 2 duplicates de sound and draw track 1 allowing to record ( a voice as Ex) but unable to diferentiate it from the previous track. I don't know if I completely understand your problem but I think you are saying that both tracks are getting/recording the same audio input? are you using 2 different microphones? 1 for your guitar (or direct guitar input) and one for vocals? if so, I think you haven't propperly set up your configurations in cubase yet. Look closely in my video at 5:20, the part about VST connections. make sure you add 2 mono channels in the input pane, you will see that one of them is named M1 and the other M2. now look at what I do in the video at 6:25. Make sure that your two channels/tracks (one for guitar, and one for your vocal) are set to M1 and the other to M2. Now you should get two different tracks of audio input. I think you will have both tracks set to M1, that would explain why they both get the same audio input only from M1. hope this solves your issue! -Rutger
You need to change each channel in your software to match the channel of each mic that you are using on the Tascam. For instance, if you are using a snare on channel 3, then in the software your track 3 should be snare, and then you have to set your input bus to channel 3 as well. Most DAW software suites do not know what you want to do, you have to tell it what to do.

Lots of driver auto install problems with latest budget audio interfaces also heard of buffer size problems with lower than 512 they also say its sounds good but not perfect, say that the interface / driver arent perfect and they wait for a fix because they like this interface , somehow the velvet series from focusrite are still considered more reliable but the preamps from the tascam us 16x8 are better. was at the store today talked to the salesman, he said he was going to buy one for himself with no kidding, he wasnt looking like talking s*** , the better option was the apogee series but thats just out of my range.they say that the tascam us 16x8 is a good solution for recording if you have a strong computer, but buffer size problems with cubase 5 were reported

this one has 8 XLR inputs for microphones. and 2 jack inputs but i'm not sure about those. follow the steps I've shown in this video to know how to use it
There are 8 xlr inputs, 2 mono line inputs, and 3 stereo pairs (line) on the back. you could plug in guitar and bass into the first 2 line inputs on the front, 1-7 mics for drums, 1 mic for vocals, and a stereo on the back for keyboard.

Hey Rutger, bedankt voor de prima uitleg. Bij mij werkt het niet, begrijp er geen reet van. Werk met dezelfde kaart, en mac, cubase 6, Hoor dus al het geluid, op verschillende kanalen, maar cubase krijgt geen ingangsignaal. Ik ga ff verder zoeken.
+Leon Fictoor dus je hoort het geluid door je speakers/headphones maar het record niets? dit zou je probleem kunnen zijn: als je kijkt in mijn filmpje hierboven naar minuut 6:24 zie je de 3 geselecteerde kanalen onder elkaar staan, en in elk kanaal zie je een rode knop met een zwarte stip in. Deze rode knop duid aan dat de kanalen klaar staan om op te nemen. Juist rechts naast de rode knop zie je een knop met het tekentje van een luidspreker in. als die knop ingedrukt is hoor je rechtstreeks de input van je mic realtime door je speaker/headphones maar dan kan je het NIET opnemen. Als je wilt opnemen moet je zeker zien dat de knop met het luidsprekertje grijs is/af staat, en de record knop aanstaat/rood is. Ik hoop dat het een beetje duidelijk is. Als hiermee je probleem nog niet is opgelost zal je een iets duidelijkere/gedetailleerdere uitleg moeten geven en dan zal ik verder zoeken wat de oorzaak kan zijn. -Rutger

I'm not entirely sure you can do that. What is your intention? Connect a microphone to your interface and make the sound come out of your monitors/speakers? that's not what an interface does, I think you need a mixing panel for that.
Connect your monitors to one of the outputs of the interface. In Cubase/Logic/Pro Tools you need to make sure that your assigning the output bus to those outs on the interface. Easy.
not working at all cuz my computer says it doesn't know what it is and normally you just have to right click it and install the driver but after that it says there's a problem and could not be installed, don't know what to do please help
My Tascam US600 used to be a solid interface but I made the mistake of updating the firmware. Always leave firmware on version 1.0 or you'll have a paper weight.

When I finish recording I can't play the file, if I don't use the Cubase the sound doesn't come out
make sure you're computer sound card can be set to same kh as wav file not all are equal.
Tascam should be ashamed for putting out bad firmware to try to get people to upgrade
