What I found the strangest about the debate around whether Jesus was a historical figure was how difficult it was to tell which of the people debating believed which position based on their arguments. I think it was Ehrman and Carrier, but I'm not sure. Basically, it seemed to be a disagreement over whether to assign the label "Jesus" to a guy who likely existed in some sense but we know virtually nothing about.

There was a time in my life where I would have called myself an atheist, and I suppose technically I still am, as I KNOW God is not real. From an early age religion, as a concept, has fascinated me, and I've read many different religious books, and attended different services, eastern and western alike. Beyond that I've performed prayers and meditation in my personal time. And, yes, even indulged in psychedelics with a spiritual intent. And why? Well, I'm a medium. I can see vague auras connected by threads to a web of spiritual energy in the sky, and I can affect and be affected by trapped energy (spirits). And I do not believe any of it should go without a scientific explanation. This has, however, led me to try to understand the religious mind, to attempt to see what they see, and to that end, I may have failed. However I have reached a conclusion, there is a "spiritual force," (I can see it) and every religion is it's own attempt to explain it, usually adding in a healthy dose of guilt and shame to control the masses. I, however, am convinced there is a scientific explanation, it just simply isn't a field that's given enough attention for any popular theory to take hold.
