My stepbrother’s a fan and was watching them all to catch up, and I was like “Oh, these are badass.” We went to see DRP1 in theaters and I started watching them all myself after that. So in the latest M:I installment (Dead Reckoning), Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) drives a motorcycle off the edge of a cliff, free falls away from the bike and down the wall of the canyon, opens a parachute at an uncomfortably low altitude to try and jump aboard a fast-moving train in a mountainous region. That's all fine and dandy - very impressive, very death-defying. My problem with this sequence is this (SPOILER ALERT): Upon landing, Ethan just happens to crash through the one reinforced window pane at the one exact spot on the one exact train car to knock the one villainous henchman out of the car through the reinforced window pane on the other side at the one precise moment that this action is required without getting so much as a scratch. Rrrright. No one is THAT good. Or lucky.
Sorry, Rebeca, but on "Fallout," Cruise DID get a serious break. On the Grham Norton Show, they slowed down his jump (BTS), and you could his foot TURN SIDEWAYS. That's pretty damn "serious" in my book! His hobbling was for real and as the Pro he is, he kept on "running" (hobbling)! We WILL miss Ilsa; we did hear Fergusson is too tied up with other projects to continue in ep 8. Cruise is a questionable human (eg Scientology et al), but he has to be THE BEST action actor EVER!
HALO stands for High Altitude Low Open. For this scene Cruise jumped out of the airplane at about 25000 feet altitude and deployed the parachute at very low altitude, when he was close to the rooftops.
