I'm glad that someone finally addressed this! I just haven't been able to get into the Notion hype. At first, I thought that it was just that I hadn't found a way to make it work for me. But now I see that I am perfectly fine with a calendar and a to-do list. Plus, all that screen time was just making me more anxious, especially, because so many people are pushing productivity apps for the aesthetics rather than their usefulness.

Me too... it's a headache itself to organise your stuff ......and it tools much more time than doing that in real life......so don't waste your precious time on so called productivity apps....

In Khe Hy's latest email newsletter "Is notion another Shiny New Toy?" he said, self awareness of why you're using this app is what's required. iPad is the most expensive RUclips viewing device.

I have ADHD so the productivity apps are fun at first but it becomes extremely overwhelming in practice so I try and be as simple as possible. For me, what really has made everything simple for me are Excel or Google spreadsheets. I have one for my weekly schedule and then another for assignments and whatever assignment I have due that week, I write on my white board by my office door. Those two methods are ADHD friendly in my opinion and extremely minimal.

This is what I’ve been feeling lately yk. How our apps have garnered our life 24/7 and how we can’t get out of them. It’s making more anxious rather than a minimalist.

When we use many tools, it can become easy to slip into "note overlap" (i.e., when the same notes appear in multiple apps). I think part of implementing digital minimalism means reckoning with note overlap. That's why it's kind of paralyzing to try to phase out tools-for me, at least! Anyway, I'm a huge Cal Newport guy, so I was happy to see you tackle this concept!!

YES. I’ve definitely fallen into the trap of trying to find the perfect app or the perfect workflow. So much so that I’ve spent days trying to organize everything I want to do in life into one single app only for it to not be used after about a week 😅

very nice vlog, can’t wait for the next ones. Last year I bought myself a small good looking paper notebook with a pen holder and a slightly more expensive beautiful ball pen. I carry it everywhere in my pocket and it feels great writing in it. It doesn’t need to be charged (also no need to find charger cables), no updates necessary, it just works. I was the same, notoriously researching apps and their function instead of getting things done. Maybe my small notebook doesn’t provide that many functions but the result is, that I get more things done.

One other tip I’ve been using that kind of helps me stay focused. I have 3 folders on my desktop. And nothing else. They are: Upcoming; This Week; and Today.
Each contain project folders. So I plan out my work perhaps on the weekend, the night before, or the day of. Whatever I need to work on (usually only 1-2 items), go in Today. And I don’t navigate anywhere else for the day. That’s like telling myself, “Hey dufus, stay focused!”
Then I’ll move stuff around the other folders as needed during the week. Oh, and I use colored folders and my Today folder includes a star ⭐️ emoji.

Your video is awesome and it really resonated with me! I constantly download new apps in search for better productivity tools. This summer I took a break from social media by deleting all my social media accounts for about four months. I found that I really needed the time off and it helped me create deeper relationships with some of my friends and family. However I did end up creating a new Facebook and Instagram to keep in touch with many of my friends who live far away, but will be taking periodical long breaks throughout the year as my way to balance things out. 😀

I actually have a daily task that I track. It’s called “Simplify One Thing.”
That’s it. It doesn’t matter if it’s work related or home life. It could be as simple as removing one app or clearing out one unused piece of clothing. Every day, one thing goes away.
If I go days without doing this, the reminder is still there to help me see that everything we have in this world is ultimately more than we need. After all, we came into this world buck naked.

It's so ironic that the abundance and feature-creep of these productivity tools is the very thing that can cause you to become unproductive, just by making you partake in the "meta" task of setting up your own productivity system.
I've come to learn that simpler is better.

This! I like to customize things but I'd rather just use a notepad/sticky notes and pen/pencil or the Notes app. And pomodoro simply doesn't work for me, I tried tweaking it to animedoro for extra motivation/reward and it's still not for me. I also find Google Calendar not helpful, it feels cluttered compared to a physical planner or other digital planners.

Hi! You hit a great point there! More in general, filtering what is relevant from what is not is one of the most productive (-.-) asset to have in today’s work and personal life. Same goes indeed for picking the right book about a topic, the right items to buy in the kitchen, the right food to cook, the right restaurant to book, the right market stock to buy, etc etc. PS: I LOVE the expression “just right”. Often some things have to be just right for others to be excellent in our life. Not everything can be perfect. Perfection is a only a chimera. Our brain can be easily tricked in this regard, unfortunately.
