I absolutely love Grumman aircraft but this one is probably their most interesting early warbird design. I was able to get the XF5F a few years back and am excited to finally feature it in a video!

D.371 H.S.9, if you have it. ;-) With only 60 rounds across 2 guns and a 400 r/min fire rate, I'd bet you can have all sorts of fun. You'll go from fierce tiger to baby kitten in 4.5 seconds.

This is what happens if you punch a p38 hard enough in the nose
They had done a secret change to the flight model and in-game performance of this plane like a year or so ago, making it go from crap with performance stats being lies, to a plane that is more worthy of the br that it used to sit at.
Such a weird airframe... but effective, clearly. Little touchy, though: explodes the instant another plane touches it - severe anxiety issues?
Well, when you look like Grumman's janitor made a late-night change to the blueprints, you'd feel a bit verklempt too.
Really wish they'd add the *F5F-2* model in-game. Lengthened the nose and the engine nacelles; moved back the cockpit (so it looks more like the XP-50). Fixed a whole bunch of balance issues, while losing none of the performance that made it famous. Plus, changed the armament to 4x 50cals in nose--which works just dandy for a light gun combo.
This was the prototype basis for the eventual F7F Tigercat

No "long lost" about it. A direct decendent. If anything, the XP-50 was the improved model (better balance, better engines, turbocharging, better guns).
On this episode of Bo Time Gaming: TBLF's re-interpretation of The Muppet Show crashes on take-off literally, Stickboy rides the emotional support bomber and goes Swiss, and Hambone roams the skies after his death as a ghost.

I recently had a ground battle where I wasn't on their team for once. Hopefully I will be in one of the upcoming episodes, since it takes some time for them to be edited and uploaded.
I've always been meaning to test fly this plane but ended up forgetting about it!

The XF5F is a really neat plane idea. It's a shame it didn't really work out during WW2 but the carriers weren't up to the task of it
Carriers could handle it; it's actually very compact and compares well, size-wise vs a Wildcat or Dauntless. And with its 3000+ft./min climb, carrier takeoffs were easy. Range was good too vs Wildcats.
The deal-breaker was supply issues. Two engines require twice as many parts and twice as much maintenance time (and possible extra crew to get said maintenance done in the same time as a single engine).
@@dphalanx7465 The issue wasn't that. Parts were never an issue. It was issues with the speed and landing gear. I've done quite a bit of research into that twin engine naval program in the past. Could talk about it in some detail on the official BTG Discord if you'd like

Wildcat/Zero are low 330s mph; Sea Hurricane is low 340s. Most common listing for Skyrocket is *380mph.*???

You’re not wrong about the Tigercat comment. The XF5F was the earliest iteration of it imo. The XP-50 followed with a upgraded powerplant, armament, and more oriented for land operations. Then came the Tigercat, both Navalized and regular Tigercat, biggest powerplant and armament upgrade. However, there was a proposition for a true land-based variant called the Cheetah, with P-47/P-38 esque powerplants, but didn’t go through.

Fun fact about the Harry Potter franchise.
In the first movie when Harry said Voldemort's name for the first time, he actually pronounces it correctly "Vol-Duh-Mor(e)", the letter "T" is actually supposed to be silent. This was confirmed by JK Rowling herself on September 9, 2015.
