Absolutely blown away by the wisdom of the nuns. "Be present and focus on what you are doing at the moment". Thank you so much to bring Chan Buddhism nuns to us.
If China could spread Buddhism more in the world I think it would be really a great thing. It's a good way for many to live especially with climate change.
I started my path into being one with the 道 and I have been practicing 気候 in order to bring balance to my 陰陽 to achieve a true state of 無為, and practicing 座禅 has made me closer to my journey to become an arhat
I am Indian and my ancestral village is on the banks of the same river Niranjana (Phalgu in modern nomenclature) where Shri Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment.... I can find so many things of this temple resonate with my own culture and teachings.... 1. Meditation - it is definitely - THINKING NOTHING! it is the hardest thing to do.. It raises awareness about ourselves It is there in the Yoga and Atharvaveda.... The Aranyakas (forest dwelling monks) have also highlighted this.... The Bikkuni (Bhikshuni in Sanskrit) of this temple also underscores the same idea. 2. Contemplation - It is thinking about multiple points at same time. It is easier than meditation but has its own flavor in the Yoga... It raises ones awareness about environment around. When the monks and bikkunis walk with moving only right hand while keeping other hand kept still, they are exactly contemplating. It is best if contemplation is carried outdoors which is exactly what they are doing. 3. Well then there is concentration which is not mentioned here... it is about focusing on one point - one goal.... this is lowest level of Yogic exercise... attainment of which many find as fulfilling who are involved in physical charm of the world. What resonates with me is the idea of Zen, Chan or as we call it - OM..... They are different names of the same idea... that is to find your inner self.... believe me it is hardest thing to do.... i agree u dont have to be hermit to realize ur inner self..... but u can experience it by channeling energy in ur mind and body optimistically.....

Gyan yoga is origin of Zen meditation, practiced well among students of Nalanda University india till 12th century, the university was destroyed by turk invader Bakthiyar Khilji. Dhayana leads to Gyana ( Zen) , Gyana leads to perfection. Thus Chan Zen meditation is powerful. ☸️🙏🇮🇳🇨🇳🇯🇵
Right now in time, for myself and my growth, I am to be in silence. I accept my life here also because I love the people. Ultimately, we are not meant to be in silence alone and have blank minds. Our thought knows we are alive and something. Why that blank thought for those moments? Is something being erased, or are the people going higher to something that is not of this earth?

There is no more confusion than to believe one is enlightened. Once believing you are enlightened is to arrive at a destination, a delusion created by ones own mind.
well... Gautama Buddha was born in Kapilavastu, Lumbini... Yes this district today lies on the border of India and Nepal but back then there was one India in 6th century BC, divided into 16 Mahajanapads but bonded by same culture and belief in Dharma........ Buddha along with Mahavira Jain and Makkali Gosala were among founders of various religions ( 62 in total, apart from Vedic religion) where new thinking of Dharma developed. There was no Nepal then.....but Bharat existed even then from Afghanistan (Gandhar in Sanskrit and Pali texts) to Bihar (Magadh in texts) and from Kashmir to Godavari..... Yes we have borders now which are existing from last 60 or 70 years...... but that can never belittle the culture of India that exists in these lands even today - be it Nepal, Afghanistan or Bangladesh.... Those people who deny the culture of their very own land like Pakistan does... they perish in history as Pakistan is perishing..... I hope Nepal does not
@wrong notes exactly there was no nation states back then, it was same culture of India which even today is present through language, religion, philosophy and liking for similar sports and cinema... But u cannot deny that it was not India... All other small nations or regions which cudnt become part of India doesn't mean they don't follow Indian culture!
@wrong notes Indus Valley Civilization existed between 2500 BC to 1750 BC. Greek Civilization started between 1200 BC and 900 BC. Greeks never existed during the era of Indus Valley Civilization. Just don't make stuffs or imagine history. Indus Valley Civilization is named so because of the river valley it was found in by the excavators and archeologists.
@wrong notes and dude educate yourself in history. Khas people are known to be different branch of Aryans, entirely separate from Vedic Aryans who mainly inhabited in the Indo-gangetic plains. Whereas Khas people inhabited in the mountainous region of Himalayas. Also the arrival of Khas people is said to be at later to that of the Vedic Aryans
Bodhidharma was an Indian Buddhist Monk who founded Zen/Chan Buddhism in China. There is a lot of evidence of him now in China m.ruclips.net/video/ucmXm5WdFnw/видео.html. That is why people who practice yoga learn the poses first, then they move on to meditation for longer periods.

So interesting to see how, even in China, the way Buddhism is presented emphasises its productivity first - Steve Jobs is referred to, even before Buddha or Bodhidharma. Zen/Chan becomes firstly a way to improve and better hone one’s business acumen. If we truly are a ‘consumer culture’ then perhaps this isn’t surprising - but should Buddhism be commodified and adapted to conform with and respond to prevailing market trends, or should it be trying to transform and ultimately transcend them?
