One of my favorites, no crazy overbuilt stuff just simple functional stuff, super clean with some dope tricks here and there plus he shredded for real.
The LQ4 engine is pretty common in junkyards and can be had for pretty cheap, even more common is the LM7 which is the 5.3 variant. Just have to get a stroker crank, get some higher compression pistons, better heads, a more aggressive camshaft profile, intake manifold, headers, 3" exhaust and last but not least a decent tune. If you find good deals on everything I don't believe it is far-fetched to say the engine itself would not cost as much as you'd think. Just go find an iron block that is in good shape from a gm truck in a junk yard and you will have your starting point.
