I know it's just a TV show and the point is not to worry about the reality, but the way they sort of half-engage with it gets annoying. I could list a thousand things but the really big one is the no firefighting response for 12 hours. In New York city, there are about 30,000 structural fires per year, or over 70 per day. Which means even without a purge, even by simply stopping all fire services for 12 hours, you'd have 35-40 structural fires raging out of control. With a purge? With arson legal? There are people who get off on setting really big fires, it is their thing. A really big city deliberately and carefully set alight over a 12 hour period is DONE. Packed hospitals? No chance. The hospitals would be burning.
You’re absolutely right. Every city in the US would burn to the ground if there was a 12 hour period where civil disobedience isn’t just legal, it’s encouraged, and there are no emergency services
@talkaboutwacky You know what? One year there's a big fire. And the next year they would have to escalate, for a bigger thrill. Sooner or later, someone would take our an entire city on purpose.
Smart that someone said "Hold on, we said that, after 24 hours, everything goes back to normal. Well, let's see how much of a headache the Legal System has after the Purge..."
What happens is that days before the purge the banks take out all their money and put it on planes that keep them flying during the purge but they must leave a certain amount available during the purge that the government requires of them. And also the shopping centers or supermarkets They withdraw all their products and keep them flying on planes during the night of the purge
This actually was part of the plot. The first experiment had to be tampered with via neo Nazis and paid criminals, as the first test purge was primarily a massive block party.
