You should add a air fitting to the new battery panel and tie it to the onboard air tanks. You can air up the truck without needing the on board air compressors or pre-fill them so the compressor doesn't need to work at start up.
Or put a switch on the compressors and turn them on after you start the truck, that way you have the trucks charging system helping with the draw from the compressors.
@@kevinklein959 He did that didn't he? My thinking is that with them filled you are ready to drive. Since the truck runs rough at idle and parked long stretches it could spare a few extra cranking amps. Needed? No, just another backup idea. =)
One more idea I've had, since working in a semi shop with full airbrake/suspension systems, you could add a shop air fitting to the remote connections so you can manually fill the air tank from the outside, even with a little pancake compressor on an inverter you could get enough emergency air to lift the bags from the outside
I added a Schrader valve so can be filled up by any air pump or at a gas station in case the air pump was to fail use it all the time to air up the truck now when at home with a lock on chuck. works great!
No joke I've been seeing more mini trucks from the late 90s and 2000s rolln around this last month and I'm here for it. Even saw a Forbidden Fantasy truck club in AZ I haven't seen around since then.
Mike I want to personally stop and take the time to just say thank you brother. This brings back so so many oldschool memories it's actually making me pretty emotional to be honest but all good vibes from awesome memories but hey man here to many more! Thank you man
When I was in The Marines, our vehicles had ‘slave cables’. Jumper cable clams on 1 end, heavy duty plug on the other that plugs into the vehicle. I think the 17’s are WAY BETTER ! Good job !
Sweet ride Finn. Reminds me of my friend's and their 13B powered Mazda 2200, and another guy's Izusu Pup back around 1990. I got a tip for you and your viewers. Almost everyone installs amps in their vehicles these days. Use a larger cable size than you really need. Install a ground block and a power distribution block. And providing you haven't shave the door locks and handles, you can hook you battery charger or jumper cables directly to those blocks on your amp rack. Of course a 2 gauge Anderson plug, behind the grill so you can access it without opening the hood, does wonders too. Keep on trucking Bro, you got this.
Dremel with a little death wheel, or even a little metal saw wheel attachment is a must have tool for cutting plastics, you can sculpt in anything you want, use a lighter to clean the edges. I have mine on a flexible extension, which has been amazing for reaching difficult spots. I even threw a carbide bit in it and was able to clearance an engine block casting, with the engine in the car.
Top tip: You can usually charge a battery via the terminal on the back of the alternator. This is how I do it on my 68 Elco where the battery has been relocated to under the bed.

Pop the hood find a good ground then hook to the positive cable on the battery side of the starter relay. That will feed power to the battery through a cable that should be large enough to handle it and you should be able to to air the truck up and possibly start it. I’m not super familiar with Toyotas so I’m not sure how accessible that wire is but we use that method on a lot of stuff that you can’t get to the battery very easily.
Wait a second, your getting a SEMA truck ready to go with a realistic deadline? Not down to the wire, we gonna lose the shop if we don't finish. SEMA isn't for a few months yet isn't it?
Mike is going to be so surprised when he discovers there is a Bridgeport behind him and all the things he can use it for, like cutting slots in plastic trim.

They didn't provide us with tools wither so we would take them off the store shelves, then try to put them back in the packaging and back on display when we were finished. Pro tip.
I would suggest evening out your bumper box installation by putting in an extra air chuck connector for your air bag compressor, on the opposite side of the bed from the battery terminals. It would give you the option of having remote air for pumping tires, OR to externally pump up your reserve tank when your battery dies, so that you can move the car around when you don't want to (or can't) start the engine.

You could have ran a wire from the battery cable at the starter up to a bracket with those same remote posts and kept it all under the hood. Ground jumper to the engine block. Just a thought. Love the truck though. Keep minitruckin' alive!
The easiest way to cut switches into plastic is to trim down a razor blade to fit in a soldering iron. Or hold a blade with vice grips and heat with a touch and cut through.
In the future a second battery under the hood with a $100 charge regulator would be the cats ass. I had similar in my truck with a camper and it would isolated the starting battery and allow the alternator charge it and when full would switch to the second battery and charge it. Bad ass mini truck!
My brother had a taco same body type. Light yellow color I had a T100 I miss that truck. This video brought me back just hearing that door 🚨 Rims look awesome!
Man I remember back in the 90s these things were everywhere and half the show at NOPI nats would be these trucks. Just about every car club had at least one or more of these things. Airbags didn't really take off till the early 2000s and everyone just slammed them on blocks, coilovers, or just cut the springs. It was not a fun time to be a police officer. From the Southlake Mall - AMC theatre strip all the way down to Atlanta Motor Speedway was nothing but mini trucks, mustangs, and hondas in various stages of dilapidation and bondo. Every intersection had burnout marks and someone was making 9 grand pulls with 150hp everywhere you went. The sounds of cheap high airflow intakes and even cheaper straight pipe exhausts filled the night air on the weekends.
You have some kickass builds. I have always loved seeing you build your trucks. You and David inspired me to get into modifying cars and got me into classic cars. There hasn’t been a time where I would say no to watching you. This truck in particular is a kick ass build. I love the paint and the style of the entire truck. I have a 93 s10 which is basically the same thing just by different manufacturers. With my father’s permission. Because it’s his truck. I want to put air suspension on it so we can lower it and raise it on the fly. We have already lowers it a bit. And we have springs to put on the front to lower it a bit more but we don’t have the shocks yet. We have 5 vehicles but three of them need stuff. My mothers suv needs a transmission because the radiator cracked and it’s connected to the transmission. My sisters car needs an oil change, tires, and probably something with the transmission. My dads truck needs to be re registered and some other things. So modifying it is the lowest thing on the list😅 anyways sorry for going on a tangent. Keep up the amazing videos!
Two mods you need. 1. Outside fitting to lift the truck. Super easy mod, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't. 2. When you park it, you should have 4 mini-stands that you can throw under the car so it doesn't rest on the stops, which in air systems is never good. For your welding skills, this is a weekend project.
This is so much better than watching you open mail!😁😁
100%

Agreed. I went away for a while because of that. I'm back now

In the future a second battery under the hood with a $100 charge regulator would be the cats ass. I had similar in my truck with a camper and it would isolated the starting battery and allow the alternator charge it and when full would switch to the second battery and charge it. Bad ass mini truck!
Those new "old school" wheels look great... Now you'll fix your stuff, make her happy and running well...
I had 16" wheels on my 77 built side Datsun.... those wheels are perfect
My brother had a taco same body type. Light yellow color I had a T100 I miss that truck. This video brought me back just hearing that door 🚨
Rims look awesome!
I love the 90's too! When I did the interior on my C10 I had the shop order up gray tweed which the shop owner said he hadn't done in many years haha
Hell yeah I love the mini truck life I have been definitely waiting for you to work on this truck late 80s early 90s were the best
Should have added an air line quick disconnect to that battery post box! Nice work though looks great!
I love this mini truck! Your not the only one who details a vehicle then next thing you know here comes the rain.
That battery install was very easy, barely an inconvenience. 😁😜😇
Nice job, looks great... love the bit of fabrication and rewiring.
The BAD wheels look great. You need to bring this to Mini Truckin Nats in April. 30th Anniversary.
Looks so much better, probably because I've been into mini trucks since that era
