    There is a reason the insurance companies give you a 30 day review period. That is the length of time it will take to read the contract. The dealer will give you 5-10 minutes to decide. Most of the contract describes what is excluded and the process for filing a claim - often impossible in an emergency or weekend. Be sure and shop around.

      Hi Steve. That's why I recommend that you have a source for extended RV contracts lined up before you go shopping. A lot of RVers like and use Wholesale Warranties. They shop for the best deal for you from several insurance providers. And they don't try to hide the cost of their product in monthly payments like RV dealers often do.

    I have insurance because the Law requires it! I do not have any extended warranties. That is what an emergency fund is for. Financial experts call them a waste of money. A properly maintained RV isn't likely to have a catastrophic issue. As the expression goes, "A fool and his money are soon parted."

    Warranties rarely get used before it’s contract is up . That’s the hard part for buying one. But that peace of mind is what we buy it for.
    Although I’ve gone for warranty work and been turned away due to work backlogs, or supply backlogs. Even the Mobile Mechanics are hard pressed , at missing out on his $150/ hr. He suggested I call a Handyman in the area for $50/ hr. Then told me how I could do the job myself “ it’s not rocket science” he said - I’m thinking my leak in my ceiling is a crack in the adhesive-

      That's really the point of almost any kind of insurance, including service contracts for RVs. It's the peace of mind they can bring that we are protected against the huge expenses that could seriously harm us financially. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the video. I have a 2020 travel trailer and purchased an extended tire and wheel warranty. At only two years old, the tires, although they have excellent tread, have large cracks in the sidewalls making it dangerous to travel on the highway. It is obvious the castle rock tires are defective. I was told the warranty doesn't apply unless you are experiencing problems on the road.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  2 года назад +2

      Hi Steven. RV tires are a challenge for an extended warranty company. They are not really a function or fail item in that they exhibit wear and tear as they age. And at some point you have to make a decision about replacement even though they may still be technically functioning correctly at the time. Tire and wheel warranty companies usually require the tire to fail altogether before they replace it though. But personally, if your RV tires are showing extensive cracking on the sidewalls, if they were mine, I would replace them soon.

    We just purchased a 2033 Class B van and we ended up buying a Good sam extended warranty from the national company as opposed to the local Camping World Good Sam as it was half the cost with no long-term contract. I'm beginning to have some regrets as I read many horror stories of folks getting claims denied on covered items. I know it covers electrical or mechanical only and I bought it as the coach has extensive advanced electronics. I can pretty much fix anything else myself.

      I understand your concern Phil. Time will tell how the extended warranty works out for you, but I know many RVers who are glad that they had it. Especially when high tech advanced electronic equipment is involved. Also, many of the poor reviews of extended warranty companies online are from those who bought a warranty and did not carefully read the contract beforehand or research the subject well before buying. But lets hope that your experience is a good one.

      Hi AJ. I can't say whether you should buy an extended warranty for your fifth wheel or not. That is a personal decision. But as I understand it, if you decide to buy an extended warranty when the RV is new, it will kick in as soon as the factory warranty expires. And the cost of the extended warranty is cheaper when you buy it that way. BTW, thanks for supporting my channel so well. I really appreciate it!

    We just bought a 2023 new East to West Alta travel trailer. Would you recommend an extended warranty on something like that? It does have 2 A/C units and one slide.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Год назад

      Hi Julie. I think service contracts are best for insuring items that are very expensive to repair or replace. And if your rig is new, the factory warranty will cover it for about a year in most cases too. But I feel that motorhomes best lend themselves to an extended warranty because you not only have the RV house to cover but also the engine and drivetrain. A travel trailer is a relatively low cost RV to upkeep though. So unless it has high dollar amenities that could cost a lot to repair, I personally would not probably get a service contract for it. But everyone has to make that call for themselves and their personal situation.

    Duane thanks for the video. My main concern is will a repair dealer accept the extended service plan or not, and if they do accept the warranty will they repair as soon as they can or will they make an appointment a few months from the date that you need a repair. I will give an example on my on RV. I bought a brand new 22 Entegra Vision class A motorhome from NIRVC in N. Las Vegas (great place) on August 31, 2021. We live in Northern California and taking it back to them for warranty work is expensive due to gasoline prices. I took it to them twice and they did the repairs quickly, probably because I bought it from them. Now I have a minor warranty work item, a kitchen drawer that slides out every time I make a left turn. I called Johnson RV in Gilroy CA which is a Jayco dealer and they are the closest warranty dealer from us. I spoke with a lady in their service dept. in April 2022 and she told me if it's a warranty claim they are taking appointments for December 2022, but if I was going to pay for the repair out of pocket, I could get an appointment within 2 weeks of my call to them. I called Jayco to complain and they said they have no control on the dealers that do their warranty work. I assume the reason is that the manufacturer does not pay the going price for the repairs when it's a warranty claim, versus paying out of pocket. What do you think?

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  2 года назад +2

      Those are all valid concerns. This is what Wholesale Warranties says about where you can get your RV repaired under the extended warranty - "With one of our RV Warranty policies, you’ll be able to take your RV to any licensed repair facility in the United States. A licensed repair facility simply refers to a facility that is in business to work on recreational vehicles, and has a legitimate business tax ID number." So an extended warranty is nothing like a factory warranty from the manufacturer. With an extended warranty, you can get the repair handled almost anywhere. I can also attest to that. I have had repair work done under my extended warranty by different RV repair facilities across the US. In fact, even some mobile RV techs are able to handle extended warranty work. So if your RV needs repair, you usually have a lot more places to choose from for service than if you are trying to get it fixed under the warranty. And I have had no problem getting the RV worked on in a reasonable time frame either. Unfortunately, some dealers are not nearly as concerned with customers after the sale as they are beforehand when they want your money. So if you need warranty work done under the factory warranty, they put you at the back of the line. That way they can focus on the repair work that will make them the most money in their service department. It seems that they forget how much profit they made on the sale of your RV pretty quickly. And the problem gets even worse when you are trying to get something fixed under warranty at a dealer that did not sell you the RV. This is why I always recommend getting an RV inspection on new RVs before you take delivery so you don't get stuck in this "back of the line" situation when you need things fixed after you have found them on your first camping trip.

      @@agm6095 I would take the same viewpoint myself. I think that the high-handed way that some RV dealers have been dealing with customers in the last couple years of the RV boom, will eventually come back to bite them pretty hard when sales become much tougher due to their poor reputation in more lean times. In general, what goes around often comes around. 😉

      @@RVInspectionAndCare Here in FL, it is not at all unusual that a dealer who you didn't purchase the RV from, will decline to work on the RV. It doesn't matter if it is warranty work or out of pocket, they just decline to provide service. This video is sponsored by Wholesale Warranty! This gentlemen gets a piece of the action for every policy sold. To quote Dave Ramsey an emergency fund is better than an extended warranty. A friend bought an extended warranty from the dealership when they purchased their new RV. They bought it out of state and after returning back home, they have had difficulty finding dealers willing to take the discounted warranty work! Their RV is in the shop longer if they even get an appointment. Take your factory warranty stay away from extended warranties.

      Everybody has an opinion that they are entitled to Dianna. And you are entitled to yours. And in many situations, I actually agree that extended warranties may not be necessary. But when you have a rolling home going down the highway experiencing earthquake forces as it goes, I think you should at least give an extended warranty a fair look. I would not recommend it for inexpensive travel trailers. But if you are a fulltime RVer, and especially if you have an expensive rig that may have a diesel engine in it like mine, it should be something you consider. Or if you have an older motorhome that is getting to the age where there could be a need for expensive replacement parts, it should at least be an option on the table. I personally have benefited greatly from having an extended warranty and I know a lot of RVers who have had the same experience as I have. But even if I had not used it at all, it gives me peace of mind knowing that if my Caterpillar diesel engine has a major breakdown, I will not be stuck with the 25K-30K that it would take to fix it. Of course, if you put aside that kind of money in a banking account for just such a reason, then you don't need warranty insurance. But you can't use that money for anything else while the danger of breakdown still exists. By the way, this video is NOT sponsored by Wholesale Warranties although I will get paid some commission if someone buys a warranty using my affiliate link. But my regular subscribers know that I do not recommend anything that I do not believe in wholeheartedly. You are apparently not aware of that. If you find my videos irritating and grating, I invite you to avoid my channel from now on.

    • @diannafox7589
      @diannafox7589 2 года назад

      @@RVInspectionAndCare I wonder if you believe in it wholeheartedly because you get your warranty for free. You said you had a 2004 Newmar and have the extended warranty through Wholesale Warranty. When I called them they said for a motorhome that old they only cover the powertrain. Do you get the warranty for free or do you pay for it? In the end, extended warranties are expected to pay for all of these expenses and still make a profit. In the car industry, the service contract is expected to cost six times the average of that specific car’s repair costs. We realize that the numbers will not translate perfectly into the RV industry. RV’s are far less durable than robotically manufactured cars. Even with that being the case, the logic will remain consistent. For their business model to work, on average, the company must make a profit. That means you, on average, must pay more than you would have.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare

      @@diannafox7589 I can see that you ae a very skeptical person. If you choose to always believe that someone is trying to take advantage of you, that is your right to live your life like that. But I am not doing that in this video or in any other video or podcast or article that I produce. As far as my warranty, I did not say that it came from Wholesale Warranties. I bought the warranty when I bought the RV through an RV dealer. I do recommend Wholesale Warranties though because I know many people who have bought a warranty through them and are very happy. They don't just sell their own warranty either. They are a warranty broker which means that they can match the RV owner with the right warranty plan, and I like that. They also get very highly positive reviews online. The logic you use about warranty costs is the same that has been used for years to argue against almost any form of insurance whether it be home, auto, health, property, or whatever else. The argument is that the insurance company must be making money on you if you pay premiums, so you are wasting money. But I happily pay my insurance premiums because it gives me peace of mind against the possibility of suffering a major financial expense due to something unexpected that may happen. I also consider that my premiums are a way to leverage my risk exposure. In other words, I happily accept a small loss in the form of my premium payments to avoid the big loss of a major financial expense. My point is that extended warranties are actually a form of insurance as I said in the video. And any price paid for the warranty should be viewed as your premium to avoid major financial losses associated with your RV. Either you choose to get the warranty or not. It's up to you. But I am going to try to make this as crystal clear as I can to you that I am not being paid in any way by Wholesale Warranties to make this video. And I would appreciate it if you would stop making baseless claims like that.
