- "The Next Time" backed with "Bachelor Boy" was the first of three number one hit singles from the Cliff Richard musical, Summer Holiday (written by Bruce Welch and Cliff Richard). The song was succeeded at number one by The Shadows' "Dance On!".
The recording of the song took place at Abbey Road Studios in London on 10 May 1962. It was produced by Norrie Paramor and engineered by Malcolm Addey. The single spent three weeks at No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in January 1963
Hank Marvin made an instrumental version for his 1995 album “Hank plays Cliff”
Mine is based on Hanks version using my Alan Brason custom Stratocaster with Kinman FV-HMS pickups into Alesis Quadraverb Q2 with Echoes from the past patch 0-36 and recorded in Cubase.
The Backing track came from Roger Paulsson’s Vol 8 available here :-

The Fender Stratocaster is such a Wonderful Instrument. To span the years so perfectly, so that a young person can play it or someone, somewhat more mature.

That is an excellent cover of this beautiful melody so close to Hanks version.
Superb sound as usual and great backing from Roger Paulsson.
Was on April 2005 when we made as Shazam the second CD including "The next time" as Hanks style, long time ago since then, and I uploaded this tune in YT on October 2009.

+algaronjp Hi JP always good to hear from you. I re-visited your 2 great version and you did a superb job I can see you really like this tune. I do prefer the RP backing that you used on your first version and I did on this one. Ian's is OK but Rogers has a more realistic French accordion sound which is closer to Hanks version.

You're absolutely right with your observation regarding the BT's. The reason I've chosen Ian's because there's some piano sound here and there that I thought it would make a difference. But, unfortunately, judging by the overall R. Paulsson' BT has a upper hand - smooth and more mellow. Have a great weekend, Phil - JP.
+algaronjp Hi JP - I thought the same thing- the piano on Ian's is very good - the mix and up front bass on Rogers with that French sound did it for me. I think we have similar tastes and we agree on everything regarding BT's now and in the past.

Much like "Don't Give Up On Us", you kept this one simple and to the point. (which leads me to believe that something BIG is coming soon-LOL). Some of the "Hank Plays Cliff" stuff I've felt missed the mark, (IMO) but this one got it right. Enjoyed this, my friend.
