He cusses and rambles so cool in Elysium...South Africans when they go off can be intimidating and aggravating at the same time.....love it. he was great.
Best actor in the world... The way he played Kruger was honestly top notch and it stayed with me for a long time... Also, I loved Kruger's accent... It is my new favourite english accent. Totally badass.
*I love this actor and his accent. He's so fokken awesome! He is from south africa so I think it's south african accent!* He was the best in Distirct 9 and specialy when he said: "Hello little guy, it's the sweety man coming!"
SO weird, he's so nerdy and almost ugly in District 9, and then he shows up in other movies and ESPECIALLY as Kruger...and recently in Maleficent. He's downright sexy, real manly man! Loving his accent as well...*wheeze* I forgot to breathe for a sec there.
his accent is unique. it sounds like english or welsh or some shit. i know he was born in south africa but maybe i just hear it different cause even in elysium his accent sounds fuckin mean
Mike P Sharlto is an English first language speaking South African from the North of Johannesburg. His accent in District 9 is Afrikaans. His accent in Elysium is an English Johannesburg Southern Suburbs accent. His accent in Chappie is a South African Coloured accent and his accent in Free Fire is an old school English Johannesburg Bagel accent. And Daniel, the reason why he sings Jan Pierewiet in Afrikaans is because his character is based on a Special Forces Reconnaissance Soldier (Recce) in the 70's and 80s, therefore the character would have been a child in the late 50s or 60s, and even if a Child was English during that time (an Afrikaans nation), they would have known Afrikaans Nursery Rhymes. I also sang Jan Pierewiet, as a child, even though I am English first language speaking, although to be fair my heritage is Afrikaans and Finnish.
Lol. I love Sharlto. Any movie hes in ya know its gonna be good. I've always thought he'd be awesome as Tomax & Xamot, the twins that work for Cobra in the G.i. joe cartoons.
he definitely pull it off cuz I couldn't stand him in that movie acting was good but the bad guy that you played just made me so irritated like the accent him trying to act to tough I wasn't feeling it
Stereotype 1: A Recce, a member of the 32 Battalion! Which is an infamous South African Special Forces Reconnaissance Soldier during Apartheid. These guys were the stuff of legends, they were the best of the best, and were seen as heroes, but also as deeply disturbed violent and extremely dangerous people with many a horror story attached to their exploits. They were known as "The terrible ones." Stereotype 2: Johannesburg Southern Suburb male! These boys, during the 70's and 80's, were known as guys that were rough, tough and always ready for a fight; and did everything they could do to get into a fight. They were well known for their verbal jousting skills as well; usually foul mouthed, lots of slang, with a sharp witted tongue. So they used their mouths to psyche you out, and then their fists to finish you off. These guys were also very arrogant and narcissistic; and so for the Central, Northern and Western Johannesburg boys (I am from the West), they were often the butt of many a joke. Part of the joking involved mimicking their very strange accent as is seen in Elysium. Sharlto merged these 2 old South African stereotypes into one character.
i don't like his acting-- he's so weird and goofy. How come I can understand his interview perfectly well but in the movies I understand like 1/3 of his dialogue. Is he putting the South African accent on extra thick for the movies?
Sharlto was the best part of the movie.
such a down to earth guy, I really wish he was in more movies so I could watch more of his work

riner9 lol boy u crazy
Why is he not in more stuff? He is such a good actor
S&M Gaming That is why hollywood sucks. Popular actors become more popular, and other will always be underrated.
Its mostly because of his accent. Big budget Hollywood movies don't do this unless they have a specific typecast
Because his accent is cringe-worthy
he is talented but he can't make other accents (I'm having flashbacks of Sean Connery)
He had a hot momentum back then, he worked on blockbuster movies back to back like District 9, A-Team and Elysium. but now people barely remember him
"It's the sweety man" always cracks me up.
One of the most talented underrated actors.
His accent is awesome lol ! I love South African accents, it's a close second to my favorite accent ( which is Australian ) !
Leo is rhodesian in blood diamond.
***** Can't come back from that.
That's funny because i'm a South African, living in Australia
I vote for this guy to be the Joker in the next Batman movie
I agree!
I'd rather see him as Alfred Penyworth
Sharlto put on a lot of muscle for this roll
...It's the sweetie-man coming!
Best actor in the world... The way he played Kruger was honestly top notch and it stayed with me for a long time... Also, I loved Kruger's accent... It is my new favourite english accent. Totally badass.

He has such a unique accent
if you want to get more rolls and you have a thick heavy accent like that need to be like Idris Elba and learn how to do an American accent to
3 years? 3 fooking years mahn?!
his accent is unique. it sounds like english or welsh or some shit. i know he was born in south africa but maybe i just hear it different cause even in elysium his accent sounds fuckin mean
+hyper drive It's an Afrikaan's accent, he just lays it on real thick in Elysium. They throw a lot of South African slang as well
And he does sing 'Jan Pierewiet' in Afrikaans

An excellent movie… Thoroughly enjoyable…
It's become a bit of a cult classic!
