The viola soloist was phenomenal, but what is going on with the orchestra? In many spots the soloist wanted more and tried to give cues and push but the orchestra/conductor didn't respond, such as the stringendo in the 1st mvt. I'm so glad she won the first prize as she deserved it, despite all these other factors. Come on, a better orchestra and conductor is needed for such a competition like Primrose.
Funnily enough, the principal clarinet in this video is the retired principal of the LA Philharmonic, so most of, if not all the musicians themselves are probably top notch
