It feels like a mild form of valium or vicodin. I had crazy anxiety a few days ago, and started taking VR yesterday. My general anxiety has gone down about 70%. I'd say it works.
@@robertp9370I heard him say in the video not to take it during the day because of the drowsiness that can occur. I only take it @ night before bedtime.
@@Jfresh55 Took melatonin for 3 straight days and a total of 4 hours of sleep. Took valerian root for 3 days and only got a total of 5 hours of sleep. Then on the next 3 days I combined the two.... On the third day alone I got 4 hours of sleep.
I find it is very good (another side benefit) in easing the pain of neuropathy. It reduces my pain levels for which I have been taking daily large dose opiates (oxycodone 60mg daily) for many years by 95% +. I discovered this by first taking VR for insomnia. I am currently completely off opiates and am relying 100% on VR for pain relief. Yay! I am also sleeping better. Interesting dreams though. Who knew?
Same here, I've taken it due to trouble with sleep lately (400MG, only tried it two or three times) and it works a charm - but it gives me crazy dreams, so I avoid taking it too much (it's fun but I don't feel vivid dreams all the time can be good as brain doesn't get rest). My sister has fibro, I'm interested to see if it helps her with pain.
Good job doc, i take it for sleep works great , I have to take a break after about a week on doesn’t seem to work as well but after a few days I’ll continue.
I've taken Valerian a little bit recently as sleeping of late has been difficult. I take the Blackmore's brand, in pill form, which is 400mg for one pill (it actually says Valerian extract conc. strand 400mg, equiv. to dry root and rhizome 2000mg) Effects for me were (in case if people are doing their own research, and want someone's else's experience): -Very, very vivid dreams (quite elated/happy dreams) Kinda fun - I am a lucid dreamer a lot naturally anyway due to being a light sleeper - but this made them very complex and interesting. I suspect lucid dreaming all the time probably isn't a good thing though. - I didn't feel it ever made me drowsy (before sleeping) but I noticed if I laid down to sleep even if I didn't quite feel like it, I would fall asleep easily (which falling to sleep lately has been impossible). - It DID make me quite drowsy and tired the next day, for the entire day. - I feel dizzy and out of it for probably a few hours after waking up from having it. - My sleep felt VERY restful and I felt great waking up (until I sat up and felt dizzy). The issue is my sleep was so nice I wanted to keep sleeping (I usually jump out of bed pretty quick) and slept in a lot. - It could be coincidence but I felt a happier/elated mood the following day (in spite of the above dizziness and drowsiness). * * * I'm pretty sensitive to taking stuff, and the above I feel shows my dose is too high. I'll try halving the pill. Generally speaking I feel like I'll avoid taking this too often, I feel like the research isn't super extensive (from what I've found), in addition to the fact I am too groggy/dizzy the next day, and feel (don't know for sure) having vivid REM sleep every night can't be good. Either way, it's handy, but wouldn't take it the evening before an important meeting or something. Maybe a half dose will even it out.
I dunno....I see a lot of plot holes in your comments. It seems more like you had very very light sleep here which is why you're tired for the entire day right after. I have the same issue with I take melatonin. Very light sleep with vivid dreams that makes me tired the next day
I’ve wondered the same thing. I’ve taken Atavan and Ambien in the past and while valerian isn’t nearly as strong as either, it definitely helps with similar effects. Both of my prescriptions were short term and came with some heavy side effects (Atavan; loss of coordination, drowsiness, not being able to perform basic functions. Ambien; memory loss, sleep walking, drowsiness the day after.) valerian helps me sleep so great and soothes my anxiety even if I have a stressful day tomorrow without noticeable side effects. It also contains passionflower and lemon balm which are all pretty well documented anxiolytics.
That’s how it always tends to go with supplements vs medication/pills. The drug industry is huge, and with the way things are set up it’s hard to even get proper studies approved or acknowledged for supplements. It’s really unfortunate. There’s probably a ton of substances that have potential that go un noticed
People who make these kind of comments always just have me shaking my head. It’s not about if it’s better for you so you get a higher level recommendation or popularity my God it’s about what trades higher on the stock market for black rock and Vanguard who own everything in the worldmelatonin higher so that’s what gets recommended
Unfortunately it doesn't help during opiate withdrawal. Kratom and Kava work for that. I got off 15 year Suboxone addiction with them. I did try Valerian 1000 mgs, went through the whole bottle. If your not in withdrawal it might help a little bit, just enough to gently ease you.
Hi 👋🏾 I am really interested in moving to medicinal herb alternatives but I have heard that there are risk factors with taking herbs. Some even having a risk of death if taken incorrectly or mixed with other drugs. Should we detox first before starting natural herbs to be on the safe side?
This study shows valerian improves sleep … A study published in the journal Phytomedicine found that valerian used at least one hour before bedtime led to better sleep initiation and maintenance for children with ADHD, cognitive impairments, and/or other neurodevelopmental issues. They used tablets containing only crushed valerian root, at doses of 20mg per kilogram of body weight. All of the children in the study had documented long-standing difficulties with falling asleep and/or staying asleep at night. Parents rated their children’s sleep issues as severe and reported that the issues with sleep were causing significant difficulties. During the study, parents completed a series of questions, rating scales and documented sleep patterns based on frequent sleep checks.
I had it for the first time last night, usually sleep 4-5 hrs a night , had 7 hrs of sleep and woke up fresh and feeling good

I just purchased some raw Valerian root and brew it with tea before bed, I've been doing it for about a week and I feel more rested in the mornings
I use both Valerian Root and magnesium citrate before bed it helps. 300 mg of magnesium citrate and 500 mg of Valerian Root.

Does Valerian have withdrawal symptoms when taken long term?.
There s no long terme experiments on VR, people usually take it for 6 weeks then see how it goes after that

So I would expect the adult dose to be 40mg/a per kg of body weight. So for me at 60kg would be 2400mg in divided doses?
@@flicchick10 No The dose is between 500 to 1200 taken 2 to 3 times daily
