The hick from French lick will always be the greatest Small Forward for me.
He had all the fundamentals in the bag. Duncan was looked at as Mr. Fundamental, but that’s a nickname more suited for Bird in my opinion.

    • @jimmybrooks2000
      @jimmybrooks2000 5 месяцев назад

I'd say it's more fitting for Timmy because he never broke away from the fundamentals. Bird would put on a show if he didn't feel challenged enough. He was incredibly fundamentally sound though.

Larry Bird was the first player we’ve ever seen that had everything that we love about basketball. Before Larry Legend, there were plenty of players that were unique for one or two specific skill(s). Scoring, Steals, Rebounding, Dynamic Foot Work, Handles, Blocks, etc.
Sure, there were lots of GREATS before Larry Bird and many after - but in my humblest of opinions, #33 was pretty much the first guy that was this devastatingly versatile ANYWHERE on the court until Michael Jordan.

Larry Bird was greater than Jokic, Curry, Durant, Kawhi, and * *Klutches pearls* * Lebron James. Magic and Mama's driveway were the only things stopping him from top 3~5 all-time career.

Scary thing was Larry in the year before he joined Celtics injured his shooting hand and said that after the injury his feel of the ball never fully recovered. So his entire NBA career it can be argued he was not at full strength and yet I cant help but think he might have potentially been even greater than MJ had he never gotten injured. I acknowledge that MJ is the goat, but Larry Legend will always be my favorite player of all time for that sheer tenacity and basketball IQ

Ya know, I watch a lot of these Larry Bird videos as he's arguably my all time fav non-Knicks player, and I especially watch vids like this,,i.e. reaction videos.
And I cannot fathom how many of these people that react to THIS spot DON'T instantly see his FRIGGIN HEAD BANG off the hardwood!
Sure, they acknowledge the hustle and stuff, but as far as the reaction vids that I WATCH, I'd say way less than half the time they'll realize just what a hard shot that was----- and even worse, they don't understand the weight of his returning to the game after that as a result!

I went for a steal, hard loke that, hit that brick wall at like 85% of "full blast," had a 2 hump lump behind my left ear and sprained my left thumb (I'm a lefty) for the 1st and only time cuz I instinctively tried to brace myself, and I bent a dang THUMB thaaaaaat far back to need a soft cast for 7-10 days via that sprain...

I think he broke his orbital bone after his face smacked the floor in a game. He he had to go to the locker room to get it checked out to see it nasty. Then the other team started to come back late. Larry said hold my beer, put on his warm-up jacket and jogged back onto the court with a broken orbital Bone and won the game. I don't think it was even a playoff game. And yet he still gave that kind of effort. You can say MJ's the goat and I won't challenge it. You can say Larry Byrd is the goat and I won't challenge it. But if you think any player today is better than Larry Bird was in his prime, probably a "fake king" fan. My all-time basketball list is very fluid but I know my starting five are Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Tim Duncan.

The one really important thing that was only briefly touched on in this video was Birds insane trash talk, psychological mind games and telling his opponents exactly what he was going to do, how he was going to do it, and then execute time and time again.

All this and he didn't even talk about Bird playing through excruciating back pain in the Olympics as someone who has had just a thrown out back at times and knowing how immobile you are so the fact that he was out there and not just playing but playing at a top level nothing but respect for him and the gaul of JJ Ledicklick to say "I think Larry Bird is super overrated"

This is like sittin' on the couch with a buddy and watching basketball videos. Clayton already has five or so clicks from me, but we're also discussing it through ;-) And today you even have my special dish (Larry is in my top1) on the BBQ.
My favorite Larry Bird story: He didn't see color. You either could play, or you couldn't.
Larry had a big six in '86, but before that he was the guy who made a 23(I'm guessing here) to a 60 win team.
And I have to disagree on that one tiny thing: MJ didn't match Larry's clutch skills, he came close, but nobody ever did. Larry just did it too often to be remembered as special.
The goat SF to this day. At least.

A phenomenal player can play every game for years, at an elite level, and still never get one.

When I think of the Bad Boys I think of Bill Laimbeer. Dirtiest player I've ever seen, and apparently he's the only player Bird won't talk to, even to this day. And Bird is cool with everyone since he retired.

Starting 5 that beats all others. Hakeem at 5 Duncan at 4 Bird at 3 Jordan at 2 and Payton at 1. That level of defense gets rid of the they can't shoot 3's bs. Curry wouldn't get a good shot off on GP in their primes. Fight me, that's mine

If you want to get really unfair you do hakeem, Duncan and bird 5-3 then kobe and Jordan trading off at 1 and 2.

I'm not a fan of this looking up to someone who 'looks like me'. The first problem is, that it is sort of a collectivistic stance. Secondly, just because someone has a similar melanin density, doesn't really mean they must be the player that one associates with. Michael Jordan looks nothing like me, and I looked up to him. Tracy McGrady doesn't look anything like me, but I looked up to him. Secondly, what does it even mean to look like you? Larry Bird might be close in hue to me, but I'm not blond or blue eyed, not to mention he is a few inches taller than me. So, does he really look like me? I'm left-handed, so should I be looking up to other left-handers? I'm of Czech/Bulgarian origin, so should I be looking up to players who are of Czech/Bulgarian origin (Jan Havlicek being of Czech descent comes to mind)? It all gets convoluted and, in the end, it's a racially collectivistic outlook, and I am an individualist and judge people based on their individual characteristics. I like Larry Bird because he was an incredible basketball player and not because he was White.

I'm Sorry But Your 4 Ahead Of Bird, None Of Then Were Great Ay Everything Like Bird Was, Bird Is Still To This Day The Best All Around Player. Also NO One & Even To This Day Had An Higher IQ On The Floor , It's Not Even Close. And When You Bring Up Stef OR LeFlop, Thats Just Dumb. Really How Good Do You Think Those Two Would Have Been OR Lasted Playing In The 80's. In The 80's They Never Would Hardly Get By Defenders The Way They Do Now Running To The Rim. It's Like Each Of Team Take Turn's Running To The Rim And NO One Can Touch Or Stop Them. And The Ridiculous Spacing And Everyone Hitting A 3-Point. So In Other Words They Are Playing A 3-Point & Dunking Contest, And Everyone Gets A Turn & NO One On The Other Team Can't Try To Stop Them. And No Has To Use IQ-Mind & Try To Out Wit Anyone. I'll Be So Glad When The NBA Ends Because They Don't Have To Play Hard Grit BB Anymore. And Really Bird Had A Long Decent Career. Players Back Then Usually Only Had A 10 To 14 Year Career On Average. Players Back Then Played In More Games Then The Softy Ones Today. And They Played A Lot More Minutes In A Game Then They Do Today. I Don't How Anyone Can Stand To Watch These Games Into Today Standards It's BORING As H*ll. I Do Love When Young People Watch Full Games Of Yester Year & Then They See What A Puzzy Way The Game Has Become.

According to that logic then Lebron shouldn't be top 10 either since he has and still is surrounded by hall of famers.
