Believe it not most Ps fans actually want as many people to experience these great games tbh we try and tell ppl about them and they take it like it’s a console war or something as the consumer it’s dumb to lock yourself out of truly great experiences because of brand loyalty. Ima gamer I’ll own whatever I need to play what I want
yes, finnaly someone who doesn't care about exclusives being ported to other platforms, i hate console wars, why can't everyone just play games instead of fighting over which one is better
Bought 3 copies of the PC version for myself and two friends. After beating the game on the Vita I got earlier this year, I finally experienced what everyone was talking about with this game. It's truly one of the best games I've ever played, and it deserves to be on all core modern platforms. Hopefully the same will be done for the rest of the series.
Let me add that this game is based on the theories of Swiss psychiatrist C. G. Jung (1875 - 1961) who founded the field of analytical psychology; Shadows, Personas, Complex, Extraversion/Introversion, etc., are all terms created and described by Jung. In the main menus' "TV Listings" you find lessons about Jungian psychology.
I knew that this game was rooted deeply in Jungian psychology. I could tell that right as the story started to unravel. I did not know that the TV listing section had these explainations. I will check that out!
And of all the three neo-persona games (which imo borrow more heavily from Jung than any other Atlus title, including the first Persona games), I think 4 is the one that best deals with the Jungian themes. Having "lessons" for this in Golden is just the cherry on top
I also believe that P5R is the best JRPG ever made and I can speak for Matty as well as other P4g fans, that if you enjoyed the story in P5r you will absolutely fall in love with the cast in P4g. I am used to being labeled a Persona Phan-boy so I have no qualms in saying all this boldly with a straight face. If Futaba felt like a little sister to you in 5, then Nanako will make you feel like you really are someone's "Big bro." The character's in P4g are so loveable and you get attached to them so deeply it puts classic heart throb stories like Old yeller to shame.
As a middle-aged man who had never played a Persona game (or any Shin Megami Tensei game) in the past, I finished P4G today. I can't believe I'm saying this about a mere videogame, but I wished I had played a game like this, when I was in high school and a lot younger. You don't except the invaluable messages in just a game to be so important in everyday life.
Anime always seemed like something only young adults could enjoy aside from a few exceptions that tone down the Anime-ness present in a lot of it. I'm 20 and have a weird relationship with Anime, so seeing someone who's arguably out of the age group that's being catered to like this game, encourages me to get this even more.
I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the stuff but I'm digging everything so far. As a total persona noob I'm having a blast. I'm 10 hours in and that's rare for me to put that much time that fast.
I think everyone feels the same. It throws a lot at you but you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid to use a guide, especially on later playthroughs. I mention this not for difficulty but to make sure you find everything the Persona games have to offer.
It's weird for me to have the NG+ custom difficulty right off the bat in this version. Not to mention the ability to change the difficulty on the fly. But it's good. No more grinding, I can just turn money and exp up, and then just... play through a dungeon normally? And not have to go back and forth between two levels for an hour trying to raise my level to stand a chance against the boss? Revolutionary concept, I know.
Everyone is different but I am almost at the end of Persona 4 Golden on the Vita for the first time and had zero issues ever beating any bosses. All I did was do the dungeon and make sure to fight and fully clear each and every floor before moving on and make sure to hit all chests and then after you complete the dungeon, the only other time I went back to it was each time a character recovers and I can go through the whole dungeon a second time to hit the top floor again where they put the optional bosses with really good character weapons and between those weapons and the extra xp from the second time through, never had to grind again.
I hope all the people fighting in the console war realize that exclusives are slowly dying off. Not on just Xbox but PlayStation too and EVENTUALLY Nintendo. Gamers win in the end
Nintendo would rather forgo bankruptcy than put their IPs on other platforms but emulation will always be a thing. If they don't want to make money from the PC market, it's their problem.
PC has always been excluded in the console wars. Sega would put a lot of their stuff on PC, FF would get really bad PC ports when they were Sony exclusive, ect. But you're right about 3rd parties are ditching that exclusivity stuff more and more. But no, Nintendo would rather die than put anything on anything other than their own console
I’m playing this right after having played P5R. Social Links are a lot harder in this game because you don’t have anyone like Chihaya/Kawakami to help you save so much time lol. I’m really liking a lot of the social links though, it legitimately feels like you’re hanging out with friends and just talking about whatever comes to mind rather than necessarily having a full story arc with each confidant like in P5R (not that that’s a bad thing either, in fact it’s quite interesting too). The party feels even more like a legitimately close group of friends than in P5R, which I didn’t even think was possible as the cast in P5R was so good. I suppose part of it is because the game feels a bit more like a slice of life type of thing with the group trying to solve a few murders, whereas the Phantom Thieves were a nationwide phenomenon so there were higher stakes.
I think it's pretty safe to say P4 has the best chemistry between main characters. It's honestly amazing how well they fit together and bounce against eachother. If there was more group bonding in P5/P5R, the PT could be just as good
@@joaoassumpcao3347 Yep, P4G has the best dynamic between the main group. Though I still absolutely love P5R’s group. Played Persona 4 on the ps2 and bought a vita to play golden, had to grab this Sunday and while I'm only 4.5 hrs in its a great port. The ability to change difficulty settings or create a custom difficulty by changing elements of the game is awesome. The only problem I have seen so far is that the voice volume during the cut scenes can be a little low, but as you can rewatch any previous cut scenes just turn up the volume. Anyone who loves story driven rpgs will enjoy this game. Its a supernatural murder mystery, with a high school drama meets Scooby Do meets Twin Peaks with some Twilight Zone sprinkled in for good measure.
I've loved this game since the ps2 back in 2008. y'all can't imagine how DELIGHTED I was to see it ported to PC!! please, guys, play it if you have the chance!
I actually bought my Vita 2 years ago SPECIFICALLY for Persona 4 Golden. I put 20 hours into the ps2 version and knew I had to get golden. And since I worked at a retro game store we sold the console
I've never played a Persona game (expect the Q2 for 3DS but that doesnt really count) Its really nice on the PC, I already put 10 hours to it. Its not completly new to me, because I played all of the SMT games on my 3DS, but it was an instant buy when I saw that 20€ price tag. 25k+ people playing it, I think its a huge success for them, so I hope they will release more of their main titles (not just for the PC but to the switch)
Like others have said, I really hope the Persona games can spread to other platforms. Having been on console for ages, I recently got a PC so I was so happy that I can finally play this.
Matty would you consider doing a video on all of the online showcases that have been announced this year so people like me who may want to watch and keep up have a place to find all of them in one place? Love what you do and love the videos man. Really appreciate what you do
I haven't played any persona games and I bought this yesterday at Steam. so far so good. it has compelling story and im liking the characters so far. so for beginners like me, i recommend it.
singsong "Every Day Is Great At Your Junes" My favourite game of all time, i absolutely adore the story, the characters and the music. my god the music, Shihoko Hirata is a goddess the characters feel so real and like they are my true friends (i like the characters better here than Persona 5, i didn't connect to the Persona 5 cast like i did with Persona 4 cast)
Finished the game last week, and honestly I would say its my 8th favorite game of all time. Can't wait to play eventually play persona 3 and 5. Hopefully they come to pc or switch eventually since I don't have a ps4.
5 couldn't run on switch it's just not powerful enough of a console. And if somehow magically they did get it to run it would take up more then your entire switches memory
I want to play this game so bad, but I can't snap out of my "MUST COMPLETE EVERYTHING" mindset and you really can't, well not with a lot of work, do that with a persona game. I did it with 5 and that ruined the experience for me. ;_;
Just beat Golden two days ago. 5 was my first Persona game and I didn't think I'd come close to liking this more but I'm fucking floored now. Purely in terms of gameplay and graphics Royal is objectively better but the main cast of 4 are so likeable and well written that it's insane. Also Rise is best girl (I'm biased as hell though because not only is her personality exactly my type but I related extremely strongly with her character arc).
One complaint I have is the settings menu. Quite a lot of stuff is "hidden" in there, such as the option of turning on subtitles during the cutscenes. The game doesn't tell you anything about that! I only discovered it because I'm playing with the Japanese audio and I thought it was strange when no text came up at all. And it was only by checking online that I found out that you could turn on the subtitles at the very bottom of the list. And now you say that you can turn on more EXP as well! I didn't know that! I've never seen that in a game like this, so I wasn't looking for it. Still, I refuse to use it. It's a great feature if you're looking to save time or if you're replaying the game, but I want the grind. I've got time to grind. I want to EARN my progress and gear. It makes it all feel more meaningful.
I'm sorry man, this video missed the mark for me...... I bought the game within a minute of finding out about it. Just here to leave a like and comment to help get this spread to more people
A great review! maybe a little biast since u are a Persona gamer, but u try to stay objective, and thats whats inportant. And thx for that tip! did't know u could do that :) And i agree with u about the soundtrack, its awesome and really shows how different both P4 & 5 feel. I can't wait to see P5 or one of the others ones on PC, we have been waiting for so long and its a blast!
Also personal technical problems (which I hope get fixed someday): Cutescenes sadly lag horrible. Found some files online to replace them with low quaility ones so they don't lag as much, but still Game crashed 2 times, but luckely not at serious moments. A bit annoying but not a big deal At one moment, during an all out attack. The animation for that keep on the screen and I could not do anything. The game didn't freeze or anything but stoped working. Luckely just a simple alt+tab solved this problem.
I played through half of p5 and had to stop then noticed that p4g was on steam and decided I liked 5 enough to give 4 a try... Best 20$ I have ever spent!
I still think the intro was way less painful to get through in p4g the p5r, I'm not 100% sure if it's because I played through p4g first and was unfamiliar with all the mechanics still, but that was my experience. Still love both!
I don't know what's weirder, finally seeing my all time favorite video game on the PC after several years, or now being able to play the game at 155 frames per second.
@@Iychoenk a new character called marie with a new social link, another new social link for adachi, the scooters -- which add a couple of new areas, as well as some new scenes such as the beach trip and the ski trip -- an extra month to build up social stats and social links as well as a new dungeon. these are the changes i can recall from the top of my head at least
I love golden but I will say sometimes it’ll tab out of the game in the middle of dungeons and whenever the game tabs out it crashes, don’t know if it’s the game or something wrong with my side though
I have this really bad bug on the steam version to where audio only plays during animated cutscenes, not only that, but it besides on the main menu screen it runs slower than Jedi Fallen Order and I dont know what to do about it.
It seems like 5 or 6 people on steam have this problem as well. They said to download it to a different drive but that didnt work at all for me, let alone my second drive is an external one.
Honestly, the PC ports are great and I'm hoping more of these games come onto steam. But more than anything, I'd personally love them on the switch, too. P4G shows it was designed for handheld, every ui element and text is so big I need to be away from the screen to pay. Steam controller is coming in real handy though, can just play from bed. This particular game though, I would've enjoyed it even more on switch - dunno about the older ones or 5.
As a first time player of persona (with very little previous knowledge) I have to say this game is a blast, and the port is really good! Had 0 crashes in 90 hours of gameplay, some stutters (mainly before all out attacks, but very small ones) but overall its a flawless experience, tho I wish I could say the sam about som streches of the story :/ Still, its a great game and worth every pennt and minute you spend in it

Rious Hima P4 golden has two new social links and a new dungeon. Plus there’s more optional nighttime dialogue for improving the social links of your school friends. There’s other stuff too but that’s mainly it
dude I'm in 40th hour and I didn't know there was an option for make the game easy to play. I just wanna feel story again. Thanks for the info man haha
This game is a ray of sunshine in a dark world.
A foggy world
8:00 You heard it here folks, I'm a genius
What's the different between P4 PS2 & P4 golden?
@@Iychoenk Two new social links, a new dungeon, more events with your friends, new Personas, and there is a new ending.
I got mine at game stop and I still haven't bought a single other game for it
Persona 4 on steam deck is peak gaming!
Thanks bro without you and Dustin I would’ve never got my vita and P4G, I’m halfway thru can’t Thankyou enough for the recommendation
Best part of this? It has built in Japanese dub x3
This guy gets it
That’s true, but Troy Baker voicing as a closeted delinquent is just the best thing.
japanese teddy is not very good. english is superior here.
@@josephdecker5660 they're both insufferable lol
As much as I love the Japanese dub, PERSONA SERIES is something you should enjoy in English Dub.
I've never played a Persona game (expect the Q2 for 3DS but that doesnt really count)
Its really nice on the PC, I already put 10 hours to it. Its not completly new to me, because I played all of the SMT games on my 3DS, but it was an instant buy when I saw that 20€ price tag.
25k+ people playing it, I think its a huge success for them, so I hope they will release more of their main titles (not just for the PC but to the switch)
Even tho I liked Persona 3 FES more I've been having a great time again with P4 :)
Super excited that the game came over to steam. Definitely gonna pick it up once I’m done with my P5R playthrough.
Have they fixed the weird slow down happening?
Great review, man. Many thanks!
Really appreciate what you do
I haven't played any persona games and I bought this yesterday at Steam. so far so good. it has compelling story and im liking the characters so far. so for beginners like me, i recommend it.
singsong "Every Day Is Great At Your Junes"
My favourite game of all time, i absolutely adore the story, the characters and the music. my god the music, Shihoko Hirata is a goddess
the characters feel so real and like they are my true friends (i like the characters better here than Persona 5, i didn't connect to the Persona 5 cast like i did with Persona 4 cast)
Awesome game, review and shirt! :D
Thanks for sharing your thoughts man . It was an insta buy for me..
@@DeShawnMcDonaldMy mom offered to buy me a ps4 and 3 games for it without me having to pay anything, So I now have a ps4.
@@hy9er213 now all you need is p5r and you'll be perfect
@@DeShawnMcDonald dude switch could run zelda botw. It could definitely run persona 5
@@IWantToStayAtYourHouse lmfao comparing persona and botw is like comparing pacman to mass effect
I want to play this game so bad, but I can't snap out of my "MUST COMPLETE EVERYTHING" mindset and you really can't, well not with a lot of work, do that with a persona game. I did it with 5 and that ruined the experience for me.
;_;
Please, spread the love for persona 4 steam and buy it. So Altus can port P5R on pc without any worries
2:24 Persona 1, 2 IS, and 2 EP are all connected.
I only discovered it because I'm playing with the Japanese audio and I thought it was strange when
no text came up at all.
4:43 Confirmed: Mr Bethesda is Matty
Someone who likes Yosuke?
Woah.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I'm sorry man, this video missed the mark for me...... I bought the game within a minute of finding out about it. Just here to leave a like and comment to help get this spread to more people
I got your persona 4 golden review right here
It's Persona 4 but now you can legally play if
A great review! maybe a little biast since u are a Persona gamer, but u try to stay objective, and thats whats inportant.
And thx for that tip! did't know u could do that :)
And i agree with u about the soundtrack, its awesome and really shows how different both P4 & 5 feel.
I can't wait to see P5 or one of the others ones on PC, we have been waiting for so long and its a blast!
Also personal technical problems (which I hope get fixed someday):
Cutescenes sadly lag horrible. Found some files online to replace them with low quaility ones so they don't lag as much, but still
Game crashed 2 times, but luckely not at serious moments. A bit annoying but not a big deal
At one moment, during an all out attack. The animation for that keep on the screen and I could not do anything. The game didn't freeze or anything but stoped working. Luckely just a simple alt+tab solved this problem.
Ok you got me man. Gonna do this.
This should come to consoles like PS4 and Switch
I wish it did I had no choice but to get it on PC, $19
Got P4A on my Xbox man that game is fun.
makes me wonder if a p1-3 remake using the p5 engine would be viable preferably across different platforms or just on pc~
I played through half of p5 and had to stop then noticed that p4g was on steam and decided I liked 5 enough to give 4 a try... Best 20$ I have ever spent!
Welcome back
One of the best series I have ever played
the awakwnings are actually based on jungian psychology and the concept of jungian shadow integration
I still think the intro was way less painful to get through in p4g the p5r, I'm not 100% sure if it's because I played through p4g first and was unfamiliar with all the mechanics still, but that was my experience. Still love both!
sounds like a game that involves a lot of commitment
Yea took me like 100 hrs to finish
Am i the only one who noticed that it said “retum to inaba” at 1:57
So true about the tutorial sections they put me to sleep multiple times. Glad I stuck with it XD
I don't know what's weirder, finally seeing my all time favorite video game on the PC after several years, or now being able to play the game at 155 frames per second.
I've completed P4 twice and I remember everything about it. It's so memorable. I'm so confused if I should play it again.😵
What's different with P4 golden?
@@Iychoenk a new character called marie with a new social link, another new social link for adachi, the scooters -- which add a couple of new areas, as well as some new scenes such as the beach trip and the ski trip -- an extra month to build up social stats and social links as well as a new dungeon. these are the changes i can recall from the top of my head at least
I love golden but I will say sometimes it’ll tab out of the game in the middle of dungeons and whenever the game tabs out it crashes, don’t know if it’s the game or something wrong with my side though
I think im one of the few people that the vita wasnt a p4 machine. For me it was the uncharted golden abyss machine. Quality console tho
Too bad the ports of Ninja Gaiden were shit on vita
now i just want persona 5 royal on pc. i’ve always wanted to play 4 and 5 but never got round to it and now is my perfect chance
I'm just hoping that atlus brings persona 3 to pc. That would make me do happy
i've been playing persona since 3 and 4 is my Favorite
P5 is my jam. Music anime the game. All of it
I have this really bad bug on the steam version to where audio only plays during animated cutscenes, not only that, but it besides on the main menu screen it runs slower than Jedi Fallen Order and I dont know what to do about it.
It seems like 5 or 6 people on steam have this problem as well. They said to download it to a different drive but that didnt work at all for me, let alone my second drive is an external one.
I’m just hoping they eventually port persona 3. I’ve always wanted to try that game out but I’ve never been able to have the chance to play it.
i took a risk with p5 and i freaking loved it. love p4 as well
Best 39 pln spent in my life
Honestly, the PC ports are great and I'm hoping more of these games come onto steam.
The stuttering during cutscenes is such an annoying issue for me.
Did atlus acknowledge it and will release a patch?
where did you get that Junes shirt?
yoo he got it from sanshee
As a first time player of persona (with very little previous knowledge) I have to say this game is a blast, and the port is really good! Had 0 crashes in 90 hours of gameplay, some stutters (mainly before all out attacks, but very small ones) but overall its a flawless experience, tho I wish I could say the sam about som streches of the story :/ Still, its a great game and worth every pennt and minute you spend in it
9:10 dont do this, you will become over leveled and then the game becomes mind-numbingly easy
Beat the game in seven days let’s go!
Best game I've played on my Vita. I'd like to play Persona 5 at some point.
