    If this had been from any other country and another artist, William would have slaughtered it. She has a touching story and I wish her all the best, but let's be real.. The song is basic, it's nothing new. She'll most likely qualify though given her story and Russia's history at ESC

    There is no denying the fact that a powerful back story can elevate the support you get in a televote based competition, but that personal story is usually backed up by equally powerful vocals. I can't see this song being a judges favourite and I can't see Yulia knocking potential voters out off their slippers with her voice.

    Appreciate your thorough analysis of the Julia’s song! There’s a lot of negative talk about her performance unfortunately. I think Russia wanted to give this lady a chance to tell her story, to make her dream come true. It’s not about winning Eurovision, it’s about being humans.

    I don't know why, but I never care about backstories. It's not Eurovision Sob Story Contest after all. I guess backstory COULD elevate good song for me even more, but it won't work that way with bad songs (or even quite the opposite, since pity card...). While this year Russia sounds better, I can't say it's a good piece. But it's Russia and it's in the easier semi so I have no doubts they will qualify.

      I find myself leaning more towards the "Flame is burning" too. Maybe because I've had a year to get accustomed to it. I don't know, in the end "I won't break" is grating to me. I don't think it will be left in the semi where it belongs, we will see it in the finale. Hopefully it won't place higher than top 20, but it is Russia so you never know.

    Much much better than last year. I like the beat, the piano chords at the beginning and the lyrics. I think her accent may be slightly off putting to some but I actually like it. I don’t know about anyone else but to me the song feels very quick. This was already gonna qualify but now it’s well deserved. With some good staging I’m pretty sure Russia will continue their streak of high positions.

    She did sing some english songs on russian tv that sounded fine and not auto tuned. (If they were live) so I'm quite surprised about the bad english i both her eurovision entries..... the whole ting feels a tad manufactured. If her singing is good she will sail trough the semi an get a good score in the final.

    Honestly I'm glad that the Russian broadcasting agent kept the promise to give her a chance, and very glad to see her back. She's gorgeous. The song has a good lyrics but the melody and arrangement are not good, at least better than the last year. This song fails to portray her maximum vocal ability as I've seen her on clips, or maybe her health condition limits her ability. Now it's about the live performance. Anyway, wish her the best in Lisbon.

    Can we stop kidding ourselves? I do enjoy the passion wiwibloggs and the rest of the community put into this contest, but this video clearly shows the biases that exist within this competition. I understand we may sympathise with the singer's experience or even empathise, but in isolation, had this song not been sent by Russia, I am sure a different reaction would have been expressed here.
    Every time a big name country produces sub par songs I like to play the "San Marino game". Would this song be receiving such assuredness of it proceeding to the final if San Marino sent it? ABSOLUTELY NOT!
    William is correct in one thing. This will undoubtedly go through. And in turn, will be taking the place of a far more deserving act.
    This is not an attack on Julia. Her act should be judged like everybody else. And if we dont do that, then we would be insulting her as an artist. She should have been given something decent and now Russia are simply relying on pity and neighbour votes (which they will get).

    • @Prunella304
      @Prunella304 6 лет назад +1

      you didn't understand what i meant. It's Russia who always wants others to pity them and want to act like a victim. It's Russia who chose this girl second year in a row to represent them. I know she is talented and all and i'm not saying she isn't. Russia wants to get pity votes for her in Eurovision and that's why she was chosen again.

    I'm sorry, I hate the song, I hate the video and her English bothers me. Sure, not everyone is fluent and that's completely fine! Her English is better compared to last year's song but she had a whole year to get it right and it's still very bad. I don't care that she's in a wheelchair, I care about the song so don't come @ me calling me names because I couldn't care less. She could be blind, have no legs, bald... I care about the song. Every year I get super excited for Russia because they always have good songs but going from Sergey to Julia. Yikes, went downhill fast.

  • @TheGrindelwald

    Russia has failed to qualify only once since they entered the contest in 1994.
    I did enjoy Buranovskiye Babushki and their "Party for everybody" among with some other tunes Russia has sent. But in general they get very high placements for songs that don't speak to me. Their 2008 win is definitely not their best Eurovision entry.
    So my guess is Russia will qualify as always. But this song just flows into one ear and out though my other ear. I get nothing from it.

    I also don't like the way they cover up her handicap in the music video. Why cover it up? It's a part of her and not a bad thing at all.

    The only reason she will make it to the final is cause semi 2 is weak, if she was in semi 1 she'd have no chance. She has great strength to do this and I applaud that but whether people have disabilities or not shouldn't matter cause in the end it is a song contest. It's better than Flame Is Burning but it's stil awful. If Lithuania had sent this William would've hated it. Julia is very sweet and her voice is pretty good but I'm judging the song not the person. Hope this stays in the semi, which probably won't happen because it's Russia :/

    Last year, if Russia had participated, she would've qualified without even thinking about it. This year, I'm not 100% sure this is enough to qualify, even taking into account Russia's QF history. I like the song, but it's ... not a superstrong song.

    "she is going straight to the final" yes but not for the song but her story and thats sad. agreed there won't be no autotune but the song is meh and borderline bad. take Germany or Hungary..they are talking about loss but u won't really see that but their respective pwrformances. so y should she get a preferential treatment!!!

    I also don`t get all the hate. It is about her! I wish her to go to the finals, she deserves it. I too prefer ``I wont break``, I wasn`t crazy about ``Flame is burning``. Also, I LOVED the final shot, where they made her body look like she is part of nature. The final shot really touched me...

    • @dariakr
      @dariakr 6 лет назад

      I get your point.
      For me, it is like Deban said..it is the whole backstory that touches me. But also, I actually liked the song haha

      @dariakr 6 лет назад

      Will see.. what will happen, will happen. May be she won`t qualify..who knows? Like I said, I actually like the song itself. But her backstory adds to it. I would like her to qualify, because of the song though. The song touched me. Everyone can relate to it.

      May be.. Russia is a strong player. Recently they had good songs, in my opinion. What would we do without Russia. So much fun in Eurovision lol

  • @Steph9737
    @Steph9737 6 лет назад

    I agree with both of you here. I know the song itself , if sung by someone else I'd be like "meh" but honey this is Yulia Samoilova. It's a whole different thing being who she is.
    Eurofans love to point at Russia and judge them harshly because... Whatever. Yet they kept their promise. Then when they can't argue about that, they begin with the issues for disabled people in Russia. Seriously? Oh so, now you care about the disabled eh? I laugh at this hypocrisy.
    I fled another country for being so inaccessible and even abusive toward disabled people. I'm partially blind and as soon as I had a chance to flee, I did. As you said, this is a global issue, not just in Russia but.. haters gonna hate right? I relate to her song so much that I have it in my top5.
    I notice the fans behaviour whenever a country sends one of "us" to sing at Eurovision, it all becomes this politically correct attitude toward a female singer in a wheelchair and nasty comments at a band of punk dudes just cause they have Down Syndrome. If we don't like a song, we don't. That's it. No need to call it "the sympathy vote" or the "troll act" . Don't like it? Move on to the next. Some disabled people also love music and would like to sing. If you can't take that then stop pointing at Russia, and start looking at your own ableist behaviour.
    Yulia and Iriao have my vote in semi2 for sure. I wish her the best of luck. With this fandom, she needs a bit of a luck potion.
    Cheers.

    I understand the concerns about her ability to sing the song live and her enunciation! But I think the production of the song does her wrong, she's shown she's capable of performing and enunciating in English! She performs Flame is Burning with actual live vocals here, and she sounds really good! I think she'll surprise us with her vocals and English in Lisbon ruclips.net/video/4uk9QwV8OGI/видео.html

I hope next year our country will send something stronger and we will try to take a victory bc COME ON. I'm tired. And I want our country win after so many years trying... :) Btw, this year I wish Julia the best of luck.

    It's a nice song, yet quite a generic one. I was looking for a long time online but i can't find Julia singing live on any RUclips video, just lip-synching. My opinion is kinda like Deban's than William's on this song, but let's see how can she do it live. I like the message she sends with this song, but yet, as the song itself, it doesn't excite me that much.

    • @Nutzername92a

      She will do significantly better than Monika. This is Russia we're talking about. Automatic points from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Germany and Finland.
      She's a guaranteed Top 15 finisher, most probably Top 10, I guess even Top 5.

    • @sav0001
      @sav0001 6 лет назад

      No way she finishes in the top 10. Top 15-20 at best. Just because those countries voted for Russia in the past doesn't mean they will do it again. Especially with such a bad song. Most likely they will finish the same as they did in 2011, which was 16th place.
