What a hero!! Thank you!! This is the exact video I’ve been looking for. No shops near me are willing to take this apart and take a look at it for me and I wanted a video to make sure I can put it back together
Great video! I have a 401A and a 500A. These are such well made and fun machines to use. I bet the holes were for increased ventilation so the motor runs cooler as the old lubrication was not lubricating very well.
I found a 401A yesterday with wiring issues. It didn’t have the piece where you plug the power cord but it was rather wired together with some wires inside. I clipped them off and now I’m lost. Does the missing piece I’m talking about just have two prongs? And how are they placed on the piece I have on order. I’m still searching for wiring videos. There was also the pedal wire attached where it should be where you plug it in but the other end was just sitting freely inside the machine. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
haia very insightful. Thank you. Do you happen toe have any knowledge about Riccar machine? It works fine after servicing. Except that the turning wheel goes very stiff. it is a special system . When i put in use the threadwinder with a spool on it something inside is loosened. So the needlebar is not working and the turningwheel goes very smooth.... It still is a riddle i had it as a find in a thriftstore and took it to the maintenance man. (one of the few still around that has knowledge of most brands and immediately he found a problem. But he is a good technician but quite stubborn and says it is good. Strange because my other machine looks a bit like Singer (a Melson form the sixties) the turningwheel moves very easy...
hi Richard, I have a question about the stitch knobs, do you recommend sewing machine oil or dry lubricant to keep them working well and easy to change settings, so many parts need to move when these are changed to a new stitch?

Wonderful, comprehensive video! I just started doing a service/repair job on a 401a, so perfect timing on discovering your video. Thank you😊
I just got a Singer 431G. From an agent for original owner that purchased it in 1964. Has been unused and stored for years.

Very nice job! You are very detailed oriented, which is great. Thank you.

I have Singer one Electronic. It started throwing codes a year or so ago I can't find anyone to service it. I only used it about 8 mos.

Hey Brett on the knobs and the linkages I suggest oil.
I suggest dry lube or a light coat of grease on gears and lobes.
401a
