I was stationed in Stuttgart-Vaihingen back in 1967 and loved the city. There was no Stadtbahn... and Konigstrasse was not a pedestrian mall at the time. This system looks fantastic.
Stuttgart looks very pleasant and verdant with the trees,and grassy track.How do Germans do it?No litter excellent show all round.Neat and tidy an example to us all. Always wanted to see Germany.U-tube is great for travellors with no money.

I was a train spotter as a boy in Hawick Scotland and my tenement was next to the Railway line.We had a high gradient and I loved hearing the steam locomotive trying to push the goods train up the hill and the wheels slipping in the rain,usually with a loco behind and one in front. Trains don't kill people cars kill more people than all the wars of the 20th Century. Auf Wiedersehn!
i am a recently retired transit worker in toronto, canada; like you, i find watching cab-view plane, train & tram videos here on u-toob very calming; it certainly is a whole lot more entertaining than mainstream television; also, i agree with you that stuttgart really is a beautiful city; i've been to germany twice, from kiel to hockenheim, but never through the eastern region, so, i've never been to stuttgart; someday, maybe, i guess, i dunno, i hope...

Reminds me a bit of Boston. Similar characteristics - part street running, part subway, part median. Interesting to see that it was dual guage at one point.
I think, that is because the train tracks are placed along the road and not above or under the road, this makes the construction of stops cheaper and cheaper means, that you can place more stations .
Frequent stops results in slower operation, things can be speeded up with skip stop operation with A and B trains during peak hours. Is there some history on the dual gauge operations? It appears that more of the line was either dual gauge or converted from narrow gauge to standard. A lot of RRs and trams in Europe are meter gauge, they fit into narrow streets and sharp turns better.
Vaihingen is very nice. It's my dream neighborhood. We have couple of building just like these, some of demolished, some of restored. But it's really nice.
This is what we need on the east Coast of the US. Less automobiles. More energy efficient Lower cost to the citizens. But, all the political types tag it as Old fashioned. But in reality it's The way of the future.
Well, certainly not fast, but quicker than walking. However, those living or working between stops have a long walk, which impacts those carrying heavy loads, the elderly, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, all of which limits it's future here.

@30:10 am Donnerstag den 23. Februar 2012 kam ich nach Fellbach, um einfach zu besuchen. Beskidenstraße ist die "letzte" Station in Stuttgart, von da ab ist Fellbach. Der Biergarten an der Ecke von Nürnberger Straße und Karpatenstraße, heißt Danziger Stüble. Das Stüble liegt gerade vor der Stadtgrenze zu Fellbach. Habe ich dort zwei Gläser Stuttgarter Hofbräu getrunken.
@17:35 Staatsgalerie wie es damals vor Stuttgart21 war. Bin ich vom 13. bis 16. Februar in Stuttgart, und habe ich die neue U Bahn Station Staatsgalerie gesehen. Ist sie ja viel anderes als vor dem Bau des südlichen Tunnels der Bauabschnitten 21 bis 23. Eine direkte Verbindung zwischen Hbf/Arnulf-Klett-Platz u.a. mit der U14 sollte vsl. Dezember 2023 in Betriebnahme kommen.

I don't know how I even came here 😂 But the middle rail was used for the older tram which was much smaller. On some Sundays an old train is still driving around the city as a tourist attraction

Nice ride, despite the weather, in what appears to be an industrial, or workers', city. Lots of stations - only one or two minutes from one another. Interesting, how they keep the tracks separate, so cars can in no way happen upon them! How did you get to ride in the cab? Did you need to get some prior, official permission or did you just talk to the driver?

Dalton Chew Because what you now have in Stuttgart is a light rail system that used to be a classic tram system. In some parts they left rests of the former meter gauge because there are still running historical trams on special occasions.
Historiacally the SSB (Rail operator) was mainly trams, despide beeing grade seperated today they don't serve almost no suburbs is really are underground. There is another system the SBahn (lit. CityRailway) that serves commuters from the sourunding towns and suburbs.

Stuttgart is said to be a City with very much traffic and often there are traffic jams at the rush hour on the most important streets.

In France, a 3rd rail is placed in particular places to avoid the train to leave the rails like on the bridge for instance.
