The names are way more impactiful because you see each life the gun devil took as an individual wheter than a number, it wouldn't beas impactful if it was only thw number of deaths
aki's name also puts something really depressing into perspective. his entire life, he'd been fighting to eventually find and kill the gun devil, and yet, even if he was never put under makima's control, he would've been killed in an instant.

I've never watched, but from what I heard it manifested for maybe 5min total, hit several places for only a couple seconds each, and killed several thousand in each place it landed. To experience it would be like experiencing the end of the world, as each person attacked appeared to be random, you could be completely unharmed but the person you were talking to in front of you is now missing their head. It could cause devastation like how it tore of a street with gun fire, tossed cars and leveled buildings, or it could be so accurate that other then a small bullet hole there would be no damage, as also happened several times. It moved and struck so quickly you might not have even seen it, it's range so great people were being shot from well beyond their visual range, from the other side of their country. It wouldn't matter where you were when it attacked, if you were inside a military bunker it would still have shot you, there was no defense to protect you. It would have been a living nightmare.
@@Doflaminguard Thats why I said "appeared random" because you can bet at the time no one knew what was happening or why people were being killed while others weren't.

This is an amazing production. Admittedly, I feel that re-capturing the true fear the Gun Devil inspires when you see it in action for the first time is very difficult, and so while I did not feel that same dread, the technical prowess, scene design and cinemtography were all top notch. I appreciate this for the fact that it is objectively fantastic
I really liked the captions being displayed in typewriter's style, that was exactly how I imagined it to be when reading the manga And the door scene at the end was really well made too, actually conveyed the confusing and creepy setting from the manga
I love this. I hope MAPPA takes inspiration from this and Vitotcher's great interprations of how this scene might look animated. The power of seeing the actual text and names of the victims on screen is huge.
The visuals, the sound design, the way the gun devil's rampage is portrayed as an event that went from 0 to 100 real fucking quick, it all comes together and the end result is (albeit pretty disturbing) a really well done interpretation of the manga, in my honest opinion, it's not a stretch to call this a 10/10
Man I love how MAPPA is getting constantly challenged to do better by talented anime fans. First Kane Pixel’s Attack on Titan, now this! Absolutely phenomenal and inspirational.
The irony is that despite the horror, brutality, and cataclysmic proportions of the Gun Devil, he can still only be summed up as : "He is one of THE devils of all time!"
This was legitimately bone-chilling. I don't know how else to say this, but your a legend. You captured chainsaw man so well in this, it might be even better than the Manga in presentation. That's something I never say about ANYTHING related to chainsawman.
The thing that gets me about this whole sequence is how clinical it is. A mass shooting that kills one of the main characters offscreen without a thought is just presented as a second by second account of events, like a police report. There's nothing anyone can do, it's all in the past. And you got that helplessness in here perfectly.
Chainsaw man goes weirdly well with analog horror type directing. Maybe because of how surreal it already is lmao. Kudos to you either way. This was awesome
Everyone always says they're so excited to see this scene animated, and while it's definitely an impactful and well written one, it's so gruesome even compared to other elements of Chainsaw Man. In some ways I don't want to see it animated any more than this rendition. It only showed what it needed to convey the horror and slaughter of the gun devil and didn't overdo it at risk of dulling the message. Enough is left to the imagination to fill in the gaps where more fear exists, and encapsulates an extreme tradgedy that no one should ever have to witness.
Bro this scene is just a masterpiece. Listing every name makes it feel so crazy, it feels like an actual death of a person instead of just a bunch of people. From that- to the intermittent cuts of people just living life, only to get massacred by the gun devil. The true terror of the gun devil is a sight to behold and this animation truly encapsulates the horror of this beast.
I'm thinking the panels of the church could be a reference to the bombing of Nagasaki by America during WW2. The second bombing missed its intended target by a wide margin, the Mitsubishi Shipyards, and instead detonated just 500 meters from the Urakami Cathedral. The Urakami Cathedral was known to be the biggest church in all of Asia at the time, which is rather interesting to note because Christianity was banned for 250+ years in Japan, so the history behind the creation and existence of that Cathedral, along with the Urakami district itself, is fascinating. The Atomic bomb ended up killing over 10,000 Christians in the area.
This is PHENOMENAL, the lighting and effects and perspective, THE ARTWORK?? The audio?? The visuals and all the amazing little details melt together so well, as the horrific tales of the gun demon arise to live in the backs of our minds, reminding that it is impending doom.
