I agree with you about Becky Chambers books. Despite dealing with human nature, her narratives emphasize hope, resilience, and the capacity for positive change, making feel us as readers, a very comforting vision of future. Looking forward for more Becky Chambers books.
🙌 There are so many SF books (many of them excellent) that warn of a bleak future, that it is always nice to pick up a Becky Chambers novel and get a small dose of hope.
Read To Be Taught If Fortunate and liked it. A Time of Changes has been on my TBR for a while. I am adding The Vanished Birds to my TBR. Thanks for the recommendation.
Great reviews. Reading Vanished Birds right now and love it. Robert Silverberg has so many fantastic books. You should give Lord Valentine’s Castle a try. Fantasy/Sci-Fi. Really fun read.
Thank you. I’m glad to hear you like Lord Valentine’s Castle. I just picked it up at a used bookstore the other day. I definitely want to read more Silverberg this year.
Excellent talk. I don't read a lot of fantasy or science fiction any more but I still enjoy this channel. It is so exciting to find a novel that strikes a chord. It is why we all read I guess.
Thank You! Reading is such a personal endeavor, much more so than watching a play or movie, but I, like you, find pleasure in listening to others describe their subjective reading experiences.
Though I think Jimenez has an even better SF book in his future The Vanished Birds feels important; fresh. Maybe it’s the framed narrative that feels unique. Maybe the prose. The story is good, the characters strong; to me it’s got the whole package. I wonder if you’d like it!?
After being blown away by Spear Cuts Through Water, I will definitely be adding Vanished Birds to my TBR. Jimenez is a beast with the prose. That Beck Chambers book sounds really good. Something else to add to my eternal TBR lol.
So glad you loved The Vanished Birds! I read that one and Jimenez's fantasy book, The Spear Cuts Through Water. I enjoyed The Vanished Birds more, but I think The Spear might objectively be a better book. A Time of Changes sounds so interesting!
Based on The Vanished Birds, I’d say that, Jimenez is a talented writer with an original voice. I’ll likely pick up Spear at some point just on the strength of the first book. A Time of Changes is a classic, mature SF, very interesting premise and a good story. I’d say it feels a bit like a Le Guin if it wasn’t for the way women are portrayed... 😬 but we already talked about that, lol Thanks!
Great books this month, A Time of Changes is probably my next Silverberg read. Thanks Bart.
A Time of Changes is good, a really interesting and well written story. Hope you’ll enjoy.

I have added A Time of Changes to my tbr!
I hope you like it! It’s quite philosophical, but offers a good story, great setting and solid main character. A thought provoking read for sure.
I love the concept you are describing in “A Time of Changes”. I’m intrigued!
It’s great. I’ll talk to you about it.

I am really excited to read To Be Taught if Fortunate, I need to clear a few more titles off my TBR to justify buying it first.
I think you enjoy it! It’s not a book that will change your life, but it is a short and interesting read.
Sounds like you had an excellent reading month in March! You've definitely sold me on The Vanished Birds

@@bartsbookspace From your description it sounds like it's got many of the key ingredients for a great read

I wonder how Vanished Birds will compare with Spear for you. We’ll be reading Jimenez for years to come.
