    Great wrap-up! I recommend following up with The Sunset Limited film-it’s verbatim the same script and so well acted. I just started Klara and the Sun, and I’m very intrigued!

      Thanks, Johanna. I''ll look for the film, I think it's streaming on Max.
      I hope you enjoy Klara and the Sun. I did. 😀 I appreciate Klara even more after reading Ishiguor's more noteworthy Never Let me Go. I am starting to get the feel for the author's voice and his reserved (slow reveal) style of writing.

    Sounds like you had a great reading month! You're in for a treat with the Revelation Space series as the best is yet to come

      Yes, all the books I read in July were not only enjoyable but also memorable.
      I’m excited to continue RS series and glad to hear that it gets even better after book one. 👍

    Remains of the Day, a novel about a butler, is my favorite Ishiguro novel. No twists, no revelations, just a pure human experience story. It is kind of like Stoner in its affect as a novel that is amazing for a reason that is beyond you. I thought I have read pretty much all of McCarthy but missed Sunset Limited. Thanks for the heads up.

      Stoner is high praise! I'm looking forward to reading Remains of the Day. 🙌

    With Sunset Limited; I love how philosophy can be read in the form of a very simple story: a conversation between 2 people. It does not have to be a dry non-fiction text nor does it need to establish a complex story to convey a deeper message. It reminds me a little bit of an epic poem from ancient Greece.

      Interesting, I agree with the entirety of the comment. Perhaps in an epic Greek poem, the chorus functions as the voice; here we get the two main characters in its place. But, then again, I have not read enough Greek poetry to know what I'm talking about. 😂

    Interesting list. I’m intrigued and encouraged to read another book of Kazuo Ishiguro as I really liked “Klara and the Sun”. i’m thinking also about Toni Morrison but I’m not sure if now is a good time for me to dig into those heavy topics

      I think The Bluest Eye is a good intro to Morrison's writing. Maybe not now but you should give it a go at some point.

    Hi Bart! I used to think you were in Australia.. 10:40 Mysterious footsteps! Something goes bumping. I thought it was my upstairs neighbor!
    Been reading Stephen King since Salem's Lot came out. Currently trapped in his Fairy Tale. God I love a huge SK paperback. A friend just flew in with it from the States. I'm in Europe, but from California. We are reversed expats..
    I've been collecting Stanislas Lem books in French edition. I'll come back to you about them with a couple of questions. Laterz, 7

      I have never even visited Australia. 😂 On my bucket list!
      As far as the noise at 10:40 I was shooting the video in a basement and I guess a kid ran upstairs... You can hear everything in this house.
      There is a certain comfort in picking up Stephen King. I got his reacent short story collection; will be reading it soon.
      Glad to hear you're reading Lem! 👍

    I enjoyed “Never Let Me Go” but I need to read “Klara and the Sun.” Good to know their differences before I get there!

    • @bartsbookspace
      @bartsbookspace  2 месяца назад +1

      Klara and the Sun is written from the perspective of the android. That makes the reading experience unique and you can't be sure how reliable our narrator is. I liked it slightly more than I liked Never let me Go; mostly because I strongly connected with Klara.

      @@bartsbookspace have you heard that there is extended DT reading list ? It includes more than 20 books which has some relation to DT. Except Salem’s lot it also includes insomnia , talisman , Black house, Desperation / regulators , rose madder and some others. It’s advised to read them before DT5

    • @bartsbookspace

      @@godzillasan1817 Yes. I even watched a video talking about all the “extra” books and the order in which they should be read. I felt that reading Salem’s Lot made sense but I couldn’t justify reading all the others. It’s already becoming the Year of Stephen King. 😂

    Hey there Bart, great video as always. I'd do my own July wrap up video but I have been reading Seveneves by Neal Stephenson which has taken up most of my reading time since it is nearly 900 pages! Would be grateful if you'd check out my top 10 video at some point and let me know your thoughts :)

    • @bartsbookspace
      @bartsbookspace  2 месяца назад

      Stephenson intimidates me! 😂 I've had Seveneves and Anathem on my TBR for a while now. I want to read at least one of them by the end of the year. How do you like Seveneves? I'll check out your list later today. Thx for watching and commenting. 🙌

    • @SciFiFinds
      @SciFiFinds 2 месяца назад

      @@bartsbookspace Seveneves will probably appeal to you if you like hard science fiction with lots of technical descriptions and less focus on character. It takes a drastic turn for the final third of the book that I won't spoilt but it's quite interesting. I didn't love it but I can appreciate some the things Stephenson does. Thanks for subscribing, I have a long way to go before I am as eloquent as you are!
