Both of my parents were borne and raised in Port Severn. They moved to the USA in their twenties. I spent many summers there and loved working the Severn locks and helping boats through the locks. Those were great days and my most memorable time of my life.
This is my neck of the woods (water-way)! I’ve navigated the Trent Severn many times, both as a deck hand and as a captain. My fav is taking the boat into downtown Ottawa for one of their many summer weekend festivals! Having your personal accommodations walking distance from a capital cities city centre and all the shopping and services is just fabulous! Now I live on the west coast, and I’m preparing my 2000 42’ Marine Trader for a trip from Vancouver to the Sea of Cortez! We will see if all my Great Lakes experience can serve me well on some off shore ocean passages! Happy sailing, you trailerable trawler folks!
Great video, well put together. The Peterborough lift lock it the highest hydraulic lift in the world. Go north from Orillia next time so you can experience the Big Chute marine railway.
Thanks for your comment! We have cruised the Great Loop almost twice and experienced the Big Chute during our first Loop. On the trip shown in the video, we organized a rendezvous of Ranger Tugs in Orillia and afterward, headed for the Rideau Canal, which we had never done before. Last summer we took our two oldest grandkids on a cruise of the TSW, from Peterborough to Orillia. I hope to someday do a video on the Rideau Canal. It was a fabulous trip as well.
Jim n Lisa, What a great video showing the Trent Severn Waterway, we are thinking about becoming loopers and starting to look for a boat this year and take off fall of 23 after a season on the Great Lakes under our belts. Hope to catch you sometime when you are back North. Loved the video. Jim n Donna
Loved it, thanks for sharing this and the awesome locks and the tremendous engineering that goes into place to allow these trips. From Victoria - Australia
What a great Video. I'm so glad you shot the footage of your trip down through the locks and posted it. I met you in Orillia when I was walking the dock and checking out all the lovely Ranger Tugs, so thanks for showing me Kismet and sharing your knowledge as well.
Thanks for posting this, we're about to bring our recently purchased boat home on the same route. It's our first time, so we're trying to be as prepared as possible. This certainly helps!
Hi Robert, thanks for the comment. I will soon be doing a video on our cruise on Canada's Rideau Canada. We did it right after the Trent Severn cruise. Stay tuned!
Hi Jim and Lisa. Just love your story, your videos and your attitudes. We have a new R27 being delivered in a few weeks and cannot wait! You guys have given us tons of ideas. I’ve sent you a few emails but for some reason you’re not receiving them. We are hoping to use our boat as you guys have when traveling across the country, staying in RV parks. I was hoping for more details with respect to using gray tank/black tank, if possible? Huge thanks for your efforts on your videos. Very much appreciated.🙏😘
I just bought a new R27 last night👍🏼🙏. Loved your Q&A with Ranger folks. Have question with respect to emptying black water tank at campground? Thank you.
Thank you. I’ve sent a few emails but my hunch is that you’re not receiving them. If it’s not too much trouble, could you post your email address? Perhaps my messages ended up in spam?😬🤞🏼
We started from Orillia, then on to Trent that time. If you allow a couple of weeks to do the Trent Severn Waterway, you should be good. No need to rush though, it is a great trip.
There is a terrible flaw in your video. You mean person. You didn't take me lol. I'm a Georgian Bay boater and been as far as Peterborough on the Trent. Awesome video, thanks for sharing.
At 3:40 that skipper is flying the Canadian flag from his jack staff, which should be reserved for a club burgee or personal ensign. He seems to be flying the Ranger Tugs company flag under some other flag from the main mast, which is where the national ensign of the nation in which the boat is registered should be flown when underway, and he's flying the United States ensign from the transom, which should be where the national ensign or yacht ensign is flown only when moored. If the Canadian flag is a courtesy flag, which it appears to be, it should be flown from the starboard spreader of the mast, or from a location that is a close substitute for a starboard spreader if the boat is not conventionally rigged. Somebody needs to get a copy of Chapman's and read the section on flag protocol.
@@Trailertrawlerlife I did. My dream is to do the Great Loop in a little Ranger Tug that I'd christen "The Lone Ranger" (and my dinghy would be "Tonto"), so I found your video inspiring. (And I should add that Kismet's "GTYC" club burgee and Bucket List's Canadian flag (being that she's a Canadian boat) are being are being flown correctly. It's only the Audrey Rose on which I noticed errors.)
Is there an unwritten law that forces people to add the most loud annoying music to their video ? Just a gentle put put put of the motors and quite scenery going slowly by. That's the idea of cruising the islands, canals and locks. I've travelled the Trent Severn and I would never have had loud annoying music during our time there so why in the video. I would have enjoyed this video but gave up at 5:40 sec.
Philippe, sorry you did not like the music. Don't think there is any unwritten law. Turning the volume off might have helped. I agree with you on enjoying the natural sounds and scenery while cruising. Guess that is the real-life experience you get only by being on the boat. We certainly don't play music while cruising. I enjoy matching music to film when putting a video together. I love music almost as much as boating (in remote locations, with natural sounds). Sometimes the captured sound is, in itself, annoying. For me, the music helps one transition through each clip.
@@Trailertrawlerlife I most certainly regret my rant. (I could have gone about it in a more subtle way) It is simply that too many great and interesting videos are accompanied by loud music and I get frustrated (getting old might be a reason). I'll go back to your video with a more respectful attitude and enjoy the ride. Like I mentioned, we travelled the entire Trent Severn Waterway back in 1993 (Could have been in 94 ?) but it was 4 weeks in heaven with friends (the boat owner). Again, thanks for the reply and may I just wish you and yours the very best in 2022 (We deserve it !)...........stay safe !
This canal has a very interesting history and structure. It is really a series of lakes connected by a canal. Here is the Wikipedia page (it's OK to Leave RUclips when asked. You can come back.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trent%E2%80%93Severn_Waterway

WOW THANK YOU FOR SHARING GREAT JOB WITH THE CAMERA
Amazing feats of engineering brilliance-beautiful Canadian footage.very well done
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow!! Thanks for posting this! Gives a really good idea of what the Trent Severn is like!
Can’t wait to see your video of your Redeau trip.
I always wanted to see the Trent Severn, thanks for the glimpse.
Wow that is wild how high these locks are.

Fantastic and inspirational. We've added the Trent Severn to the route!
How cool is this?... very. Appreciate you sharing this nicely filmed and scored inland water trip.
Finally watched the video awesome job on the photography

Wonderful trip
Yes it was!
Please make more videos, especially about the boat and navigation. Great camera work!

thanks, you have created a wonderful documentary about your boat trip
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice Video. Superb picture quality.
Thank you so much 😀
nice video ! we noticed our old Ranger '' Bucketlist '' in the video , should have never traded that boat .
Well done!

Well done, great video. Looks like you guys were having a great time along the Trent-Severn. Cheers and happy boating! 🍻⚓
Awesome adventure , thank you for posting the fun.
The trent is a lot of fun! Like these trawlers (tugs) but they would be even better with a flybridge.
Several of the Ranger Tug models have flybridge options. The R29 (Ours) comes with that option, we chose not to have it. Check it out: rangertugs.com
nice little vid, well done!
Ave-fuel burn, ave speed, ave cost of diesel over the trip. Total fuel costs? If you don’t mind sharing. Great video. I’m hooked now.

nice little vid, well done!
What is the average speed on the Trent?
What's happening at 6:50? Is that Bobcaygeon, festival of some sort?
I did the whole system in 1997.
You are on a Ranger Tug, but do you ever see Nordic Tugs?
Was the water clear in the canals?
Excellent. What camera did you shoot video on? thanks
Just my iPhone
How long did it take you to go from one to the other

What kind of trawler and length?
Kismet is a 2018 Ranger Tugs R29
