ESPN really needs to keep this same energy in the middle of winter and stand on this content. If not then just run replays or close in the summer. There’s only so much Lebron stuff they can talk about.
There’s a monetary incentive to show “traditional” sports like basketball or football. I always found those sports to be boring but the audience is huge.
That’s how it is in real time. People take training and winning seriously but at the end of the day everyone’s just hyping each other up and having fun. ESPN focused on scores in the broadcast because they don’t trust Americans to watch anything that isn’t a formal competition
I'm not an expert, but some landings was way off, even one in the top 4. Beans landing was perfect! Think there should be more rules for the landing alone, most of the competitors had a different approach than the other in that aspect. This sport is super fun to watch, wish I learned this 20 years ago! :P Off to more Death Dive videos!!
Agree more rules! A tripple tucked gainer should not get as much points as it did... I get vibs from normal diving and i hop it doesn't go that way. diversity and style in the Air should count more. Landings not so important but more more pain more gain ;)
Yeah. The degree of difficulty might be considered, but the rawness of people doing crazy s#!t off of a ten meter platform and entering for splash.... I coulda been a contender.
ye the thing is there should be extra points for the latest crounch becaus thats the point of tdeath dive i think the rules are ok its not a olympic sport its just a vibe and thats how its should stay in my opinion
I've jumped off that cliff. You can get to it for free from your boat on lake Travis. Or you can go to the State Park that has camping and hike over to the spot instead. The height of the jump can be huge or not so huge depending on the height of the water in the lake at the time. That big rock in the water above the boat (right at the beginning of the video) is a fun spot to jump from too. At the time of this contest the lake level was approximately 638 feet, when it's full it's 681 feet. You can see the high water mark on the rock by the boat and on the cliff behind it. Had they held this contest at the end of the year the jump would have been another 10 feet higher....

Christina grab? Never heard of that. Sounds like the commentator just made it up on the spot haha. "Ooohh that was a super nice..Christina....grab....."
People clearly need to do some research on (ESPN 8 THE OCHO) and how it came to be. I highly suggest starting with Dodgeball. Remember Dogde, duck, dive, dip and Dodge...
What even is the judging criteria for this? 😂 It's a mess and I love it.
Takeoff, style in the air, how late the close was and how big the splash was
@@LeoLambersy Big splash good or bad?

World Cup will be happening, everyone except for a portion of America will be enjoying the winter.
No way, that first guy is going to invent a particle accelerator some day!
The "CHAD" Olympics 🐸
So apparently this is a new sport. 30 years ago my friends and I did this but called it Dummy Diving, not Death Diving 😂😂

That's what I call the sport. Totally out of the box
Wait the ocho is a real thing.....I thought it was just a joke on Dodgeball 🤣🤣🤣
Crazy how for this came from its humble origins in Hawaii
"Perfectly Executed Landing" Idk if these judges have any idea what a perfect death dive landing is...
The triple definitely diserved the win. All the others score's were way too high, nothing compared even close to the triple
My kids will not be afraid to die loving what they do.
But hopefully as a parent you teach the kids that there are no do-overs when you die
This was great!
I think I like this more as a non-scored event. Just a bunch of friends belly flopping just cus

Classic Dods has more formalized rules for landing.

I think they are real thing from some time already but not much exposure. There it's a reddit made by fans/community years ago that still works.

Who's got the address of this place
The background animation 😂
These are nice but nowhere as crazy as the death dive jumpers in Norway
Love this. The only sport you can won at after never practicing.
Hahaha, definitely a lot of practice involved here actually! Timing and rotations to land in a perfect dod is trickier than it might look.
The only sport where 'hold my beer' is said before each dive.
Nah you actually need a lot of practice or you’ll get hurt
Try doing it without practicing then
How can I compete next year!? Wow 💯
Right!!!!
RYAN BEAN IS A BEAST
That Kristoffer got robbed
ESPN can't afford proper mics for both commenters?
The Ocho!
They made a sport out of failed diving! Amazing!
0:49 - Joey Chestnut's doppelganger?
So, you're supposed to land on your face?
Nope, you break the surface of the water with your hands and feet

Do they have scholarships for this ?
