I have to say as a Malaysian that there really is no Malaysian equivalent to Singapore Katong Laksa. Katong Laksa has always been singular. We have curry laksa and curry mee, both of which are different things, and different from Katong Laksa. Now that I think of it, I think it might be that we don't use prawns to flavour the broth.
thanks for this.. as a singaporean i dont think that good laksa is ubiquitous in singapore but i do find katong laksa a standout. it is a punchy and flavourful bowl
hey alderic, would love it if you blogged/vlogged your actual travel. as someone wanting to go on a food tour it'd be nice to know how you managed it, along with planning and budgeting a trip like this. great video as always
Hi Alderic I was the one who said Hi to u at Jonker Walk with my hub. Glad that u got to eat the laksa that was closed when we met. Do visit JB but got no JB laksa to recommend u. Perhaps one of the popular one is 水塘路叻沙. LOL… Good luck!
I have a rather interesting recommendation, Rocky Master Laksa Supreme. Really unusual, I know. Really expensive for laksa ($13++, If I remember correctly), I know. But.. I kind of like the quail's eggs and sotong balls in their laksa leh! And the cucumber in their laksa, very unorthodox, but it gives a refreshing crunch and neutralizes the lemakness a little. I'd like to know what u think!
The 10% difference in the broth taste between the claypot laksa and normal laksa likely comes from e-mee. As you mention, e-mee has a distinctive taste, and it is often transferred to the soup/broth. It may be the "deep-fried/oil" taste that comes from the preparation of the e-mee.
@@Alderic. Aiyo. Such dedication! Wah maybe you will have to do a revisit at the end of the series to try the laksa again when you're at full power.... *hint hint*
Hey Alderic, great series so far ! might I suggest, don't sleep on Penang laksa. There're pretty different in terms of the usual curry based laksa, but using asam, fish, pineapple combo. Pretty unique I must say and lots of good ones in Penang if you get the chance to get there and try !
No unfortunately. It's to appease my appetite as a creator. I know 60% of you would rather an only-SG series but I have to put me first on this one. Sorry!
Your Plan B.... Jonker 88 like Joker 88.... Looks very watery...can see that lacks of dried shrimp bits and coconut milk in them. Oh and the taupok looks like way too fresh... meaning not well cooked in the laksa broth...
wah, as much as i love malaysian food, somehow i feel like Singaporean laksa has evolved to suit our palate and their version of laksa is just gonna be so different its not a (fair) comparison. This episode was kinda strange for me to watch as its almost like comparing different dishes.
For really good laksa in Melaka, do go to d’LEETcious Nyonya Laksa Empire in Kota Laksamana. Daniel is the guy that originally was the laksa guy at Calanthe, and left to start his own. Much better than Calanthe’s!
Lmao that baba laksa is like bee hoon lontong Alderic, Alderic, just admit that pre-cut thicc bee hoon noodles are the best noodle for laksa 😏 also cockles are the best laksa toppings
Also u know why this place no cockles? cause it is appealing to the no pork no lard crowd. U need to go to a chinese place to get bloody cockles. Try Aunty Nance, BESS laksa instead

I wouldnt be surprised if your first 3 plate award goes to Prima Taste. A laska that anyone can cook at home. 😂
Prima taste is really good
Wow didn't expect you to find this laksa in Melaka. My go to when I go there
hey alderic, would love it if you blogged/vlogged your actual travel. as someone wanting to go on a food tour it'd be nice to know how you managed it, along with planning and budgeting a trip like this. great video as always
gotcha, I'll try to include a segment for future series. thanks for letting me know!
Another great review alderic. As expected from da GOAT 🔥🔥🔥
Still no 3 plates omg whats with this series. The ep flew by so fast i cant wait for next wk

hello! great to meet you guys! I think I'll do a more open-ended video when it comes to JB instead of sticking to one dish. thanks for saying hi!

Damn the name already sounds like a bankai.
you went to tourist spot bro ! they are more hidden gems for the locals

good catch! sounds very plausible.
interesting, but it does seem that thick beehoon is not as dominant in Malaysia as compared to Singapore
I should have mentioned in the video, but they don't offer the thick beehoon at all in Melaka.
@@Alderic. wow, i thought it will only be unpopular option, but they dont offer it at all is very surprising
Were you having a cold during the filming?
yeah, tried my best to hide it.
@@Alderic. Aiyo. Such dedication! Wah maybe you will have to do a revisit at the end of the series to try the laksa again when you're at full power.... *hint hint*
@@streen2000 no spoilers.
Maybe you want to try Rumah Makan Tabona in Medan, best curry noodle.
the insect just chilling in the bowl at 10:23....
Love to hear your conclusion to the series.
They can get fresh coconut milk very easily, sinkies only have pkt Kara coconut milk

Bro.. can stick to SG?
Travelling to MY just to get 1 of the better laksa.

Just putting it out there, I ❤ the overseas component to the series
@@streen2000 same! Love the diversity and the OCDness of Alderic to go overseas to do his comparisons
Batam also have laksa best i recommend is at Kedai Kopi Sudi Mampir and at kopitiam at Pasar Cahaya Garden please visit them too
I hope that you tried the best popiah you will ever have in your life when you were in Melaka.
Your Plan B.... Jonker 88 like Joker 88.... Looks very watery...can see that lacks of dried shrimp bits and coconut milk in them. Oh and the taupok looks like way too fresh... meaning not well cooked in the laksa broth...
It's almost criminal to give this the same rating as 328 Katong Laksa! 🤣 This is IMO streets ahead of 328, objectively speaking.
The look of the Laksa from the first shop is like they simply got the soup from the sewage 😂
I think yee mien is alkaline noodle which is probably what you are tasting
😅u wan suitable noodles? Try:
1) Mee Pok or
2) Mee Kia....
Many tried my suggestions, n agreed 😅
Alderic i think you should blur the faces of the people in the background
I'd only do it if the camera is pointed too close like in the Jonker 88 part. If not, it's too much work to blur out every scene.

even within Melaka, the laksas vary quite a bit.
you are really good at this food thing
Nice!!!! Lesss goooooooo

i get my yearly supply of laksa at SATS Premier Lounge. please review that!
Welp the hunt for a 3 bowl go on 😅

Alderic, Alderic, just admit that pre-cut thicc bee hoon noodles are the best noodle for laksa 😏
also cockles are the best laksa toppings
I'm first?! Lets goooo~
LOL... when did you start using Demon Slayer naming convention??? HAHAHA🤣🤣🤣
wdym it's been like that for Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur as well!
@@Alderic. Oops... I must have missed it... but 3 cheers for the DS reference ;-)
bro u sound sick
Oh damn I tried to hide it the best I could.
Nah. Must be puberty
Could it be that laksa is not for you? Could it be that it has too many inbuilt deficiencies for you to find a best laksa to be awarded 3 plates?
It could be but I sure hope not. Plenty of good laksas left to go!
Also u know why this place no cockles? cause it is appealing to the no pork no lard crowd.
U need to go to a chinese place to get bloody cockles. Try Aunty Nance, BESS laksa instead
Mee fen mian is the answer
harris ann laksa actually shiok
Msia laksa always feels more curry than Laksa if you know what I mean.
IMO, sg laksa and my laksa are two different things
no self respecting Malaccan nyonya laksa seller would give you the leaf la, but they do use quite a lot of them in the broth please. they are so cheap
This is a different laksa. Just saying.
Uhhh, honestly ur not doing Jonker 88 justice. Its because their main highlight is the nyonya asam laksa, not the baba laksa.
"Harmless" laksa? Sad...
Gonna get flamed but wtv. Railmall E.A.T Laksa add tau kee, chili and strangely the chicken wing go late at night like 1am for the extra buff
