I recommend "hard facing" the grousers (tedious but worth it) Also, replace every single bolt on the track with 3/8" gold zinc grade #8 bolts. Use ny-lock nuts so you can get tge torque you desire without overstressing the belt. Most importantly ,make sure you dont have the flat backing plates as they cut into the belts. They make them conicle shaped now. Buy bolts long enough to add a "belt bandaid" if you break a track when you're pulling or turning. I got my bolts at oregon wholesale hardware on 1st street in bend. Beautiful machine sir, Congratulations!
There is a gentleman up here in the northern end of the state that has been collecting Tucker snocats. I think that he said his collection is 50 units. The last time I was at his place a couple of years ago I think he only had 20 or 25. I really enjoy seeing the things. My father worked in snow surveys for many years starting in the early 40s and their office purchased the second unit that tucker built and several more over the years. He had told me about some of the testing of the first 4 pontoon cats at Crater Lake. they just shoveled the top edge of the snow bank a little and were able to drive it up.
@@CaseyLaDelle What was the decisive factor for the decision in favor of the jeep tracks and against the snowcat? Flexibility or what else? Love your Viedeos, keep going👍
@@mechanikundco9118 the snowcat is better in deep snow and getting deep into the backcountry, but that's not what I'm doing. I need to go get vehicles, and the tracked Jeep will easily go anywhere a vehicle with tires went and got stuck. The Jeep is easier and safer to transport, can be driven down the road, and absolutely blows the snowcat away in cruising speed. The only time a snowcat wins is in jobs like the recent one where the vehicle was left in the woods and a big snowstorm came before we could get to it. But cases like that are few and far between
Spent many hrs in a BR350 and enjoyed ALMOST every minute. Took one very scary ride straight down a 1 1/2 mile trail with almost no control. Under a couple inches of new snow, it was all ice. The carbide picks on each metal cleat was the only thing that scratched the ice providing a little control.
