Tech band has a lot respect for HBCU bands. The arrangement was based off of Grambling's. Tech introduced it into their playlist back in 1999. To those that are not familiar where Tech is located, they are next door to Grambling (5 miles down the road). When I was in college, we partied with many of KKPsi guys there. It's all about the band and having fun.
My man on the Btone sold me because that cat is getting down! Alright Tech do ya thang! Ima SU man and TigerBand21 if you don't think SU has class then you need to check yourself. If the only props you base you comment on is the Louisiana Hall of Fame, then I'll let you live in your own lil world and not burst you bubble on our accolades. Trust!
COOMMMMEEE ONNNNN DEY WAAZZZ FYE!!! KNOWIND THAT GSU IS THE FOUNDERS OF THIS SONG!!!!!! I BELIEVE THE GSU BAND DIRECTOR ARRANGED THIS FOR THEM!!! IIGHT YALL NON HBCUzzzz go head!!!!318 reppin'!!!
Yes, Cameo "composed" the song "Talkin' Out The Side Of Your Neck". I was not implying Tech was the originator of the song. I used the term "arranged". Example: There are different arrangements of this song by many other marching bands. Grambling, SU, FAMU, TECH, have different arrangements of the song Neck.
Not be To be honest, True most HBCU normally rides with this song but I hear a few other universities try to play it , so far this is the best I heard. C'mon u gott give L-tech some kind of props, Cuz they do sound Alright. If they can speed up the tempo and lose some of the bass drums they could turn some heads with this song. NICE JOB!
I think everyone knows that the HBCU bands own this song but this version is pretty damn good. La Tech could teach LSU a thing or two about how to play "Neck".
Recorded with a Cannon Powershot SD800 IS digital camera, not the best thing to record videos with. The mic only pics up what is near by (like the baritones and drums) everything else sounds distant.
You guys were pretty good. I give you credit for doing it. Some "non-HBCU" schools are a little too stuffy to do things like this. It didn't seem like mocking but you guys seemed to really like the song.
Yeah they really did play this song pretty good for a corps style band. And you're right. Too many corp bands don't play songs like this. I guess they must have figured out that show styles get you invitations to play in events like the Super Bowl.
would the fact that a lot of you are "talking out the side of your neck" about a band playing talking out the side of your neck be considered a self-fulfilling prophecy
Someone needs to get a more recent video of Tech's band playing this. So far I think we're sounding and looking a lot better when we've played Neck this year.
This would be considered Old School R&B (funk). Glad to see that you are "expanding your horizons," taking an interest in other forms of music (notice the word "Ghetto" was not utilized in the sentence, lol).
Thanks for compliment. Yeah it's not GSU's version, it was based off of their rendition back in 2000 (rearranged though to fit for a corp style band). Overall it was a fun experience getting to hangout and bond with members at GSU when I was in school. Bridging the gap.
This was our very first home game of the 2006 season so it doesnt sound all that great because hes right next to the percussion which is y you hear so much bass drum.
Not even. The '07 TSU's hornline I saw at the HEB Turkey Day Parade in Houston can't even define "intonation" as it was audible torture listening to TSU's hornline over blow wrong notes, and their drumline sound like shoes in a dryer.
@qng001 actually the guy took a version from GSU and adding some parts I know this because I gave him the music in 2001 when I was GSU band librarian Dr. P told me to give him our first version. Don't believe me call me out on it
@qng001 @qng001 actually the guy took a version from GSU and adding some parts I know this because I gave him the music in 2001 when I was GSU band librarian Dr. P told me to give him our first version. Don't believe me call me out on it. But all in its a ok job See ya'll Sept 4TH in Shreveport
@GeauxLSU248 Nothing wrong with SU buddy. I known people who earned their bachelor's degree from SU and earned their master's degree from LSU with ease, so don't treat my alma mater SU like crap because you can learn something influential from any university.
Actually all 3 of the directors are white, that guy in the front is the drum major. white people can play too. (im the second tenor player from the camera)
well, that wasn't GSU's rendition of neck...but it was a pretty good rendition...you all have a good band but I would have to be biased and say that Grambling is the best.
horns sound great! but dont really like the drum arrangement..lil bit more funk it this song will sound even better and be even hyper! but overall NICE!
well black guys ARE better at playing the tuba, no doubt. im probably one of the few white guys that can even compete w/ a black dude when it comes to the tuba
haha wow Grambling State is garbage at every song they play thats why every year SU blows them out at the Bayou Classic. P.S. Tech got neck from Grambling and re did it. At least Tech sounds better..
it's two completely different schools of thought. Show bands 99 times out of a hundred sound like ass, and i personally would rather hear good music played well rather than a band ruining a good tune with bad tone and no groove. just my opinion.
It was arranged by students at Tech. Read the video description.
Awesome and I am in a college marching band
They crankin. Good job La Tech.
im an HBCU student...and i love this!!

I miss the band, I miss Tech. I want to be a college student again!!

GSU is not the founder of the song. It's actually the funk band Cameo, and SC State was playing this in the early 80s. I know, I WAS THERE!
@Trombone546 Haha. Especially ol' dude on baritone.
wow, Nice.

this was arranged by my fraternity brother Keith Sanders.
@killahcornbread I GO TO LSU AND LA TECH SICK AS FUCK GOTTA GIVE PROPS
I think everyone knows that the HBCU bands own this song but this version is pretty damn good. La Tech could teach LSU a thing or two about how to play "Neck".

Sorry for the late response, but YES, the Band of Pride does march. That's just a stand tune
LMAO @ the baritone in the glasses thinking he is blowing.
Yeah they really did play this song pretty good for a corps style band. And you're right. Too many corp bands don't play songs like this. I guess they must have figured out that show styles get you invitations to play in events like the Super Bowl.
LOUISIANA jus knowz how 2party!!!!
I cant wait to make my daughter apart of Louisiana Tech's legacy. Go Dawgs!

Actually no, they did not get it from GSU's director. It was arranged by the band member. It's not difficult to pick out the song.
This would be considered Old School R&B (funk). Glad to see that you are "expanding your horizons," taking an interest in other forms of music (notice the word "Ghetto" was not utilized in the sentence, lol).
this is the best school
I like your positive comment
why does this sound like it's bits and pieces of every HBCU band's version ?
i heA Ya LA TECH. is dem blu bandanas...omg
I must say for yall to be a NON-HBCU yall did yall thing!!!
Thanks for compliment. Yeah it's not GSU's version, it was based off of their rendition back in 2000 (rearranged though to fit for a corp style band). Overall it was a fun experience getting to hangout and bond with members at GSU when I was in school. Bridging the gap.
yo lok at that baritone right that man yo he was jamming
Tech plays it better than GSU but they will never be as crunk with it as GSU!! Go Tigers!
wow....im impressed....i really dont know wut to say, i've never even heard of La Tech
does anyone have the music to this that they would be willing to give me?
Damn Good. By the way that is not GSU version. SU has a homemade version.
This was our very first home game of the 2006 season so it doesnt sound all that great because hes right next to the percussion which is y you hear so much bass drum.
This arrangement of neck is better than lsu waterd down arrangement
HAHAHAHA!!!!!! Thats funny!!! Wrong for that one!!! LMAO!!!!
this is way better than lsu's neck
Grambling got to play tech again
my bad i meant this for another vid. he arranged one for a class with jrob but youre right this wasnt it.
Not bad for being 5 min down the road from GSU lol
Not even. The '07 TSU's hornline I saw at the HEB Turkey Day Parade in Houston can't even define "intonation" as it was audible torture listening to TSU's hornline over blow wrong notes, and their drumline sound like shoes in a dryer.

LATech should have ask SU for the aggrement to neck because GSU neck is water down
sound better than southern's :P
It sounds pretty good to me considering that its usually played by HBCU'S. I like yall's version almost better tho.
lol pretty good.. But nothing beats the SWAC!!!
sounds better than lsu's neck
what the hell! yall sound good though
well, last time I checked, LSU was in the Louisiana music Hall of Fame....not Southern.
LSU has class
Southern...well...not so much
@GeauxLSU248 Nothing wrong with SU buddy. I known people who earned their bachelor's degree from SU and earned their master's degree from LSU with ease, so don't treat my alma mater SU like crap because you can learn something influential from any university.
Good comment. I'm so tired of the race card being played in society today in ANY SUBJECT.
LOL. This is good. But, is you didnt notice they have a black drum major!!!
Actually all 3 of the directors are white, that guy in the front is the drum major. white people can play too. (im the second tenor player from the camera)
"aian't"? Must be that Grambling education.
well, that wasn't GSU's rendition of neck...but it was a pretty good rendition...you all have a good band but I would have to be biased and say that Grambling is the best.
better than lsu's crap version for sure.
And I'm a SWAC band fan.
Actually.... in 2007 SU was rated a top 10 Marching band.... LSU wasnt in the top 10
yaw white folks got down
go head but you will never be able to
come close to
the original kings of krunk'ness
HBCU BANDS BABY!
I see they do not teach grammar at Norfolk.
Not bad for some white people. Ya'll did good.
horns sound great! but dont really like the drum arrangement..lil bit more funk it this song will sound even better and be even hyper! but overall NICE!
Won't be enough for what?
@Jimbojimjim123 Id say it was more interesting to see Tech play this but otherwise id have to disagree and say hbcu's have this song
well black guys ARE better at playing the tuba, no doubt. im probably one of the few white guys that can even compete w/ a black dude when it comes to the tuba
@dgoodman why does everyone think it has to be a predomenetly blk band or HBCU to play this song. stfu how it was good FOR A BAND
Sorry but SU's band is really good. I have much respect on what they bring to the band world.
@qng001 u can hatin on grambling
they not even playin no Chords??
GRAMBLING WAS NOT THE FOUNDERS OF NECK GIRL"AND DOWN"!!!!!!!!!!
Please...The LSU version isn't great...but it sounds better than this.
haha wow Grambling State is garbage at every song they play thats why every year SU blows them out at the Bayou Classic.
You might be better at heavy brassing, but that's not really playing the tuba.
No it wasn't.
Ommmm GSU neck sucks compared to Southerns
pretty good but grambling and southern do it best
I don't know why but something is just not right...
leave it to Grambling.... and play music more your "style"
