Emma you need to move your rhubarb. It needs loads more space than you've given it when it starts growing like mad. It will dwarf all the things you've planted next to it and shade them out. You could just leave it there but you'll possibly lose the things you've planted around it. When established the rhubarb will cover a square metre + with huge leaves that will block light to anything under them. Good luck though. 👍
Don’t ever stop your videos, am brand new to gardening no clue what am doing, just learning along the way, I look forward to your videos each week, you have me proper howling, keep up the good work 😁
Emma. If you put a piece of copper pipe in your pond it won’t get pond weed. There is also a plant long stiff reed like thing that won’t let it grown. The copper has worked for us. Also too much garlic spray can kill your plants. It’s happened to us 😢. Put it down to this as it’s all we did
You might want to leave your garlic a few more months till the leaves turn yellowy, with having such a wet winter needs some sun for a mint or most things harvest nearer june time
Ordered some 🧤 thanks for the discount code 👍🏻🌿green slimy spirogyra should settle eventually once ponds finds balance naturally. 🐸Great video,Rocky upstaged you 😹
I use a child’s beach net to scoop the leaves of my small pond it helps to keep the algae down, if I get some I use a twig to twist the algae round and round it gets it out easily.
Dig in eggshells into the soil, there has been loads of egg shells in my homemade compost this year and I've no slug issues, slugs seem to hide down in the soil I think.
I watch with cc on was creasing when you told rock only my husband does that 😂😂 forgot to mention on last vlog digging ground cover get a hori hoiri knife you wont regret it after you stop being scarec to use it, all lokging alive ish i like that game, fab vlog Emma have a fab bank holiday 🥰
Lol i thought it looked like slime! On the pond weed. Loving seeing the ❤ for rocky! I wonder if his owners know he has a youtube fanbase! Happy Coronation weekend.
Emma the end is missing on your spray bottle that's why it's not spraying so you need a new bottle so will spray much better than also that in your pond is not pond weed it's algae if you get yourself some pond snails they will help eat the algae and keep it down
Hi I think you my need to change the name of your blog to the Rocky and Emma show😃😃 but if not again another wonderful video have a fantastic weekend . Go to your local pet store and see if there maybe some type of fish you can add to your pond that will eat the slime 🤔
Rocky looks like a Devon rex he's definitely a pure breed cat and very expensive I'm surprised he's not a house cat , I love your videos, I only found you yesterday and have been binge watching ❤️
Hi Emma, your galic and the shallots should be left for another four to six week before you think of lifting them. There ars two types of garlic hard neck and soft neck, if your galic is the hard neck type it will produce a flower spike (in that time) called a scape , (and these can also be picked and used in things like stir frys) after the scapes appear hard neck garlic is usually ready to harvest.
I’m sure someone has commented on this already Emma, but just incase they haven’t… The radish flowers will finish & turn into pods. They will look like small pea or bean pods. So you just need to leave them for a bit longer, but if you can hold out it’s definitely worth it because they probably LOADS of pods 🙌🏻
Where do you remove the slugs and snails to? Throwing them a couple metres away they just come back. I’d rather not kill them. At home can you put them in a garden waste bin?
I love watching your videos. I am fortunate to have a vegetable patch in my garden. I am having problems with my poly tunnel. I have moved position, buried it in the ground with bricks and dirt and still the wind keeps lifting off the cover. Any advice welcome. Thank you
We have a raised pond in our garden and we've found using a net makes it much easier to scoop weed out. Just like one of those long handled fish tank nets.
Marigolds are good for pest control green fly black fly and maybe many more it’s a host plant that attracts them and keeps you crops from being eaten x
Emma when removing the snails from your poly tunnel dont chuck them right outside they will go straight back in or to you other veg.Take them far far away far away.Give you courgettes a good water they'll be fine. ❤
😀 Another great update. Have you/do you collect seeds from any of your crops for next year? I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject, but would be great to hear if you do, or don't, and why 😀👍thanks
Hi Emma Though few, there are some plants that actually suffer when planted near garlic. Be sure to keep asparagus, peas, beans, sage, and parsley far away from it, as their growth can be stunted. Hope this helps x
17:04 I have somewhat doubts about tree and sun having a massive impact on the pond weed... My pond is far from trees and stays in full sun all the time (when sun is out) and there is still a massive growth of pond weed. I would catch it out here and then. And I'm using a recommendation from my plot neighbour - put some buchweat straws in the pond to slow down the growth. I'd buy it in the "PetsAtHome" - put one in and it floats there for a while. When it is completely under water then it is time to change it. And why one would catch the pond weed out with gloves when you can use a small fishnet..
Love watching your videos and Rocky. ❤ Yes, the raddish flowers have to go over and form seed pods, when the seed pods are full and plump - but still green (not brown and dried) you can eat it fresh! I think they taste better than the raddish! 🎉
It's the radish seed pods that people eat, which I'm sure come after the flowers are done. They're long and skinny like small bean pods. Enjoy your garden vlog!
I'm so pleased you have carrots. I literally have tried for two years now and cannot seem to get carrots to even germinate! Any tips Emma? That cat is so beautiful. Did he enjoy his treats? 🐈⬛🖤
@@emmasallotmentdiaries haha yes that's what I did. So I've whacked some more in today and hoped for the best. I have a suspicion that as soon as they pop the little critters are getting them. Don't think the weather is helping me much this year is it lol xx
Hiya Emma oh lol you and Rocky your comments re your bottom lol.Anywhoo luv it’s all looking great. Enjoy your Coronation . Blessings luv Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
Get a cheap shallow bowl and put the Rocky's treats in that before you leave the shed, if Rocky then shows up just put the bowl on the floor for him/her, will save you the stress of him/her pestering you when you are trying to open the packet. Rocky clearly loves you lol.
Wild garlic. Marigolds. Compost tea. Best weed and pest control you will ever need!. A little solar powered pump will get rid of all that pond snot too.
Have you never heard that cats choose people? It seems clear to me that this one has chosen you. And by the way, *licking* another being is a way cats show affection, particularly when they lick a human no matter how rude we may find their choice of location for the licking to be. This cat reminds me of one who twice lost his owner (same owner, and I am not certain *why* the owner had to surrender the pet he was so close with) and who was desperate to become *somebody's* cat; he was staying with my next door neighbor who did a lot of cat fosterage work and the twice-lost kitty would "claim" any human who would tolerate her or was kind to her. Frequently that one climbed all over me---literally. It's not true that cats are naturally aloof (I say this for the benefit of those people who still believe that they are) or neurotic or inveterate loners; we make them that way by treating them as if they are. Your Rocky is acting very much like a cat who needs to find his "belonging" arrangement and I'm betting that if you give him/her some time for "just we two," with jaw rubs (very gentle ones!) and forehead and between-ear pets, you'll find he's less frantic for attention once he's learned he'll get it and that he can afford to wait a minute or two. He appears to be very affectionate and in need of loving. Garlic. There's a garlic grower (I want to say professional, but I'm not sure I'm recalling that correctly) who rather than gauging the percent of yellowing of the leaves counts the number of still-green leaves remaining to determine when a garlic of a given category (porcelain, rocambole, artichoke, turban/Asiatic, etc.) is ready to harvest and claims it's more reliable. I know this half-bit of information isn't terribly helpful; if you ask it, I'll see if I can't find the reference on it.
Hi Emma don't know if I told you i got my allotment I had it for two weeks we made three raised beds today and got polytunnel up your garden is looking very good green fingers Emma
Hi Emma loving all your allotment diaries. Myself and my hubby have just recently got an allotment do you mind me asking what is the blue coil that you cut to cover you raised bed. Thanks Jen
He will never go as you gave him treats, I did that to a cat but they just want a bit of love and cuddles. He may not have an owner and them few treats may be the only good thing he has bless him / he x
Where the courgettes hardened off to sun? The new leaves will have developed their own UV protection but if you didn't gradually introduce the plants to sunlight then the cotyledons and first leaves may have not have had enough UV protection.
I'd chop off those scorched limp leaves and net the row and mulch. Then fresh air can get in but not the birds and deter the slugs where you can! I've laughed so much at this vid with Rocky. It'll be Emma and Rocky's allotment diaries soon!!
You should throw all the pond muck into a 5 gallon bucket with water and let it sit a while. Turn it into liquid fertilzer for your garden.
I agree ..it's gold! 😊
That's so great to know, I'll definitely do that! x
Add neem oil to your bottle of garlic. Sold in health food store and together are a tremendous help with keeping the slugs and snails off.
I grow my courgettes at home in pots until they are quite big then I plant them out in my allotment and they don’t need protection!!
Can’t wait for your posts Emma. You’re so entertaining and happy. Good luck with all your plants in your allotment. ❤
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me! x

I agree. My rhubarb has gone crazy I had to split it and give some roots to my neighbours
Garlic planted in autumn is usually ready in july when 3 bottom leaves have died off.

get one of them cheap sun driven fountains for the pond, more oxygen will help with the algae problem

If you buy a pack of watercress from your local supermarket, throw it in the pond it will grow roots and grow in the pond. It flowers nicely too.
