Ha, ha, ha! It's four-ish years now! (Which is especially ironic because while I've watched many of your videos recently while learning PA in the last month, given how old/not as accurate some things were presented as during this video I took note that it was almost four years old and things have definitely changed in PA since you originally posted.... and then your comment! 😀 Ha!) Much appreciation to so many of the MS platform pros for putting all your knowledge out there for the rest of us to benefit from! Thank you!
Like you said, I am watching your video 4 years from when you made it. It's still very relevant. Great Work.!!! and as always very helpful. Thank you.

Great video!!! And I am watching it 3 years later (June 2021)
Thanks! I was able to make a searchbox in one go with this info
Awesome! Congrats.
Five years and this video is still relevant and informative. Love your tutorials. The videos are brilliant and have helped me overcome some big hurdles as I build my apps. Question: How do I get a search box to sort through the "all" option of a DropDown filter? I built a drop down filter to sort my data by department and I included an "all" option to show all employees. I then created a search box to sort through the names of employees, based on the drop down selecdtion. Everything works great, except for when I select "all". The search box then stops working.
I think it is a combination of this video ruclips.net/video/iG8SjWtX1yM/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/Fstk03c9dcg/видео.html
Search(Filter(table, field = dropdown Or dropdown = "All"), SearchInput, "FieldToSearch")
Something very close to that.
As you said. I am watching after 4 years. Anyway your tutorials are precious and accurate. great work. thanks for helping us. Cheers

It will be 4 soon enough. 😁 Good news the UI has changed but the function use has not.
Nearly 4... thanks for your videos mate!
Crazy. Good news this function hasn't changed at all in that time. :)
Shane - I would like to change the search to a "contains". Not sure what to exchange the 'StartsWith '. Here is what I'm referencing: SortByColumns(Filter([@'PD Administrator On-Call Schedule'], StartsWith(Title, TextSearchBox1.Text)), "Title", If(SortDescending1, Descending, Ascending)). Your guidance needed, thank you! :)
Nice work, thanks Shane!

Hahaha over 3.5 years later... Awesome teaching!
Thanks Doug 😎
Hi Shane! Thank you for this and the Filter video. Learned lots from it. My question for you is, if I try to filter (for the purpose of not allowing to see records from another department, but I want to search on those that are left, how can I do that? The two Formulas are like this:
Filter(Table1, Department = "FM20")
SortByColumns(Search(Table1, TextSearchBox1.Text, "Name","Address1","City"), "Name", If(SortDescending1, Descending, Ascending))
Can they be combined since they are both pointing to the BrowseGallery?
Yes you can nest filter and search. Replace the Table1 in your search formula with the filter formula.
Shane, nice joob! Thank you for this video, holped me a lot...
Awesome 😎

Dear Shane, thanks a lot for this tutorial, i have a question, is it possible to highlight the search result with the typed letter, e.g : Greg in search box , the text in the search result Greg is highlighted.
Many thanks
Almost 4 years later...this was very helpful! I have a question...do you have a video that shows how to have both a dropdown and search for the same gallery? I have two dropdowns (one reliant on the other) that works well, and the search function that works well, but I would like to be able to do either one. Ideas?
Searchbox: Search('Definitions Test',SearchBox.Text,"Title", "Friendly", "BusinessDefinition", "DataOwner")
Dropdowns: If(IsBlank(FriendlyDD.Selected.Friendly),If(CategoryDD.Selected.Result="All",'Definitions Test',Filter('Definitions Test',CategoryDD.Selected.Result=Category)),Filter(If(CategoryDD.Selected.Result="All",'Definitions Test',Filter('Definitions Test',CategoryDD.Selected.Result=Category)),FriendlyDD.Selected.Friendly=Friendly))
Hahaha it's 4 years from now -- for real, GREAT videos

Hi Shane! I've been loving your videos. Do you know if there is a way to run AWS ElasticSearch within a search component on a PowerApps app? How to call that API from within PowerApps?
This is excellent, as always. thank you so much.

@@ShanesCows have you got any recording about using variables? I'm struggling with Search by non-text columns and I believe this this can be managed by creating Global variables
Shane, Thank you for the video, Do you have any info on how you can search for more than words like using a SPLIT
Hmmm I haven’t done that best I can recall. Sorry
Thanks for Sharing Shane, and a happy new year :)

Hi Shane, is it possible on the search field to ignore a hyphen?
example:
on the data you have "ABC-100"
but i will only type "ABC100" on the search field and it can still search/filter it?
good always you have the solution

Can lookup column work with search function together, now? I have had that problem too because i set my column type is lookup. Thanks
Shane - thanks for video! It's really helped me out. I using the drop-down to show columns search... I get data from a column named 'Group' in my Sharepoint list. What I don't understand is how to prevent showing multiple values of the same name within the group column. Would you direct me in how to fix this? Thanks again for the video :)
Love it!
Awesome 😎
Awesome, it is 2020 !
Crazy isn’t it. 😎
Hi Shane great video it worked a treat. Quick Q is there anyway the seach box can look for a value. Thank you
Hi Karen I think you are asking for type ahead and not really possible.
Excellent. Do you know how hand the accent in words? I mean, in Spanish or French languages is used the accent in vowels (for example función word), but if I write the word without the accent, the function SEARCH won't find out it. Is there any function or algorithm to solve this little issue?
I built an app inside of teams so that it is deployed and only my team can access it because it is for our IT inventory. The app has fully functional and really improved things. Except I don't have a search function. When I go to edit the app in powerapps for teams I cannot seem to find a "text input" to add. Only a "text box" which obviously does not help me. any advice you can give on this?
Hi Shane, thank you for all your videos. Is there a way to use the search function for Person or Group column in a datatable?
Nope only text columns. Look at In operator (recent video) for something you might try
@@ShanesCows thank you for your response. I was able to use filter as a substitute. I will definitely check out the video you recommended for further insight. Have a great day.
Hi. Thank you very much. I love your videos! One question about the SEARCH - why can't I do it with sharepoint list "Choice" or "Person" columns?
Those are complex column types and have different rules. 😑
@@ShanesCows Hey! We found a solution for this issue: 1. Create a new text column in the sharepoint list called "Text to search". 2. Add this as a field in the form and set it's datacardvalue.default to the text of your "complex type" columns as: Concatenate(Text(DataCardValue7.Selected.DisplayName),",",Text(DataCardValue15.SelectedDate),",",Text(DataCardValue17.SelectedDate),",",Text(DataCardValue1.Selected.Value)) 3. Do it to 'New form' as well as 'Edit form' 4. Turn he field visible property to 'False'
@@user-du1zy4ck5j This was better than nothing as I needed to search a couple of choice columns. Thanks
Yo Shane, thanks for the info. Question - how do we stop from hammering our backend SQL server when employing search out of the box? It appears that every added keystroke cancels the previous search a starts a new one, especially on large data sets...
Solid question. Maybe use delay output on the text input.
HI.. Thank you very much.. Yeah it's almost 4 years now.. :)
Great, Shane, thanks for the video. Your channel is my #1 source goodness/troubleshooter to go to for all things PowerApps...
Shane, is there a way to implement/ enable search from one Search Box across multiple galleries within one PA. The source file is Excel with multiple worksheets represented as multiple pages of PA containing respective galleries sourced from the worksheets of the mother-Excel file. Thanks heaps, my head is hurting.. I just cant work out the way...
I think so. Set the all of the galleries to use the search function with the input being the TextInput.
Thank you for this tutorial, but my problem is that I use a people picker for the Employee column
Hi Shane,
Thanks for the videos. They are really helpful.
I'm a newbie and have some question.
1. I wanted to create a form in PowerApps. Let's say I create a form using the sharepoint list as a data source. Though I did not create the form as customized form, would I still be able to publish this in share point?
2. I have a list of 3000 employees. I tried creating a form and succeeded in doing so. I do not want to edit the form with all the relevant details of the employee whenever there is something new that needs to be added. Is there any option of entering the employee id and auto-populate other details?
For 2 try lookup to get the data. Yes for 1
can't say 4 years but 3 it is @Shane Young . thanks for videos they are really good
Thanks 😀
Landed here, learned something. No blathering.
Glad to help. 😀
Hi Shane Young,
Your video is really helpful. Btw I need your help, I cannot search in other column except "Title". I don't know how to fix it and could not find the same problem in the internet.
You can only search on Text columns 😑😑
Thanks Share, it's quite helpful. I have a question here, search bar is picking limited rows of a column. I am using spreadsheet which has 6000 rows in a column. what should i do
Excel isn’t a great datasource. Not sure there is a way to overcome this b
Thanks for the video. Does this work only on Galleries? I'm trying to apply a search box on my data table.
Nope, should work on a datatable. Put the Search() function in the Items property of the data table.
Shane, How do you get exact match is search box? I have list of equipment with similar name like component#1,2,3 but the problem I have is that I got the equipment list starting with corresponding number like when I search for component#1 I get the results for all #1,11,110 & on.
Sorry I am slow. I have never tried that so not sure.
