Finding the Craziest Game in Chess.

- I wrote an algorithm that estimates the "craziness" of a chess game by assigning points to different events that may happen throughout the game, like sacrifices, promotions, and kings near the centre of the board. Then I ranked an entire Chess database by this heuristic in the search for the craziest recorded Chess games!

For anyone who just wants to see a ridiculous Chess game that this algorithm produced it's at 6:00 💙
Without the eval this game would look like two 300s in action
Without the eval bar the engine game would look like two 300s playing
You know I am still using your website daily, its amazing thx
As a chess player & a cooked pre-med student, I can confirm that this has just inspired me to go learn programming.
Hello fellow cooked pre-med student 🫡
As a chess player and software engineer who can barely code, I can confirm this has just inspired me to get better at coding.
my god that engine game did NOT disappoint
Good job at showcasing actual code together with its explanation and graphical representation, that is something that most "code-tubers" struggle with
I get strong vibes of |The search for the saddest punt in the world | Chart Party" from Secret Base from this :)
imagine if you run this on to the entire lichess data base
There goes a month of my life. Good luck paying the electricity bill
@@Zyrexia ???
@@Zyrexia can you send us the link to your video
just 1600 elos blundering everything in bullet probably
@jamesl8542 the newest lichess database 2024 November is 29 gigabytes man
hey thanks! although i dont quite know python but still codes in other languages, i used the lichess database but to get something recent is just too big of a file and its 29.6 GB so i used the oldest version of 2013 january of just 17.8MB, i made some modifications and the code worked smoothly! new subscriber and i just realized i watched some of your videos before this one
Thanks mate 💙 glad to hear it's working okay for you
@@wintrcat i recently learned to directly decompress pgn.zst to pgn through zstandard library so i dont need to make large temporary files, took a while with the docs but i figured it out - i havent coded in 2 months due to demotivating projects but this is very cool! i hope you make more videos like this in the future 👍
Would love to see someone try and make most "crazy" game according to these predetermined aspects. Would be like a fun math problem to solve (new vid idea pog?)
Consecutive captures, crazy swings in stockfish evaluation, and blunders are also things that could be considered interesting.
Wow what a great video! Thank you for all the hours you put into that to entertain me on this fine evening!
Thanks mate :)
i love messing around with your chess programs, thanks so much for another one!
This was a great idea for a programming/chess project :)
Thanks Joe, nice to see you here :)
WAKE UP BABE WINTRCAT UPLOADED 🔥
Imagine if GothamChess got his hands on this, might feed him generations of chess games
Well you know fingers crossed lol
It's always a blessing when wintrcat uploads
Amazing video as always ❤
fire as always, best youtuber ever
"I don't understand what any of this means"
Sounds like me trying to understand chess strategy
It a little bit funny how the video about craziest games looks like the most normal video + woth minimum emotions
here is my contibutiion to add some points for the algo
Is it just me or is the chessboard from 6:05 onward quite difficult to read compared to the "normal" one?
wonderful video with some fun chess games !
i love you wintr cat
Yooo finally another video
a suggestion u should have tried the gotham chess style to hype up the games
Crazy
Are you official??
@@udupiadiudupirajesh1026 What do you mean by official?
@@Stockfisher official stockfish bot?
@@udupiadiudupirajesh1026 I'm just a random person who loves Chess and Chess engines as a whole, I don't represent the actual SF project, and am not affiliated with them. It's an open source project, developed by multiple people, the only official stuff from that project is their website and their Discord I believe.

Why are bishops and rooks crazier than knights?
Knights are the weakest pieces people regularly promote to Rook or Bishop if they don't want a queen to avoid stalemate trickiness.
Promoting to a knight is the type of trolling Hikaru does to checkmate with 4 knights.
I'm assuming you had knights as less impressive since they're more common in puzzles, but (handcrafted) puzzles aren't real life
The situations where rook/bishop promotions are the top moves are far less common than knight promotions. That was my basis; of course, it's just a subjective thing. You're free to mess around with the weights in the source code to get games that you would hold crazier
Off-topic, but how did you make your winter cat? Do you draw? and on the website how did you made it move like that? Can you share that please? thanks
No it's a picture of a character, Twig, from a netflix Series, hilda
@wintrcat oh thanks, and how did you make it move on your website?
Would have been faster to learn C++ than waiting for that Python code to run. When I saw you would scan 700k games in knew it would take the code 10h to run.
Yeah fair though it wasn't necessarily worth it just for the sake of this video. 10 hours isn't the end of the world nor is 70 if I can just run it and have it over with
IS THAT TWIG FROM HILDA?!?!
of course
Dude is it possible for an engine to find a brilliant move whenever there's available? if it;s so can u please make one. Would be of help .
You can try out a project called Blue Marlin which may help

How do I use this on a PGN file of all my games? I have the file ready :)
Go to the github and download the code. In main.py there's a variable at the top called games_directory which is the name of the folder where you should put your pgn file. You can change it if you want or just make a folder called caissabase. From line 90 to 97 there are some filters; you can remove them as you see fit. Usually I guess you'd remove the ELO ones. Then just run main.py and you'll get a log file with the craziest games.
what a game xd
Whats your Elo btw?
1814 rapid. Have not played in a while though
Make Python tutorials 😭
Ok
thats wow
Why u didnt used lichess?

I'd appreciate if you would take a little bit more time to show the games and not rush throught these like in this video. It is too fast for me to follow and enjoy. Thanks anyways
Yeah I think that's something I made a mistake with. I'll definitely try to take it a bit slower next time. Thanks so much for your feedback :)
