I'd love to see your Gizmo characters brought into the current IDW run or heck just have the issues available digitally. You're turtles stuff was great too. Some of my favorite comics. Stellar artwork.

Peter, if you're reading this, you're an absolute gem! This is amazing
See, THIS is why I love this stuff when you get the original guys who made the pages to pour over the techniques and stuff they used and whether or not I did the same in my bedroom as a teenager.

Seeing Laird himself talk about the issue that started it all in detail woke up the kid in me and made him jump around like an unhinged meth addict after a binge of his favorite shit! I'm 39 years old, and I was watching this episode like a child watching his favorite cartoon; Edge of the seat, on tippy toes.
Getting to hear one of the legends talking about the creation of the characters that were so important to me as a kid was amazing. Thanks guys. And thank you Peter Laird.

My 1 is a 2nd, but my 2 through 13 are 1sts. All bought in the day and srill in my possesion. They stayed at my Mums house for 22 years in her craft room closet with a bunch of my old Kiss stuff. Thank Mums for keeping my stuff in safe hands.

The early TMNT issues are forever my favorite comics and the things that made me truly fall in love with the medium. I still find inspiration in them. Thanks for sharing this!

Peter and Kevin were the artists that pulled me into comic books. I remember picking up TMNT 1 from a shop in Pennsylvania back in 1985 and that was all it took. Peter is by far my most favorite. Thank you.

What is inspiring? I have always been fascinated by how (and why) the creative mind works. I have spent countless hours talking with artists, musicians, filmmakers, performers, engineers, craftsmen, writers, and students about where ideas come from. I have also logged countless hours working with and/or for others in their studio spaces, offices, and creative retreats observing and asking a ton of questions. As I have grown, I am less awkward asking root questions about what motivates people and what holds them back. I love well-done process videos, oversized artist editions, and in-depth interviews. The whole "Cartoonist Kayfabe!" series is a stunning treasure of insights into the inner thinking of cartoonists. The Peter Laird interview was no exception AND this particular glimpse into the TMNT #1 "page by page" is really the deep dive I wish was available to me back when I was first starting out. I recommend liking and following this channel on RUclips. If you are at all curious about the nature of creativity, this is a good place to start. RICK

I loved the cartoons as a kid, but never really got too far into anything else Turtles related. I read comics since I was young but never got round to Turtles comics till this week. Only grew to know how respected they were in the last few years through this channel and comic Tropes. I really enjoyed it. Great to have these to listen to after each issue

I refreshed the duoshade tones in that special deluxe edition. I had an issue #1 to match up the tones. I had all the pages of original art for 2 weeks. The day I was transporting it to my home studio, it was in my portfolio with my own ‘Bioneers’ (now ‘Recombatants; Team Dragonfighters’) pages and that was strapped onto the side of my motorcycle. Pete wanted to go for a ride after work that day. Once I was at his house for the ride, he got concerned about the pages so I left it at his house until we were back from our evening ride. Then it was strapped on my motorcycle again and I promised I’d go straight to my house with it to refresh and restore the tones.

This is the greatest video so far! I’m blown away to see the great Peter Laird on the channel imparting so much fascinating knowledge. I’d love to see him talk about some other issues especially #5 and #8. It’s great to hear that he’s open to finishing volume 4 with Jim Lawson at some point and the prospect of another collaboration with Kevin Eastman to round off the Mirage TMNT would be beyond amazing. It would be very fitting as well, to finish off where they started, just two friends making some comic books for the fun of it, with nothing else to worry about.

This was awesome! Mr. Laird is amazing. I have a head sketch of Leo by him and it is a prized possession. In the Shoot Interview he teases us with the idea of new material with Mr. Eastman. I would LOVE to see that. No pressure, no rules, no global brand empire, just good, fun TMNT like this first issue. I’m not above begging and groveling! ☺️
