It’s time to redo this comparison with the new method of using the new wood chips LSG tested with the 50/50 pellets and wood chips method!
Yes please! I've seen other videos with blind comparisons, and they have trouble determining which is which with that setup.
Great job Rus!! It really does not surprise me that the offset has more smoke flavor than the pellet grill. A split of woods as it burns releases a lot more gases to really boost that smoky flavor compared to a compressed sawdust pellet. But I completely agree with Derrick that the LSG Pellet Grill has way more smoky flavor than any of the other pellet grills that I have owned. You certainly put the work in to this cook!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Jeff! Yeah, I kinda figured it would work out like that, but I had to try. I'm still super impressed with the smoke flavor and juiciness that the pellet grill brought to that pork butt. Looking forward to more cooks.
I usually spritz myself with Jack and Coke while I’m smoking meat.
I’m going to have to try that on the next butt I smoke.
I was going to make same joke. I usually do jack and apple juice. Or jack and pineapple
I love these kinda vids!!!! I've been holding off getting a pellet smoker, but I may have to invest in one like the LSG. And I agree, you cannot beat a true offset with the flavor it gives the meat, especially a well seasoned offset!!! Cheers Rus!!!! Great seeing your family and friends in the video! Hey Terynia!!!!
Hi Troy!
Hey Troy! Thanks for checking it out. I'm really enjoying this new pellet grill. I'm gonna try my best to wear it out LOL. Yeah, the offset is simply impossible to beat. That's why all your really good bbq joints use them. Cheers Troy!
@@SmokyRibsBBQ I'm sure you will wear that pellet smoker out Rus! I wish I had one too. I cannot stay up on those all night cooks anymore! LOL
@@teryniafielder7230 Hello Beautiful!!!!
@@SmokyRibsBBQ Tuna is curious about your thoughts on Vertical Smokers? LSG also sells Vertical Smokers and Tuna, has been interested in one of those, since Tuna loves Jerky, but isn't sure how they compare to Offset Smokers? Thank you.
If it’s that hard to tell the difference, that’s a very good sign for that pellet grill.
Fantastic video Rus.
It sure is Justin! Thanks for checking the video out
Well Justin, now that you have done videos on the LSG Offset, time for you to acquire their pellet grill and do a video on your channel. Looks like a nice performing grill.
Thanks for the video comparison. That pellet grill sure looks nice and is a great way to automate the cooking process. How about another comparison video with a brisket? :-)
Just a thought, letting the judges hear the other judges thoughts can influence their take. It happens. Blind taste testing, separate from other influences is the way to go. Also choking the offset down may have countered your natural/best smoking practices. Lastly, the BBQ cook is often subjected to enough smoke that it dulls his/her senses of the smokiness of the product. A shower, and change of clothes after the cook, can often refresh the olfactory senses. JMHO, Love the video and effort Russ!
Yeah, I kind of thought about that after the fact, but oh well I'm sure I will do something similar before long with some sort of beef. Get a few more cooks on the pellet grill and get the inside smelling like a smokehouse, like my offset smells when you open it up LOL Yeah as I captioned in the video, I smelled smoke and inhaled it for 9 hours. I had me useless on tasting anything really.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ Really appreciated the time and effort behind the video, the LSG pellet grill looks like a winner.
Completely off taste test too much coaching people listening prior samples
Do not choke the offset to match the pellet unreal good effort through
Spectacular review, love the honest comparison. This video is the reason I'm gonna get a LSG Pellet, before this video the thought of.a pellet smoker was completely off my radar! thank again
Re visit this with lone stars 50/50 wood chip blend
WOW.... Lone Star Grillz for the win! JD and Coke. Sounds tasty! The smoke that pellet puts out is pretty amazing. And your outside and you can see it. Love these blind taste tests. Everyone's taste buds are different. That said. When your rocking two pits that flat out smoke, Its gonna be tough to pick. Beautiful job brother!
Thanks for checking it out Tommy! I sure appreciate the comments!
If you use the LSG pellet burner , and add the wood chips to the pellet blend, you will see a more smoky flavor. The pellet grill will actually be at LEAST as smoky as the wood burner. No question. You might even find that you back DOWN on the smoke chips, as too much smoke flavor isn't what makes a good brisket. (in my opinion). When you can throw your brisket in, set the temp, and walk away until it's done it is almost a no brainer to get the LSG pellet smoker. I also think that this ONLY pertains to the LSG smoker, since I have owned the Pitt and Spits, and others, and NO other pellet smoker comes close. If you compared a Yoder, or a Pitts and Pitts to a wood burner, then the wood burner would win by leaps and bounds. No one makes a Pellet Smoker that compares to the LSG
I agree, no one builds a pellet smoker as good as LSG. I haven't used the LSG wood chips because in all honesty I just don't think they are needed.
I was planning on getting this same pellet smoker until I saw the price to my door.😳 too rich for my blood. I’m shooting for something in the very close to $4000 range.
It's not for everyone, but it certainly is built to last.
@@danielploy9143 shipping is the problem. I’d pay the $4200 for the smoker… that $750 shipping is a deal breaker for me.
Hell yes! Great video brother. That new pellet cooker is gonna be on my deck soon. Good to hear different opinions on the finished product, no BS marketing crap. Well done as always.
Thanks, I appreciate it! Enjoy that pellet grill!
Russ they both looked amazing! Thank you so much for wearing my Merch. I Appreciate you brother.
Thanks Ken! Thank you brother for sending it to me! Can't wait to try out your seasoning! You know I'm all about those kind of flavors!
@@SmokyRibsBBQYour welcome! If you like it! I will hook you up. 👍
Really great video, Rus! I’m seriously intrigued by that pellet grill. I may have to see if Chris wants another opinion 😂. Cheers, brother!
Thanks Mike! I'm loving it! Cheers!
Hello🌸🌸💖
It's a very cool and amazing video.
I was touched when I saw this.
I hope you become a warm neighbor.😊
I hope you'll always be full of love and happiness.💖🐾🌸🍒💓
Wood wins hands down everytime with me. I wouldn't use anything but wood smokers
I get what you are saying, but this pellet grill did a great job. It’s like I told Rus, the offset has nearly 6 years of seasoning where this was the first cook on the pellet grill. I actually liked the pork better off of it because it was moister.
Pretty much. It doesn't matter how thick the steel is, if it's pid, heck the type pellets don't even matter. Fact is it boils down to the fuel source and there's no substitute for wood splits. I wish they did something like ironside smokers did with a wood burning pellet assist. Saying all of that I love my smokefire. I tend to use it more just because it so easy and houston summers ain't no joke.
@@hinds90 I've got to be honest here and say that I do like the thicker steel. It really helps retain heat and balance the temps out across the pit giving less hot spots, plus it doesn't have to struggle as bad in the very cold winter months and of course longevity . Most pellets are made by only a few manufacturers and these companies put their branding on the bags, so I totally agree with that. Since this is a new pit, I will be using it a lot, but yes sir, in the hot months, it's going to be very welcome. I love my offset this time of the year and all the cooler months, but I don't use it much in the very hot months.
Great comparison.
Next time don't let the tasters hear each other's comments. They can influence each other's opinions.
I agree
It's hard to beat an offset, however, I run a pellet tube in my pellet grill for the "extra" special smoke I want directly for flavor. I'm finding maple to be one of my go tos these days for chicken, beef, and my smokey potato salad.
Great comparison of grills Russ ! I like both of your grills. But I do have a question did your wife leave you yet. ( to many grills ) and where in the world do you store all there grills ? Thank you for another good one FRANK FROM MONTANA....
🤣🤣🤣! I use them more than he does! I actually grill all the time. I love a kettle grill because they are so versatile. I have used the off set to do 6 pork butts for a friends wedding.
She was in the video, so she was still here a few days ago, LOL
@@SmokyRibsBBQ that's good my friend. You know I'm only kidding. You are a lucky man . And I love watching your video's. Thank you Frank from montana...
Thanks, great video. Would love more of these. I also like the independent observations.
I consider myself to be more old school. I have a lone star offset that I'm very happy with. I like cooking over real wood and managing the fire. I will consider a pellet grill when I am too old to manage a real fire. To me a pellet grill is pretty much an Easy-Bake oven. Set the timer and forget about it. I will give you that it is convenient, but nothing beats cooking over real wood and managing the fire manually. Just my two cents though, I ain't hating!!
Well I agree with your two cents LOL. I love tending to my offset and what it does to meats just can't be beat, but I also believe there is certainly room here at my house for a pellet grill. It's not my first one, but it will be my last.
Its perfect smoking weather here in Michigan now. In the 50s and 60s
Awesome video brutha! I have 2 recteq 700’s…have been wanting to up my game. Ordered the LSG 24x48 offset, really thought it through & realized I don’t have the time to really get good use of an offset. Canceled the offset & ordered the 20x42 pellet 😁. Really looking forward to it!!! Thanks for your detailed comparison, great job 👍
I know your going to be impressed by the amount of smoke this bad boy puts out! Enjoy!
Sweet! Mines offset. Cool to see how they compare.
My body has offset is barbecue always has a dirty smoke flavor. My family and my self all have sensitive palettes towards over smoked product. Everything turns out from the pellet grill so wonderfully, I run the silver back from Grilla grills. I normally burn Smoke Ring oak, hickory cherry. Once in a while, my sister complains about too much smoke not very often. Usually the complaint comes from chicken being too smoky or pork being too smoky never beef.
My personal preference has been the pellet grill for about seven years now. I would love to have an offset, but I really don’t think it’s necessary. I get enough smoky flavor to please everyone in my family.
I just think that certain splits with an outside bark of the tree give a dirty smoke flavor. I’ve noticed when cooking from my friends offset that if we get good, clean wood center splits, the barbecue does taste a little better to me.
The sigN of a bbq guy… always losing his beer! Love this video!!
Haha Sandy! Right on brother!
Awesome show I had Texas original pits built mine a year ago I'm thinking next year I'm going to go with a lone star thanks for the video enjoy your meet
Glad you enjoyed it! Can't go wrong with a LSG
@@SmokyRibsBBQ yeah I got a couple slabs of ribs on the smoker now and some quarter chickens smells awesome and can't wait to eat oh also too my homemade beans enjoy
First off, roll dang tide! I’ve had my first pellet smoker (I never use it as a grill) for about a year and have a few observations. Except after initial start up my pellet smoker doesn’t produce smoke the way your Lone Star did. It burns pretty clean but according to other chefs you want clean smoke. Also my pellet smoker runs much hotter than its thermostat indicates. Using a third party, and reliable, thermometer my smoker runs 30 to 50 degrees hotter. I noticed for my first few cooks the meat reached temp much sooner and it turned out dryer than expected. I’ve got a Grilla Grills Silverbac but may look at the Lone Star down the road. Always looking for more smoke flavor without the hassle of an offset. Enjoyed your video.
Love your videos keep up the great work with the food
I guess it’s time to call up Lone Star and place an order! Great video Rus, this is the kind of content is backyard hero’s love.
Taste them agin the next day. As you said your were exposed to the smoke all day. I recently did a rotisserie chicken on my Kamado. And thought it was good when I first cooked it. The next day after work I did some refrigerator raiding and wow was a big difference in my opinion the second pass.
Rus thanks for this video…..my LSG pellet is seasoned snd I’m planning to to cook on it this weekend and am happy to hear the smoke flavor is excellent on it…..so glad I got this grill!!!!
Really nice video, Rus. I enjoyed seeing everyone’s thoughts and opinions. Both some beautiful cookers you got there! Cheers 🍻
Thanks Darrin! It was a fun video. I learned a lot from it as well. Appreciate you stopping by and checking it out! Cheers 🍻
Thanks for the AWESOME review! I can't afford that pellet grill right now, but when I can, it's definitely on my list!
Excellent comparison. Another great video Russ. Thanks again
Thank you, I appreciate you watching!
Great video, Russ! As much as I wanted you to confirm that a pellet smoker can produce the same BBQ as an offset, I knew that It just isn't possible. I can't wait to receive my LSG 20x42 offset, which is now finally being fabricated. You're the one that got me interested in LSG smokers, way back when you got your offset. I'm convinced that LSG smokers are second to none. I really enjoy your channel, and thanks for all of your hard work producing these quality videos.
Thank you Robert! I appreciate the great comments! Enjoy that offset when you get it. It will be your baby I guarantee! I still love mine 5 years later.
I’d like to see the pellet chips mix vs the wood offset. Educated guess tells me the pellet would be even closer to the wood.
Wonder how long it’ll take until one of the big brands are able to run constant smoke on their pellet smokers?
Now that's absolutely awesome 👌
My wife actually sat with Me and watched this. I kinda expected the Offset to be somewhat better. And We ( My wife and I ) pretty much agree that You can't go wrong with either of the 2 Smokers . But You never know, were You to do another comparison video again. The Pellet Smoker just might win over the Offset. Regardless, I would love to see Brisket smoked on your new Pellet Smoker.... Thanks for sharing 👍
That's awesome! Thank y'all for watching. I totally agree that either one of these pits would make someone very happy. My offset has 5 years of seasoning and that was the first cook on the pellet grill, so I am expecting the meat that comes off of the pellet grill to just keep getting better and better.
I just ordered one 20x42 Pallet Smoker from Lone Star Grillz :)
I was looking at his grills for a while :) finally decided to get one ☝️:)
Love your videos dude keep up the great work love food
Great comparison Rus ! There always seems to be plenty of volunteers to taste test ! Great video Rus.
Thanks Kent, I appreciate it!
I wasn’t able to read through all the comments but I did hear the offset had 5 years of seasoning. How new/old was the pellet grill at the time this video? Thanks.
It was brand new
Why does everyone keep saying this smoker cost 4000+ dollars. It's cheaper if you get it with no options. Those rim / wheels cost 900 alone. If you get just the pit with no option it's affordable (well kinda)😏. I know I just purchased one myself 😁. So go check the website and give Chris an email if you have any questions, but yes shipping does suck if you. On the bright side there is no sales tax and that will help you some on if you have to ship it.
I don’t know! There’s just something about a pellet smoker that just takes the bbq out of bbq for me. I can’t do the press a button and walk away method. It’s just not for me! I’ve heard for fish and cheese pellets are really good, but for everything else I just stick with the offset and my ice cold beer! Cheers! Great vid!
Good Video, I have been looking at these pellet smokers by Lone Star and I really like them, we have been doing a lot of catering and the Big Green Eggs just don’t have enough room, even though I have three of them. But was worried about smoke flavor with a pellet smoker. I need one that will hold about 10 pork buts.
*First off, love the video!*
Nice work!! I really hope that wasn’t the first cook on that pellet smoker, cuz if it was, it did much better than it’s given credit for..
IMO there is really something about a well seasoned grill/smoker..
I’ve owned 6 pellet smokers and others over the years and my original Traeger is still pushing out some solid Q, and every time I get a new unit in I’m disappointed in that first cook.
But eventually they do better of course..
Also, I firmly believe that your taste buds are completely stoned after 9 hours in the smoke 🤣🤣
Damn it! I’ve had my mind set on getting the YS640 but have come across several reviews stating lack of smoke. Now this is about the 4th video I’ve seen of that LPG and I’m living in doubt. I think I’m gonna need to talk with my pastor before making a finale decision.
LOL, does your pastor BBQ haha
@@SmokyRibsBBQ What southern Baptist preacher doesn’t?
How to grill the best cheeseburger ever made
If u cook on that pellet cooker for 6 months to a year to get it seasoned. It will most likely cook just like the stick burner. And yes I have the Lone Star Grillz pellet myself. It's a huge difference between it and other pellet cookers. That thing never quit smoking. 😂 Do the same cook In a year on both of them and then test difference. Great job on a cook by the way.
The pellet cooker got that close to the offset even without the years of seasoning...I believe you got a winner.Good job Russ.
What I'd like to see is a comparison between the Pellet Grill and the Insulated Vertical (assuming you still have that Mini) with a FireBoard 2 Drive / fan... so it would basically be two pits, each thermostatically controlled with FireBoard technology, and engineered by the same company, so the comparison should in theory get much closer to charcoal and wood versus pellets being the only variable.
I've heard those Insulated Verticals with about a 60% / 40% charcoal to wood ratio get damn close to offset flavor but with the ease of a pellet grill.
Also thought that fly was on my monitor 😅
Great comparison! I've been watching your videos and waiting for this one. I placed my order back in August and can't wait for it to get here. I watched yours being delivered and said shoot now I'm going to have to wait longer....got a hold of Chris to add the off road kit to mine as well after seeing yours 😉
Well worth the wait. Your gonna love it!
Russ, give me a ring next time you need some test testing bodies. Ill increase your taste tester-football fan diversity by +1 as an Auburn fan. Far too many Bama fans in that video :) Great looking grill and nice side-by-side
Great fun video! Thanks. Brisket time
Glad you enjoyed it
I wonder if you used lone star grills post oak wood chips mixed with pecan shell pellets in the lsg pellet smoker, would it be more like an offset taste
I'm sure it would get it even closer. It's pretty close just running pellets.
Thank you, now I'm even more confused over which one I prefer, because they're both excellent.
Ultimate best of both worlds
I think the five years of seasoning on the offset made the difference, we had a old cast iron cauldron that we cooked Brunswick stew in that was about 60 years old seasoned, we made stew with a stainless steel pot over open fire one year the stew was good but you could tell it just wasn't the same.
There is nothing like cast iron to cook Brunswick stew in! I miss that!
It makes a difference for sure. Cast iron does act the same way as you said.
This was great! Thanks for the video.
Your welcome, thanks for watching!
To be fair, managing an offset fire is an art….
This is not a comment on your pork, but I have an Asmoke table top pellet grill. I did a Tri-tip like a brisket last week and I couldn't believe the smoke ring I got from it. It was even fork tender. I guess I am trying to say a pellet grill does a good job, but I still favor an offset. Great video Russ!
What I like about this pellet grill is that you can add the charcoal tray and add some hickory blocks which will add more smoke. Low temp for just for the smoke for about the 1st 3-4 hrs then take it out and finish the pork with pellets. That will give you a lot more smoke on those butts...... if that's what you like lol....
The consensus was more smoke flavor from the offset smoker but right away a couple of your testers said it was also drier including your wife who said the pellet grill version was more moist. Me personally I enjoy a bit of smoke flavor but can’t stand still tasting the smoke hours after a meal.
Thinking of replacing my 7yr old GMG pellet grill soon and I live close to LSG so I could pick one up and save a ton on shipping. It’s either the pellet grill or one of their 20 x 42 offsets.
This could be the smoker you need based on your comment. I love my offset, and there is definitely a place for a pellet grill, especially one like this.
Part of that reason was the pellet grill was done last. The meat had time to sit and rest less time. Plus I messed up when I was pulling it.
@@SmokyRibsBBQ maybe you could help me convince the wife I need one of each lol.
nicer wheels than my car !
I absolutely love your videos. Everything is so great and mouthwatering!! I was just wondering if you have an oil less fryer? I'm from the New Orleans area and I use my oil less fryer every Thanksgiving, but I'm looking for a good recipe to hopefully change things up this year. I do inject it and let it sit overnight, but I'd like to kick it up a notch and I'd like to see if you can come up with something to make it more moist and juicier with some great cajun flavors. I really hope you take on this challenge and look forward to your future videos!!!
Cow torpedo taste is not that bad
Porter Road has good meat
It all comes down to personal preference, how much you want to spend and how much time you want to spend "tending the fire."
I've had a Traeger Lil' Tex Elite since 2012 and love it. Personally, I don't want to take the time to stand around and get the fire just right and fidget with the vents etc., to keep the temperature just right.
But to each his own. Good video.
AWESOME OFFSET SMOKER & PELLET GRILL COOKOFF.. Good to see ur WIFE in the video.. I always hear how she's making the side dishes; but seeing her is GREAT.. Good to see that u have blind tasters to taste & to tell if they could tell a difference.. Hoping to see more comparisons between the two & or comparison with LSG IVS & comparison of ur choice..Keep on smokin on Rus ✌🤙
Thanks! I've got to get the pellet grill over to Derek's place (my son) so I can shoot more videos using it. Yeah Terynia make most of the sides. She enjoys it and I enjoy the grilling and smoking of the meats. Works out well.
Darn it I wanted to try the rub but there’s no shipping to Australia but they look great
Good cop, bad cop
Most excellent video Rus . I was thinking their was going to be a bigger difference in smoke flavor between the two that says a lot about LSG pellet smoker man that thing is nice .
Thanks for checking it out Lance!
How are the B&B wood splits… I’m in Long Island, NY.. I ordered a LSG offset but kinda having second thoughts because not able to find local cooking wood 🪵
They do good. They are kiln dried, and may tend to burn a little quicker than seasoned wood bought from a tree cutter, but it's about all I use now days. Great flavor however.
The Emperor found it most interesting that the "drier" of the 2 was also the smokier of the 2, from what the crowd said. Did you pull both butts off of their respective units at the same time?
Tuna likes the built in thermometers in your Pellet, is that something specific to the Pellet LSGs, or is that just what the newer LSGs are now offering, or maybe a new upgrade offered to all of their smokers?
Tuna doesn't see why a "Pellet" Smoker couldn't be the same as an Offset. From what The Emperor sees, Pellets are fed into the chamber at a steady rate to keep consistency, which is why it's "set it and forget it?" Tuna would think if this is the case, that eventually there should be a point where a Pellet Smoker can become peak quality, but The Emperor still sees many who will go for the good ol Offset(Or just using whole wood in a pit type setup) regardless of the Advancement of pellet smoker "Technology."
AS mentioned in T-Roy's comment thread, Tuna would love to see how a Vertical Smoker compares to a Traditional Offset. Both use whole wood, but one is Vertical while the Offset is more Horizontal how the smoke goes through. Now that Tuna Thinks about it, this would be similar to pits like the "Pit Barrel Cooker" as well as the "Weber Smokey Mountain." However, Tuna is very curious how the LSG Vertical Styles contend with their other products. Have you ever thought about getting a Vertical Smoker? Tuna is not very knowledgeable in the Human ways of BBQ Pits, but maybe there are specific cooking reasons why one would use a Vertical Smoker compared to an Offset... Tuna will have to look into it, but Tuna likes the idea of Vertical Smokers, because Tuna is looking to make Jerky.
Thank you, all the best.
I think they both just happen to grab pieces of bark where it is naturally going to be drier. They both finished off around the same time give or take a few minutes. The thermometer you are talking about is the controller as well. USA made Fireboard. I've got a stand alone Fireboard thermometer coming in soon that I can use on my other smokers.
Heyo Rus great and interesting video looks like both are winners to me . Truthfully I've never had anything cooked on a pellet Smoker they are popular here on the islands but from what I've seen and heard over the years on watching RUclips videos it seems like the Lone Star pellet cooker has definitely been able to mimic that off set Smoker flavor which is outstanding. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Absolutely Stephen! I've been offered 4 different brands of pellet grills while waiting on this one, and let me tell you, it was well worth the wait! Cheers!
PID controllers have really come along way over the years. If this experiment was done 5 years ago it would have been a no contest for the offset.
Loved that video! Just one question, I'm looking real hard at at LSG IVS and wondering where you'd rank the smoke flavor compared to offset and pellet smokers. Somewhere in between? Closer to one than the other?
Keep up the great work I love to watch your videos.
The IVS is pretty much like any other charcoal / wood chunk smoker in flavor. Like a kettle, drum or Kamado. Holds temps very good as well
Where can I buy orange sprayer that you are using.
www.howtobbqright.com
good video but you hadicapped the offset by using kiln dried wood. to get the best flavor u need just seasoned wood
I agree with that, but sometimes I have no choice
@@SmokyRibsBBQ again great video!
Nice video! Not sure if someone has mentioned this (couldn't read all the comments), but whenever you're doing a two-way comparison like this, it'd be helpful to do a blind triangle. Three samples for each person, two are the same, one is the odd man out. Step one - the taster has to identify the one that is the odd man out. If they are successful at identifying the odd man out, they are allowed to proceed with step two, telling you which they have a preference for.
I wish more comparison videos in the backyard BBQ world used this approach. It's hard for me to trust someone's preference without first qualifying their ability to even taste the difference.
Great idea! The main problem with the tasting in this video, was everyone could hear what was being said which could have influenced their decision when it was their turn. In hind site, I should have made the testers go inside until they were called. I like your idea a lot!
@@SmokyRibsBBQ thanks! Can't wait to see if you're able to incorporate this methodology.
A benefit of the blind triangle is that you can have two different possibilities floating out there, and no one knows what the other person has. Ideally you wouldn't hear what the other folks were saying, but it's impact is minimized if nobody knows what three samples they have in front of them on their plate.
And I forgot to mention, I'm really glad you did this comparison. It's super helpful because I am contemplating getting the LSG pellet, and it appears to be one of the leaders in achieving stick burner quality.
Side note - I'm a Bama native that's lived in Texas for over 20 years now. I'm still trying to learn to love brisket as much as pulled pork.
@BensonLedbetter The LSG is definitely the best pellet smoker on the market today! It’s built to last as well! I don’t think I’ll ever like brisket as much as good pulled or chopped pork
Not surprising at all that a offset would be better, but how much time and effort do you want to put in? I can't baby a fire for 12 hours. I have a pellet grill and love it. You probably put in 10% of the work to get 80% of the result!
I totally agree! I use the offset when I have time because I truly love sitting outside and tending to it, but we are all busy and those days are few and far inbetween
Great video Russ loved it . But I love cooking on my offset
Great video, thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Hey Rus, I'm looking for a pellet smoker but I have been unimpressed with what's out there. Does that LSG pellet really give the meat alot of smoke flavor?
Yes it does, more so than any other pellet grill out there
Great video. I commented on one of your other videos that you should do a comparison video. I found it haha. I was wondering, any ash in the cooking chamber on the pellet smoker? Thanks! Great video!
Thanks glad you found it. 99 percent of the ash collects in the bottom under the deflector plate. Cooking chamber stays very clean
Great video. I know there's a lot of interest in the pellet world on whether the Lone Star Grillz Pellet Smoker would deliver. Seems it has. Also I love fireboard, I run a fireboard with a blower on my kamado and it's excellent both in all the features, the amazing app and web app, as well as temperature control on the Kamado. So it seems the Lone Star Grills Pellet Grill infuses a bit more smoke flavor than most others? How would you compare it's smoke flavor to a Kamado grill or other charcoal + wood smoker?
It can hold it's own against any kamado or kettle grill. It delivers the smoke unlike other pellet grills, and it has a very pleasant taste.
Nice video you will pick up more smoke flavor with good pellets like lumberjack, smoke ring or BBQ Delight I know you was trying to keep everything the same and you did a very good job.
Thanks for the tips!
Im looking to buy a chargrii XD,i know its entry level offset, but i just cant afford the lsg as impressive as it is
Well I'm not one to knock any smoker that other people use, but please make sure the fire box is at least 3/16" thick. I bought a cheap offset years ago and it completely turned me off on them. It was only when I got a real offset that I seen just what is possible and how efficient they can be. My first cheap offset had a sheet metal firebox and was really just junk.
Good video, Russ. I have noticed on my pellet grill (which is an inexpensive; more common one), that the only time I see that "thin blue smoke" is for a minute or two after opening the door - essentially while its heating back up after a significant drop in temp. I figured that was how Lone Star Grills would get more smoke; however, intuitively that would mean a less efficient burn. I wonder how the fuel efficiency is effected by the continual changes in feed rate?
Probably not as good as most pellet grills that don't smoke well, but I used around 10 pounds or so on this cook. Cheaper than the offset LOL
GREAT VIDEO . I NEED TO GET THE LOANSTAR PELLET TO GO WITH MY SHIRLEY VERTICAL PIT
So great!! Thnx for the invite to be a judge, Rus. Even MORE disappointed now that I see what y'all served up. Got to make it down for a hang soon!
Your welcome Jack, and we will work something out soon. Can't wait to just hang out and talk.
thanks for the video! I have the LSG 30X36 and just ordered the 20x42 pellet. love LSG and your videos!
You're welcome! Nice pit! This pellet grill is going to impress you for certain! Enjoy!
I was going to ask for some more taste testers if my LSG offset lost. I have 24x48 LSG vertical offset.
haha! I think deep down, I already knew which pit would win before I ever started this. I've cooked on it for 5 years, and nothing I own can duplicate that flavor.
For there to be a really close flavor profile knowing the pellet smoker is way newer without years of cooks and seasoning, I am impressed. The only way to due a true comparison is to have two brand new units that have just been seasoned and do the first cook simlutaneously. That is of course for the purists and not economically sound or needed. With that said I can say that with time the pellet unit should develop the same flavor as the offset.
I totally agree! Recently did a long brisket cook on the pellet and I swear it tasted just like it came off of my offset.
Love this video wish you were my neighbor!
thanks smokey, another winner piece of film.
Great comparison video Russ. I loved the way you used the fire board from the pellet grill to see the internal temps of both butts. Smart!!!
Looking forward to seeing more videos and getting my 20x36 pellet grill early next year.
