Band Alabina (Los Ninos de Sara & Ishtar Alabina) is a French musical formation who perform a mix of world music: Middle Eastern, Arabic, French, Hebrew and Spanish-Catalan gypsy music. Band Alabina consists of lead singer Ishtar who is the lead vocal and the band Los Niños de Sara. Ishtar began working as a backup vocalist for several flamenco type acts. It was here, she was discovered by Charles Ibgui who enamored with her voice, introduced her to Los Niños de Sara. She joined the group as a lead vocalist and together they performed under the name Alabina. Alabina soon became a worldwide success. Alabina had found success mixing Flamenco, Arabic, Pop and Dance sounds. Los Niños de Sara usually sang in Spanish while Ishtar would sing in Spanish, Arabic, French, Hebrew or a mix of the languages - several songs were sung in Spanish and Arabic.

Love this song since I've heard it for the first time in 1996 or 1997 playing in German radio. Back then I had it recorded on my cassette recorder (!), wow it's been that long! I can't even tell how many times I've tried to find out who is singing it, since I had no clue, didn't know neither Spanish nor Arabic, however, few days ago I got sudden revelation that the background of this song did sound like Gypsy Kings! And found it! 🥰
It's good to put a face to this beautiful voice, although, I have to say that back then I imagined her way differently, rather Arabic that European looking woman.

All songs from the group Alabina y los ninos de Sara are old North african folk songs spiced with flamenco. This combination is very beautifull. Flamenco takes it's roots from north africa. Berber music. Not to forget that the influence of the middle east and north african music is the result of the Arabs when they conquered Spain during more than 700 years. The lyrics in all songs from the band are arabic and spanish and with very limited if not simple words. The singer is a talented Israeli singer named Ishtar. I recogn that she pronounces arabic with almost no accent. The band no longer exists.
+Peder skram berber music is totally different from flamenco... Alabina y los ninos is more like egyptian oriental music mixed with flamenco even though Egypt is in North africa but it s still considered as middle east oriental. Ishtar is israeli from Haifa so yes she can speak arabic fluently...
is it possible to find other recorded versions of these north african folk songs? what are some of the original titles, for example? i love this kind of music and would like to explore the roots of it
