Interesting, Cigar Aficionado says it has a Cameroon wrapper. At least one of their January 1st, 2013 Top25 review does. Then I went on to look at Ashton's website and it is indeed, as you mentioned, an Ecuadorian Habano Sungrown wrapper. Has the blend changed in the last 7 years? Unless I’m mistaken, my grandfather used to call the Cubans he smoked “puros.” I understood that was a reference to the wrapper, binder and filler all coming from the same country of origin.
Absolutely, your grandfather was right and I actually should have mentioned it (I usually do when a cigar _is_ a puro!). Normally a "puro" refers to all the cigar's leaf being single origin. However, the Ashton Heritage features tobaccos from both the Dominican Republic and Ecuador so the name may be a little misleading.
