maturing is realizing why my parents hated for me to watch all those rich families on youtube. they were so rich and lived such a good life, and when i would show them they would just get sad bc they couldn’t give that to me. like it honestly is heartbreaking thinking back on it and how unrealistic my expectations were

when i was like 10 (6-7 years ago) i used to watch videos of family channels of kids opening like hundreds of toys for christmas bc i hoped one day mine would be like that so i can definitely see how that type of content can be damaging to kids and make them feel like that. my family didn’t have as much money growing up so christmas was limited but always a lot of fun. family channels don’t need to exist is what i’m trynna say😭😭

Yea! When I was young I watched the Labrant Family and I was angry and quite jealous that one of their children (everleigh I believe) got so many brand partnerships resulting in her getting all the newest toys that I wanted. I honestly feel bad for all these children because even if they get a lot of toys and presents they are probably worn out from always being put in front of a camera and faking their real life. They can’t consent or say no, either….

  • @sunflowerstitchery
    @sunflowerstitchery Год назад +12

I used to watch a few family channels in my teens. In the adoption niche. Which kinda makes it worse. But it had that 'wow' factor. The families were usually large (8+ kids)
The families (mainly a channel called Crazy Pieces) I watched all seemed to have a healthy family dynamic. This may not have actually been the case because you can control what you put on the internet. But I didn't think about that at the time.
I guess the appeal for me was exactly that. These kids, in my view back then, were growing up with things that I didn't have. My family is dysfunctional. We're also not super wealthy. My parents got divorced when I was 15. I found comfort in that kind of content because of what I had lost. Plus, growing up I always felt like I was adopted. So maybe that explains my interest in adoption content.
I'm 22 now and I haven't touched content like that for 2 years now. I hope this helped in broadening your perspective, Ben.
There's a lot more that I want to talk about, but it would honestly be too long.

So when I was about 10 (currently 15), I was OBSESSED with this channel called That RUclips Family. I think the reason I liked it was because they did content with their older kids as well as the kids that were my age so I thought “oh cool, they must enjoy doing this”. BUT NO. I literally remember a video of one of the girls saying they would stay up until 2-3 in the morning recording videos and editing and then wake up at 4 to get ready for school. That is what disgusts me now. I can’t believe that parents would do that to their children and that they didn’t see a problem with it. And the only reason they had to stay up til 2-3 AM was because they had about 7 channels! Of course they were staying up that late. In any case, I find it gross and just.. no. But then? I thought they were the perfect little happy family. (Spoiler alert, they’re not.)

My aunt has a TikTok for my little cousin but she comes from the best intent, she doesn’t want money from it she just wants to share smiles and happiness to everybody! (She is the most genuine person ever) and my little cousin loves being on camera she always steals my phone when I start a video and records herself and laughs her head off, she loves it! (she is 10 months old!)

I used to watch family channels when I was like 4-8, I remember seeing what they got for Christmas and all the presents would fill up the entire living room and they couldn’t walk around cause of it. I don’t know why I found it entertaining but I did lol💀 I used to ask my parents to have a family channel with my sister too😭😭😭

I used to like watch family vlogs when I was like 6 to like 7, I really thought the fact watching someone live a very different life style than mine was like really cool and interesting then like after a month of watching them I stopped because I realized how abusive it kinda was even though I was like 7-9 or something.

i watched family channels in elementary school (i wanna say 2nd-4th or 5th grade), mainly Bratayley. the appeal for me was that they had kids my age, and in my brain it was the same thing as seeing child actors on tv. when i finally realized the difference between tv actors and youtubers i became really jealous of them, because i realized that they got to live this glamorous life with all of the things i could only dream about. honestly i think the reason i kept watching was to live through them. and it wasn't just Bratayley - any family channel I came across, I'd wonder how great my life would be if I was a part of their family. I would even ask my mom if we could become youtubers. I had this idea that family channels had these glamorous lives and I really wanted to be them. Looking back obviously that was not the case, and i wish i never watched them because all it taught me was to envy everyone else instead of living my life

I watched family channels around 10/11 years old. I'm an only child and seeing siblings playing games and doing challenges was so fun and entertaining, and I could see myself being there. Sometimes I would get jealous and wonder what it would be like if I could be a young, famous youtuber. I would pretend to be in videos talking to myself. I'm not sure what appealed to me so much, but I mostly just watched kids my age.

When I was around 9-11 years old I would watch family channels A LOT. I feel like it was damaging because I would always see the kids get hundreds of gifts for their birthday or for Christmas and it made me more disappointed whenever I got gifts that weren't nearly as big . I would always dream about becoming a youtuber or whatever and I didn't ever think about all of the negative things that would come with that. Even thinking about it now is kinda sad because real life will most likely never be as exciting as it seems in those videos. I just feel like it sets most kids up for whole bunch of disappointment and having unrealistic expectations.

The main audience for the family channel videos (as a lot of the other comments are saying) is like 7-12 year old kids ish and I think that this is because the kids watching don’t know any better. They can’t and don’t understand what’s happening and like the toxicity of these channels. Kids just want to be like the rich kids in the videos living “perfect” lives, they don’t understand what happens behind the scenes.

When I was younger around the ages of (8-11) I watched family channels and a lot of youtube in general because I was not in a really good position in life and the only thing that I did and was really allowed to do was to watch youtube and that is where I had found family youtube channels. I never really watched the ones about unboxing or the ones purely based around children or that were based around gifts and money and things because I didn't really care about that stuff. Still, I watched the ones where family would be together doing activities and playing games together because I had never really gotten the chance to experience that so that was the way where I could feel like I was involved in that aspect of a family and I received joy from it. But as I got other that stuff didn't appeal to me anymore because I had grown out of that mindset and started thinking that it was a little strange. But I will always be thankful for those channels being accessible to me at that time because in truth it had helped me a lot. Anyway, less of that rant I highly doubt that anyone will read this but it is good to think back and reflect.

I watch the Norris nuts cause they are the only family channel I like, the channel was originally the oldest girl in that family’s account (sabre) cause she skates and surfs and it got her on the Ellen show, but now they do blogs and stuff which is actually somewhat entertaining

  • @SensationalStr

A good example of this would be sis vs bro, they were so close to each other at the start of the channel and made videos about slime and other things like that but when they started getting older the channels became more about how much money they made and buying things with the money they have and they eventually grew apart and stopped making videos. Karina(sis) got a comment on one of her videos saying something about how she isn’t the same person she was before and she replied saying that’s the plan. maybe the kids liked being recorded as children but now anything they do (mostly Karina) is linked back to when went wrong in the past for this to happen and she most likely wants to be a different person from when she was like 10(idk how old she was 💀)
If you read that whole thing, thx 😅❤️
