Critical Role is an American web series in which a group of professional voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons. The show started streaming partway through the cast's first campaign in March 2015. Campaign one ended in October 2017 after 115 episodes, and campaign two, which is still ongoing, started in January 2018. A number of one-shots were aired in the hiatus between the two campaigns.
The cast own the intellectual property from the show, and the show also lends its name to the studio owned by the cast-Critical Role Productions. The studio has produced Critical Role and Talks Machina since 2018. A number of licensed works based on the show have been released, such as several comic books and two official campaign setting guides.
Cast: Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Laura Bailey, Liam O'Brien, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel.
"Don't you dare, Laura."
Dude, Matt, you created the Disco Dildo. And put "bone" in the name. This is completely on you.
I don't think he twigged the doublé entendré of it till he said it out loud
@@Tcrumpen Oh probably not. But nonetheless, it happened.
It's a very powerful magical ITEM!!!!!!
Literally a Disco Stick lol
like he said "it's not till you say i to a spesific person that you realise your mistake"
"Its a very powerful magical item!!!" will never not make me laugh uncontrollably for a few seconds. The delivery is so great.
Agreed
Can confirm, absolutely kills me every time
Reminds me of when they were mocking Melf
If i had to guess, it's because most of us (and i may be generalizing here, but i'd say most people interested in CR and/or DnD itself do have a significant nerdy side to them) can relate to this, in a way.
Truly his greatest work
I love that Matt tried to stop Laura for making dirty jokes but the rest of the cast took over and made the jokes instead lol unity
@owatahfuhlyem THE best.
he forgot, they have been ALL doing it since the beginning, love it lol
She said that all through her expression. You can read it after watching her play for so long, lol
True Companions indeed. :D
Not surprising Sam was who began the domino effect though XD.
"THIS is reusable.... but uh, make sure to wash it in between."
Oh god...There is NO SINK IN HERE!!!
_Prestidigitation!_
You mean boil it in scalding hot water, cause just scrubbing it with soap and water ain't gonna cut it
Strong tonguebath oughta sort it out
Make sure you wash it before and after every use
I love that she didn't even have to say anything. Just her presence is enough to make everything into a double entendre.
Never thought I would see that word used outside of english class during poetry
LET CHAOS REIGNNNNN
@@izzaacalley "Double entendre'' Its French and it essentially means that what @cryofpaine said means her presence alone was enough make people have to listen twice
@@XxEmortalWarriorxX double entendre means that a word has more than one interpretation. Such as "cat person". usually that means that the person likes cats but it could also mean that they are a person who IS a cat. And yes the word comes from french as is 75% of the english language. In this case it would be used because matt is describing an object that is not necessarily supposed to be inappropriate, however everyone immediately interpreted it that way.

Nice
Here we see a classic case of "The DM derails themself" in it's natural habitat
A rarity in the wild. We must take care not to disturb it
The presence is rare, but its preferred diet is rarer... SENSIBLE D&D PLAYERS
Sensible D&D Players.... now THAT is a rarity of ever there was one.
Hehe! DM change color! That face palm, though.
It is utterly hilarious that over half the crew is older than Matt, but it's obvious that Matt has to be the adult in the room for this show.
A realization I've come to living life and interacting with people much older than myself is that nobody ever actually grows up, they just add enough responsibilities to their lives so that it looks like they have.
Age is just a number showing how many times you road the giant space rock around the sun.
It ain’t the years; it’s the mileage.
Maturity is a myth.
Adulthood is not.
@Mach Dude To be fair, Travis and Laura have a son, Sam has two kids and Quyen for a wife, Liam has two kids, Marisha is younger than Matt and married to him, Ashley is engaged to Brian Foster, and Taliesin is the son of a pair of hippies. From where I sit, Matt is the only member of the group that has the qualifications to be a legit adult. :p
I love how Laura gets the blame but really it's all of them at this point.
She is usually the instigator of it, so he looks are her first, especially since Sam isn't playing a bard this time around.
"Laura, no!"
"What?"
"Sorry, force of habit"
And really, ultimately, it's Matt's fault for bringing a glass dildo into their D & D game.
@@hokutoulrik7345 Never invoke the form of the destroyer. It will wreck your rails. Even if Laura was out of the room, a reflexive “oh good, Laura’s not here” will bring her spirit into every other person present.

Long glass rod ✅
Twist the tip to activate ✅
Reusable ✅
Fun at parties ✅
It's literally got bone in the name ✅
How did all this pass by Matt when he was thinking of the item?
Ah... the pitfalls of trying to come up with something for a campaign that is seen by millions around the world on a weekly basis: you can't run a quality control test because it could ruin the show for whomever is your tester.
I'd guess the same way "perv-on" did
@@UVjoint or Mike Hunt
At least it's not like you have to LICK the tip to activate it! 😂
Because as a DM, you worry too little on how are yoy going to introduce a magical item, and more about its stats so it doesn't break the game.
The whole cast mocking Matt's indignant "no!" is peak sibling energy
Marissa trying to hold it back at the beginning for her husbands self-esteem.
Marisha
Exactly the face I make when I'm trying not to laugh
Marisha
It’s cute that she only openly laughs when he gets in the joke
@@07calabria not true. She laughs alot of times long before he even knows what's going on. She's even laughed when he was showing signs of annoyance/"Omg" face. xD
Matt: "Don't you dare, Laura!"
Laura: ...
Everyone else: *dares*
If you spare the rod, you spoil the DM ;)
Don't you dare Laura!
Everyone else: didn't say our names!!!
If you listen real close, you can almost hear the sound of a shovel scraping rock as Matt digs himself a deeper hole
Matt to himself: Laura's going to make a dirty joke
Matt to himself only a few seconds later: Oh....Hearing it out loud she doesn't need to
I was worried for Liam for a second there. He went probably a full minute without air.
I love how Talisan clearly is smiling to himself as Matt's description it but Matt notices Laura first lol
As soon as he said bone, he started watching Laura and waiting lol
Well, if he had noticed Taliesin smile, he still could have been relatively sure that Taliesin wasn't going to make a dirty joke about it, because that kind of remark would have been very out of character for Caduceus, while Jester is cracking dick jokes all the time.
You can see his face going red almost immediately.
watch Taliesin from the beginning he knows what's coming and is trying to hold it back
Taliesin channeling his inner Mollymauk
OMG HE IS
This makes me re-think why so many magical items are rod-shaped.
just hope it isn't a wand of fireballs or magic missiles
There is actually a bit of Phycology to that, I believe it was Freud that hypothesised that men are biologically wired to create as many phallus and boob shaped objects cos of their biological urge to 'spread seed'. This was Freud though, his ideas weren't exactly always 'sane'
A rod is easy to grasp in hand and easy to make as the traditional material, wood, naturally comes in the shape already.
@@TimoRutanen, thank you for having the wholesome take on this that might swerve the topic back up towards the light.
@@Tcrumpen isnt freud the cocaine guy
Laura Bailey: does nothing.
Everyone else: goes there anyway.
Matt Mercer: attempts to speak, but looks at Laura.
Laura Bailey : blinks, like once.
Everyone: dies
Haha the aura of laura has become quite pervasive. :D
you mean perversive, not pervasive.
@@MusicBeatlover92 Groan
Well we all know Laura has the mouth of an angry sailor with a tooth ache who also stubbed their toe
@@deathbykonami5487 you mean fjord?
@@arancourt5623 Fjord, Kaine, many names, same sailor mouth
Matt creating a magic item: a long glass rod with a ring on one end that you twist to activate, and it's reusable. What should I call it?
Also Matt: the solo-bone
Celebone.*
@@davidparkes7741 r/woosh
@@hitsugatatsuro9978 Not sure why you're wooshing me, yes I get the implications of the design of the object but it IS spelt as Celebone.
@@davidparkes7741 They were making a joke by the spelling. Celebone sounds awfully close to solo bone. Like bone yourself solo style as in use a dildo. So yeah, woosh. It happens though. Stuff goes over my head all the time.
@@TheToastyNinja You live near an airport?
Thank you for making a clip of this "powerful magical" moment!
0:54 the moment when Matt's inner adult new that it had failed to stop his inner child. Let chaos reign indeed
Matt: "Laura, don't you dare."
Rest of the cast: "allow us, then"
After perhaps six years of DM-ing for Laura, you'd think Matt would be anticipating which bits of his writing would fall straight into the hands of Laura's sense of humour...
You've got a choice: you either allow Laura Bailey her double entendres, or you Wirte the whole campaign in the style of Captain Raymond Holt.
@@Zombiewithabowtie I would pay to play to pay in a campaign written like that.
@@earlhazell3489 Laura would still probably make it dirty there is no winning XD
Liam to the audience: "I could say turducken and you people would make a sexual innuendo"
@@Direwolf181 She'd channel Jake and proclaim "Title of Your Sex Tape" at the perfect moment.
0:36 Liam dropped the bomb XD can't stop laughing
This is just priceless
“It’s a very powerful magical item.”
I have been player to so many of those moments where my DM had to explain that because one of my teammates is equally perverted as Laura.
She was holding it in so well, too, before Matt himself broke character, and she wasn't the first of the players to break. Glorious.
Laura's chaotic energy is so powerful she doesn't even need to say a word to detail a situation. Just being present there, makes It derail itself
Matt: Don't you dare Laura.
Laura: *Stops*
Sam: iTs aN iNviSIbLe dILDo?
His mistake was looking her in the face as he spoke lol.
she doees this slight lip-purse with eye contact and hes like "Nooooooo"
Laura Freaking Bailey can make a room fall into chaos with just a look. She is... The person who won D&D
TWICE! :D
Matt, with the cellabone: “Watch this!”
Me: “Oh no, he’s going to make it disappear.”
That "StoOoOop" was just perfect👌🤣
Matts australian accent is really good honestly. Felt like i was just down the street.
It really is! Surprised to see less comments about this, very few people can get it right
It was a good Aussie accent definitely, though I think he was trying for an NZ accent, at least that's what I got from Marisha's misidentify of the accent.
Though as an actual Kiwi I can definitely say it's not one.
i read this in an Australian accent in my head
He also does a very good Scottish accent - I'm talking the "Layaway Dwarven Lass" 😉
Matt get so red after saying "watch this". I love it.
My favorite part of the clip
😂 after the end it continues: "So she twists it, and immediately it gives off BRIGHT colored lights. Like a DISCO. All different colors within a kaleidoscope of light, within a 20ft radius. She says, 'Now this'll last for an hour and can be used once a day.'" ...Oh my.
My immediate reaction would be like "once a day? Those are rookie numbers."
The blank check Matt writes for anyone to picture whatever they want when he says “watch this” after all that is priceless
I love how Laura didn't even say anything this time, Matt drew attention to the innuendo and the rest jumped on it
I love how red Matt's face gets during this whole fiasco lmao
Matt: "watch this"
Laura: 👀
Matt: *loses it*
I love that Laura didn't have to say anything. She just tried not to laugh and Matt immediately knew it was too late.
You ever dig yourself into a hole and refuse to stop digging? Matt Mercer has.
Laura derailed that train purely by presence alone. Epic.
Matt: "dont you dare, laura"
Sam: "Well that aint my name"
Laura Campaign 1: "I'm surrounded by children and imbeciles. Except for Trinket of course."
Laura Campaign 2: "Chaos Lady ascending to her throne!"
You can always count on Lara Bailey to be the 13 year old in the room.
"Laura, no!"
"What?"
"Sorry, force of habit"
Thank you! I was looking for this scene.
Matt losing it and flipping the bird did it for me. He knew he had brought upon himself too.
All while hes face is turning red
Liam's Joke is probably one of my favorite ones from the entire show
We can all appreciate how long Matt pushed through before it finally broke him
Laura didn't even need to say anything. Her pure chaotic energy infects everyone at the table
Some days, the magic item makes you disappear ;
some days, you make the magic item disappear.
Laura Bailey has the magical power of being able to make a joke without even opening her mouth.
The closed captioning for this scene is fun to watch. It calls Liam's tone "mockingly resentful". *chef's kiss*
This is the clip that definitively started my love journey for critical role, so thank you 🙏🏽. Without this clip I may never have found out about CR.
Thank you for including the captions 😂
When the DM goes there *for* you...
My moment was when i said to the party "The wizards guild in this town is called Order of the Golden Tower". Next thing I said was "I think I need to change the name of this guild..." as everyone was LOLing...
Thanks for keeping the subtitles as it really helps.
Matt: Don't you dare Laura....
Sam, rolling natural 20 on initiative......
Liam follows up with Vicious Mockery on hes turn
Matt then gets a 1 and gives up trying to save face
And the DM is defeated, Setup by none other than the DM!
This randomly reminded me of some story a former teacher of mine was trying to tell as part of a lecture once, which I remember nothing about other than it involved two lesbians arguing about a cucumber of all things. It was not intended to sound dirty, but the teacher realized what she was saying about partway through while the whole class was just sitting stoically, trying not to laugh, and waiting for her to realize.
Moments like that don't come along often. Write that crap down in a journal.
I love you can see Laura doing that "I'm totally not smiling" face just before Matt notices it.
It's always fun listening to moments like these on the podcast. You just feel it coming while listening.
I love that ALL of them started smirking the moment the heard “celebone” and heard the description…but it was LAURA that got the blame 😂
The “watch this-“ into the entire party busting up is just DIABOLICAL because every single one of them thought it was gonna start vibrating
Laura: "I'm not trying to laugh at sexual innuendos but it's HARD... So very, very HARD..."
That’s what she said
Liam's "IT'S A VERY POWERFUL MAGICAL ITEM"
When the DM breaks himself, but blames it on the player who USUALLY introduces innuendos lol
Liam just fucking sent me with the "noO iTs a vEry PowErfuL maGIcaL iTem" lmaoooo
makes me laugh every fucking time lmfao
"So she twists it..."
You mean Laura knows it's all in the twist, and Travis enjoys every minute of it?
before becoming a dm i didnt understand the pain that matt could go through when i said a word wrong.
"watch this" and immediately he has broken himself.
Travis's "No!" is eerily spot on Matt's voice
This magical item is called the vibe rator
0:13 those hand gestures are pretty lewd. Matt pulling out his rod "this is my celebone! Oh and don't you dare make any dirty jokes while I'm talking about my pp, I mean celebone!
Dont you dare laura.... *rest of the cast* "we got you Boo."
My DM once named a planet Gathuk, didn’t see the issue until the word left out mouths. Needless to say by the end of the session he was telling us all to Gathuk ourselves
1:10 My buddy knows exactly how you feel. He wrote a power for an Epic Level boss that had a 75% chance of negating any damage he received.
The name?
Force Skin.
I forgot about this and I'm so glad I got to relive this again.
'its a very powerful magical item'
“Watch this” had me dying 😂😂😂😂
Honestly the best part other then Liam mocking Matt's tone
Is the fact that Matt just rolls with it and starts carrying on the joke
Laura levelled up to a whole new dimension of pranking. That takes skill when you no longer need to say anything to throw people off
And in the Feywild a red-haired DemiGod ArchFey grinned with the utmost joy.
reminder that this was before Mike Hunt
The shocking part is that Matt got that far before thinking that Laura was going to turn it dirty. I saw it coming from his first sentence.
Dude, had matt NOT said "Don't you dare Laura." They may have let it go lmao
She's so powerful she doesn't even have to say anything for chaos to erupt
"So she twists it..." 😂
The “watch this” followed by uncontrollable laughter is the highlight of this for me 😂😂😂
Mike Hunt's favourite instrument
The moment when matt just gives in.
As an Australian, I approve of Matts Australian accent.
Noone speaking on how good of an Aussie Accent this DM has! Insanely goooood!
Laura's face when he said "watch this!" :D
I remember when this aired. 'There isn't a party in these parts I haven't had some hand in' Spit up my soda -.-
I love how he joined in on the bit instead of brushing it off tho. Gotta love Master DM Matt
For anyone playing Call of the Netherdeep, let me tell you that this is surely how the Bone Garden got its name.
I DM'd a one shot using chapter 3, so I didn't see the bone garden in the book yet. Where is that at?
I love how red he gets, look at the difference between his hand and his head
