For teddy bear, i see it as she got into a relationship with someone who appeared nice and quiet, but turned out to be troubled, like the phrase, its always the quiet ones you need to watch out for, which through the song you can see she questions if she should feel scared because they have probably been together for a while and share history and she doesn't want to believe it
Girl I totally get what you’re saying, your interpretation of Milk and Cookies surpassed the original meaning of the song!! Nonetheless it makes me happy that you’ll watch the MVs because Melanie is 100% a visual artist and her MVs are 🔥🔥🔥
Just one thing to clear up: Dead to Me and Bittersweet Tragedy were released BEFORE Cry Baby while Gingerbread Man was released as a christmas single AFTER Cry baby
@@NoteToLoser really? i find cake to be very soft and dreamy imo. like i get what youre saying musically but its something about the vibes for me. dunno if that makes sense LMAO
Cake was the first song from Melanie that I heard so it's special for me and I was so disappointed that she didn't like it as much as the other ones. Gingerbread man is a banger though
Melanie has been a HUGE supporter of interpreting the music on your own. Every song will mean something different to each person and even outside of Crybaby (the character) the metaphors and powerful lyrics stand alone perfectly. You have the correct attitude toward this, even if the storyline is good too ;)
i agree alot with your point about how everyone should come up with their own interpretation of art. i love melenie and i watch these reactions to see other ppl enjoy the music i love, and i love your interpretations of them. it kinda ruins the fun if u take the lyrics so literally and not give any leeway for fun and interpretation
Thank you for bringing to light the weird feeling that Cake gives you inside your mouth/ head. It has always done the same thing to me for years, but I’ve never heard anyone else talk about it. I’ve even played it for friends and they didn’t know what I was talking about
So, Dead to Me and bittersweet tragedy are Crybaby outtakes. After she developed the story more she decided to cut them. If listening to leaked songs aren't your thing, there are 4 she performed live that you'd probably love: You Love I, Night Mime, Gold Diggin Love, A thousand Words. There's also her pre-dollhouse songs, which include some of my favorites: Dear porcupines and Curly Cue.
As a fan of hers, I get what you mean when you say the “sharpness” of Crybaby's production. I can hear that too now that I'm older, and prefer the production of her later and newer work.
To be totally honest, the production of portals bothers me the most. Especially with the songs with heavy voice effects when in my opinion, Melanie's raw vocals would've improved
10:46 when you talked about Mel not finishing the training wheels story, she did finish it in soap! A bit like Tag you're it and Milk and cookies, the two songs are connected, love your interpretations though :D
fun fact: during teddy bear, in that bridge where she is practically speaking gibberish, its actually saying "threw you out, I didn't out grow you" in reverse:D
Fun fact the line “your favorite candy is cotton that’s why all your teeth are rotten” in sippy cup means that the person she’s referring to is insecure so they soak cotton balls in a drink then eat it cuz cotton balls don’t have that much calories but food does
Hi Cass! Just to clear the question of the Deluxe MV's. As far as I'm concerned, no videos were released for the Deluxe tracks and the Dollhouse EP exclusive tracks, but in 2018/2019/2020 (can't really remember) information sources did leak that Melanie was recording the MV to Playdate thanks to the popularity it started gaining on Tiktok, but nothing ended up being released officially, so yeah, no need to worry about those
So glad you reacted to these!! Most of these songs (especially Bittersweet Tragedy and Dead to Me) are so underrated in the Melanie fandom but they’re SO good😍 Also none of the songs in this video have music videos, Melanie doesn’t do music videos for deluxe songs and singles. :) I think the main reason why people really wanted you to watch the MVs is because they help you understand what the songs mean in the storyline, but I understand your reason why you prefer not to with the first listen. It’s really fun to interpret songs on your own and some songs don’t just have one meaning, some songs can mean different things to different people! That’s one of the best things about art, people will view and connect with it in different ways.🩵 Can’t wait for your K-12 reaction!🩷
The deluxe tracks in Cry Baby were supposed to get Music Videos as melanie tweeted in 2016 (she said: "Here's a surprise for you bbies! Cake, Teddy Bear and Play Date are having music videos! " she didnt release/ film them because of the allegations being made against her from Timothy Heller
HEYY! for the part in teddy bear where you were confuaed on what she was saying, shes saying a part a part in the pre chorus (i think thats what it is, dont come for me) "Threw you out, didnt outgrow you" In reverse!
I feel like you would love a lot of the k-12 album being as her voice and sound has matured so much from crybaby to k-12! ☺️ you should definitely give it a listen!
Gingerbread man is about how she want someone who treats her right, the way she wants to be treated. And no she’s not saying she wants someone bad, she wants the person who is “Crazy, and never calls her baby” she’s saying she wants crazy, because people call others crazy for being themselves, and being accepting, because those are the people that would love her for her. That’s who she wants. She doesn’t want people calling her “baby” because she is referring to people calling her an ACTUAL baby, like cooing at her, and saying she needs a man to make her better, that’s what she means when she says she doesn’t want a man who calls her baby.
your reactions always feel like listening with a friend and not like a youtuber. you listen to what really interests you, not just what gets the most views. you say what you truly think, not sugar coat for the obsessed fans or rage bait to get reactions out of people. and most importantly you have a true appreciation for how much work goes into music (you said it in the lana paradise ep reaction) so you are respectful with your opinions and that cultivates respectful discussions in the comments. of course i don’t actually know you but that’s the impression i get from your channel :)! btw i also think gingerbread man sounds really smooth.
As a crybaby who has been following mel since 2015 she herself has said she loves when people have their own meaning over her music and own interpretation 🩷 yes she attaches art for us to have a visual bit overall music is much more than that and that's what's beautiful about any song 🫶🏻 thank u for ur reactions and please keep doing u 🩷
100% with you on the first taking in the song and then watching the videos, I did the same with Melanie and it only made my experience better. Also, gingerbread man being your fav so far is so real because same!!
Absolutely agree with your points, the most fun part of music is to build your own interpretation besides learning what is intended from the artist. Don’t be afraid to make your own interpretations. And yeah all of Mel’s albums are concept albums, especially K-12 that has an entire movie for it, Im glad that your also seeing the music videos after listening to the music on its own, Mel does wonderfully visually as much as she does lyrically. Hope you enjoy the rest of her music! 🩷
If u are interested Melanie also made a movie with her k-12 album with her music videos but also with commentary actors and various characters. Edit: I totally understand interpreting by your own first I love doing that too :) It just helps us understand Melanie’s theme of life and death, growing up as a baby in crybaby, school in k-12 and reincarnation in Portals. At the end of the K-12 movie you see Melanie jump through a portal for portals to come out years later
i would love to see you react to K-12, maybe even the film? as well as After School EP and Portals! i really love your takes on her songs! and i love Melanie! ^^
Gingerbread man is one of my favorite as well ! Cant wait for you to go through k-12 its a masterpiece ! The reason we say “watch the videos” is because Melanie has a whole storyline for Crybaby.(Her brother named her because she cried loud) She was born “crybaby” so crybaby is like the birth of her it is her as a kid overly emotional Dollhouse is about her family not being so perfect and how all the messed up shit is happening behind the scenes Sippy cup is about her mom trying to kills her a with alcohol poisoning (force her to drink alcohol) Carousel is about loving someone and chasing them when they’ll never love you the way you love them Alphabet boy is about a boy who pretends he’s better than her. That just because he won the spelling b it makes him more superior Soap is oversharing Training wheels is a love song it’s about training wheels in a relationship like taking things slow and maybe even to slow Pity party is about inviting people to your party and no one showing up not even the boy from training wheels Tag your it is about being kidnapped by the big bad wolf Milk and cookies is about her escaping the big bad wolf by poisoning him Pact her is about knowing and being told he wants you but he stays with the other girl and being so tired of her lying and him lying that you just want her to shut up almost like jealousy Mrs potato head music video is beautiful It’s about a woman who is forced into surgery by her husband it’s his gift to her to get her to look the way he wants her to look making her blonde when she’s a brunette forcing her to dress a type of way he likes and in the end not loving her and leaving her because she got botched- crybaby is essentially watching this all on tv and realizing hey im beautiful the way i was born Mad hatter is legit going mad and accepting that you are crazy and that’s okay Keep in mind her songs have several different meanings but on par for Crybaby’s story this is kind of the basis
When going into k-12 keep in mind there are 13 songs it is starting from Kindergarten, and ending with 12th grade senior prom. It also ends with Crybabies death- in a way can’t spoil to much
*DAMN!!!* I completely forgot about"Playdate"despite being 1 of my favorite of all the Melanie Martinez's songs I've listened to!!!🤩I also made a video with that song,as I did with _a lot_ of Melanie's songs in my"Mako Mermaids"Era!!! 06:06 - 06:09 Man,this line breaks my heart every single time!!🥺💔 10:19 - 10:24 Fun fact..in the video _I_ made with this song, since it was about Lyla&Zac from"Mako Mermaids",I"turned"that sound into"Lyla-la-la"...😉 22:38 - 22:46 It's not crazy because it's personal taste. This is 1 of the songs that I _don't_ like, musically speaking(and to me music >>>>>> lyrics in songs simply because if I like the lyrics but not the music I could read the thing as if it was a poem, but I would never be able to enjoy it as a song while if I like the music I can listen to a"karaoke"version or I can dislike what the song is saying and still enjoying the music part),so it can never be 1 of my favorite. There are some Melanie's songs that I love, musically speaking, some that I like and others that I dislike.Among the ones you've listened to here I love"Playdate",like"Teddy Bear"and dislike all the others,so "Gingerbread Man"is 1 of those I dislike.Sorry.
I can only tell you that Teddy bear is the masterpiece for me, its my fav song beside alphabet boy. "Teddy bear you were my teddy bear" her voice there is so goood. Hope u like the k-12 ur doing amazing❤

You need to react to Chappell Roan's Album - Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. I think you're gonna love it, and the poetry that is the lyrics on the whole album tbh !!
I respect you wanting to interpret the music on your own because though there is a main story it can mean multiple things to different people. I did suggest listening to the music videos last video but I guess in your tone of voice you probably had some hate comments or people telling you passive aggressively, I personally don’t care if you look at the MV or not I am happy other people are enjoying one of my favorite artists. ❤
in teddy bear in that one part she’s saying “threw you out, didn’t outgrow you” in reverse
Cool!

After k-12 definitely check out After School Ep,the lyricism is the best.
The reason we say “watch the videos” is because Melanie has a whole storyline for Crybaby.(Her brother named her because she cried loud)
She was born “crybaby” so crybaby is like the birth of her it is her as a kid overly emotional
Dollhouse is about her family not being so perfect and how all the messed up shit is happening behind the scenes
Sippy cup is about her mom trying to kills her a with alcohol poisoning (force her to drink alcohol)
Carousel is about loving someone and chasing them when they’ll never love you the way you love them
Alphabet boy is about a boy who pretends he’s better than her. That just because he won the spelling b it makes him more superior
Soap is oversharing
Training wheels is a love song it’s about training wheels in a relationship like taking things slow and maybe even to slow
Pity party is about inviting people to your party and no one showing up not even the boy from training wheels
Tag your it is about being kidnapped by the big bad wolf
Milk and cookies is about her escaping the big bad wolf by poisoning him
Pact her is about knowing and being told he wants you but he stays with the other girl and being so tired of her lying and him lying that you just want her to shut up almost like jealousy
Mrs potato head music video is beautiful
It’s about a woman who is forced into surgery by her husband it’s his gift to her to get her to look the way he wants her to look making her blonde when she’s a brunette forcing her to dress a type of way he likes and in the end not loving her and leaving her because she got botched- crybaby is essentially watching this all on tv and realizing hey im beautiful the way i was born
Mad hatter is legit going mad and accepting that you are crazy and that’s okay
Keep in mind her songs have several different meanings but on par for Crybaby’s story this is kind of the basis
When going into k-12 keep in mind there are 13 songs it is starting from Kindergarten, and ending with 12th grade senior prom.
It also ends with Crybabies death- in a way can’t spoil to much

I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure teddy bear the backwards words are “we worked hard for this we worked hard for this darling we worked hard for this I’m fuckin scared”
i LOVE your analysis and takes on all the songs you react to!! hope you keep reacting to melanie!!
You need to react to Chappell Roan's Album - Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. I think you're gonna love it, and the poetry that is the lyrics on the whole album tbh !!
We love the Melanie Martinez reactions !!!
Teddy bears part that you didn't know what she was saying is reversed the unreversed one it says "threw you out didn't outgrow you"
I respect you wanting to interpret the music on your own because though there is a main story it can mean multiple things to different people. I did suggest listening to the music videos last video but I guess in your tone of voice you probably had some hate comments or people telling you passive aggressively, I personally don’t care if you look at the MV or not I am happy other people are enjoying one of my favorite artists. ❤
she's saying "i didn't outgrow you" in reverse near the end of teddy bear!
your voice is so satisfying
It’s pronounced K-12 (K trough twelve) not K12 💗💗
So excited for this video
tysm for this!! omg I never see people react to bittersweet tragedy
