Looking forward to the Cinema Tony.
Woolworths was the first big shop to arrive in our town, where i lived unti 1964. Fine Fare and Tesco followed. As you say, records, Pick'n'mix also, torches ,batteries, clothes, and garden plants that was in the 60s. Fond memories indeed!
    Thanks. All the best.

Morning Tony, sorry I'm late watching this week. That's a nice kit, oh I do remember Woolies. They were responsible for taking much of my pocket money in the late 50s and through the 60s. Not only the pick-n-mix but airfix model aeroplanes, records and so much more. Back to the kit, it's a really good idea to highlight some of the lines like on the pediment it brings the 3d effect to life. That area around the windows and doors looks so good. When you finnish your back scene it's going to be amazing. Also adding the extra plinth at the top is excellent. Really don't mind which is next, for me the Odeon brings back memories of "Saturday morning pictures" when I look back we did have the best of times. Things are a lot better here with Anne she's getting some tone back and not dribbling anymore when she's drinking her cup of tea. Hopefully another couple of weeks and we'll be there. Love the you both stay well, Eddy and Anne xxx

No need to apologise Eddy. spent many Saturday mornings going to wollies for the latest records. and the change went on the pick a mix's. that was the good old days. That's great news with your dear Anne, give here my regards, and Laura sends her regards and love. take of each other. all the best Tony. & Mrs T....

Hi Tony. Yes I remember 'Woolies' . We had one in Derby when i was a boy; in fact one of my sisters used to work there and my mum used to take me with her shopping. She would buy me a toy that cost a tanner (six pence in old money) which was always 'Made in Hong Kong.' On Kingsway Kits, I've often looked at these kits and especially the fire stations and police stations but space is the issue on my lay out as I'm sure it is on other peoples. They also do some really good freebies. Anyway, thanks for the video; I'm looking forward to your work with the others.

Good evening Alfie. I must have bought hundreds of singles from woollies. some of which i still have today. Great and happy days.

Good old Woolies, a very fitting model and similarities to the Littlehampton and Chichester ones. Like the extra cornice and step detail/ enhancement, you did well again reducing the depth, both buildings nicely compliment each other. They are quite reasonably priced too. The pic n mix was a weak point of ours. My son got the Hornby Intercity 225 set for an unbelievable £20 in their post Xmas sale, still got it too in its box, yet to DCC it! Happy days, such a shame not around any more. All the best Stephen

These kits are an easy build for you, but by limiting yourself in depth, gives you a challenge to make it fit. You seem to be enjoying doing these as a break from your usual scratch builds. we had 'Woolies' out here in New Zealand too(They are still using that trading name but it is a supermarket chain owned by the Australian conglomerate Coles). .I too think that you should choose the Cinema. When I was a boy there was 1 movie theatre that on a Saturday morning had a Chum's Club that showed A couple of cartoons, a serial or two before 1/2 time, when you had enough time to toilet and que to get an ice cream before the main movie, that ended at lunch time. Was given a 'bob' (1 Shilling equal to 12d [Pennies]) and that was our entry fee, plus an ice cream and some Jaffas (small red hard candy coated balls of chocolate) that some ended up being allowed to roll down the wooden floor during the movie. Heard about the snow storms hitting the UK and hope you and Mrs Tony are safe and warm. Take carer my friend. Arthur

Dear Tony, Michael from Chandwell did a very interesting vid, just last week, on transparent UV protective applications. His comparison mainly included the difference between brand inks and generic ink products, where he prints most of his textures on his Canon inkjet printer. The difference he showed was stunning. The generic ink covered with the UV protection faded just quick as the unprotected version. The brand inks held out better, but he added that longer exposure to sunlight may show those inks may fade as well.
Personally, I’m not fond of transparent UV applications. In general, they tend to ‘yellow’ more and compered to opaque UV resistant paint, their performance is significantly below average. Curious to what your experience will be with the test pieces you’re planning.
Took a look at the Kingsway site, they definitely got some great models, although mostly in 1:76!
Great build, curious for the next ones and the Yarrow Road backdrop! Plus the promising 3D effects these kits will create for your other backgrounds! Cheers

I have to say Tony, I have been really impressed with these kits. Clair just saw the intro and really liked the Station Arcade or whatever it was called, so that is always a good positive! 😄
They seem to offer a really good compromise between ease of construction and level of detail. Love the options they give you too, because you can always try the other bits on other projects later of to add to other kits. Like the look of that pub too. Julian on Station Road made up a lovely old 1970s pub kit which considering its age looked awesome with a few added details, and that pub looks almost like a contemporary version of it! 😎
As for the next one, I reckon go for the cinema next 1) cos there are lots of boozers on the layout already so at least everyone can get a drink easily enough if they don’t mind a good walk and 2) after buying all the pick n mix, they’ll need somewhere to eat it all and throw it back up again when they’ve had too much. All part of the cinema ritual isn’t it? 😂 3) on a more serious note, I think the cinema should be the next major building along in that street scene as the pub can be popped on the corner, maybe (if there is room) have the street curve a little or have the tavern offset and proud of the other buildings, which I have seen in plenty of places before now 👍🍻🍀

I suppose you are aware that Woolworths are alive and well in Oz as a supermarket chain. I don't think there is a connection with the English or American chains. Coles in Oz used to run variety stores more like the English Woolies, and now we also have The Reject Shop and Cheap as Chips chains of "dollar shops" which cater to the budget minded among us.

Tony, would it enhance these kits if the window glass areas got a dab of high gloss clear after squirting them with the UV protecting matte? It need not be mullion to mullion, just a hint of gloss on each pane to reflect light.
