Such a gripping and realistically detailed tale was so powerful that I felt distressed physically.

That's what I always loved about Jack London. No moralizing just another great and believable story.

    49 minutes ... 67 matches... 1967 ... The year of my 49-year-old dad's death. I adored Jack London in my childhood. .. " What a telling name! - Bill ... & " grinning sailors"... 👣

I love Jack London, no one describes the tough natural environment better, imho. To Catch A Fire is a great story of his.

Having read much of London's work as a kid, and then some as an adult, I thought the title sounded a little off. It should be Love of Life; not Love of a Life. That said, thank you for posting this.

Narration is better on this one.

Problem ...no background to to story. Who are the characters?
    What century is this?
    Why are they here?

No time in a short story for any of the questions you have, and also no need! When a story is told well, as well as this one, the character, the century are all and any.

Wolf, look up Jack London online. The answers to all of your questions are there.

I believe most of his stories are set in the 1890s. This takes place in Northern Canada.

That's kind of the point. It's about a lot of unremembered people who tried and failed to survive in conditions like that. This story goes to show how lucky some were.

Jack London is overrated. I thought I give him a try but this is horrible story telling. Just get on with the frickn story already.
