The thing is. If you go on cameradecision and u compare both of them, the a7r has more megapixels obviously, better color depth and higher dynamic range. And somehow "better High ISO performance". Not sure about that one but surely the a7r would be really good for photography. My concern is what you said at 1:57 . Does it really add motion blur even at like 1/100th of a second when snapping photos? That's actually kind of funny lol but would be kind of a deal breaker.
I love my Sony a7 ii now there is a learning curve but wow if you learn how all the menus work wow this is my first nice camera.people wine about battery life just get the grip from Sony and all the updates wow it's sweet.I am not rich so I purchased this in 2020 and I love it great video have a good one.new sub here
That thing about less megapixel, better low light performance, it's because of the sensor pixel area or photosites are bigger, thus retaining more light. Now, the A7RII having a Backlight Illuminated sensor, it negates that a little
bruh.. I had the a7r and it was only good on a tripod. The camera shake from the shutter was annoying. I have the a7ii now and it's waaaay better. The IBIS makes a big difference, and I'll gladly take less megapixels for cleaner sharper images. No question. Go with the A7ii, buy some high quality lenses and step up your post processing game. The image quality will be so good, you wouldn't notice the difference. Not to mention you'll save a lot of money in the long run.
Wait bruh, why are you talking shit? I got the A7r 2 days ago (switched from a 5d mk3), and I had 2 shoots and the images are ridiculously sharp! Hand holded the camera all the time and there were no problems. I believe IBIS would make a huge difference when shooting video, but you can't say that the A7R is only usable on a tripod, if you believe that you can't take a picture to begin with...
Convincing, but I need both photography and cinematography , and I'm also on a tight budget, if the A7II can make video quality identical to a A7II , I'll definitely go for the A7II. P.S I need clean video output, plus enough megapixels so that I can turn my photos into a wallpaper.... I'm in desperate need of advice ! Please everyone...
Hm... my colleagues all recommended A7R for me, but as seeing this video, I'm starting to doubt that A7R can achieve what I want.... I need clean video output for live events and a decent image quality, the A7II seems better, but how's the filmmaking performances ?
If you're going heavy into video, for sure the A7S line is where you should start your research. I think you'll find it is much more suited for film making.
Bought a second hand A7R but resold it after a week. The shutter noise was so so loud which was a massive problem for me as I do street photography. I wish I had watched this video before buying it. I have now a a7r2 so so quiet.
i have been thinking about the A7r but landscape photography ONLY!!. i do like the idea of the large sensor but it really seems like a first generation camera. Features are missing like the electronic first curtain no phase detection and the lack of eye autofocus make this camera very specific and not versatile. i have the original A7 and that camera is more versatile in my opinion
Great review, but I have to laugh at anyone that is asking about 24 vs 36 Mpixels. I have been making BILLBOARD prints for 15 years and that was from 1-3 megs files. TODAY everyone wants more and you just don't need it. NONE of you are making a 14 FOOT (by 48') Print. SO GET OVER IT PEOPLE you don't need 20+ meg cameras.
You are forgetting about the most important thing - cropping. With 36mpx camera I can just take one 35mm lens and when needed crop the image to 50 or 85 mm and i still have plenty of resolution. Its great when you want to travel light with just one lens.
I've been waiting so long for this comparison
glad to help!
I love the a7r for its Sound
I'm happy with the A7II. I have on seen the A7R at camera shows when it first came out and yes it was loud.
You answered my question. I will most likely purchased the a7ii today! Thank you and Peace!!
No worries at all, feel free to check back in after you get it, i'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.
@@RTPerspective It arrived yesterday!
Got my sub! the perfect video. I was considering both cameras but now at this point I'm leaning towards the A7ii, thanks!
thank you homie, welcome to the #ldfamilia let me know how you like it when you get it.
You missed the perfect opportunity to show some image comparignson between the two cameras...
Good to know. That's what I was curious about.

Today, would recommend the a7r for stills if someone already had an a7iii used for video?
i have the same question. Im nervous about that shutter shock though
never think twice after see all comment, a7ii i guess that i need.

interesting stuff... sometimes the really nerdy stuff goes right over my head!
It may be loud but the shutter vibration compared to the Canon 5dmk3 the Canon shake was twice as bad in tests.

But what’s better for film?
SWE-BMW-E90 that's the a7r TWO they're talking about the first one

i agree with you on this.
The A7r has EYE-AF??
it does not have eye af
Ulises Martinez have you ever seen a A7r? Im holding it in my hand and I damn sure can use EYE-AF... At least Google it

I wondered some of the same things when stepping up from the 6000. Defenitly happy with my 7ii. Good stuff as always man !! 👍👊
thank you homie.
You're THE man!!!! thank you thank you for the comparison!
thank you for stopping by!
thanks man !
