I have heard many, many people sing Danny Boy, male and female , and from decades ago until today. This is without doubt the best version of all of them. Fantastic, unsurpassed.

Agreed. I myself discovered this film in 2020 when Dan Vávra- the lead developer of my all-time favourite game Mafia from 2002 talked about gangster movies which he took inspiration from and Miller's Crossing was mentioned among them. Since the first time I watched it, it is among my TOP gangster movies of all time.

I loved the film, but the strong accents made it less than appealing to the word of mouth population, which is required for attendance to make a film a great one. So many characters introduced, that it was almost too many sidebar stories to keep up with. That was the flim's greatest distraction, but I do love the film.

Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!
But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
You'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!

Danny Boy was written by the English composer Frederick Edward Weatherly (1848-1929). The tune it uses is the Londonderry Air.

I not only want it piped in at my funeral, but I want the words written on my headstone. Frank's voice is rich and unmatched.

    정말 감동적인 노래다
'밀러스 크로싱(Miller's crossing) 내 가슴을 뜨겁게 하는 감동 연출이다.
내 트럼펫 소리에 못지 않은 아름다움이다.

I remember when I first listened to this, Miller's Crossing was a great fucking movie that's underappreciated to the point of it not mattering, because it's a great film and it doesn't need no fanbase, just love. But this song, maaan this song was sooo beautiful and haunting, and by far the best version of this classic, I've listened to quiet a few versions of this song, I think like 10 or 15, out of the dozens out there. this and the johnny Cash version really get me going with their sincerity

@jamesbuckie1 Ye is used as regularly in Ireland as you is in the states. The plural is yeese. I know it doesn't sound like a word, but it is here in Ireland. I live in Clonmel, the hometown of Frank Patterson and know some of his family.

There musta been some Lypracohen magic in that tommy gun of Albert Finney. It shot at least two hundred rounds. If its not the best version of all time it is one of the best shootouts in the history of film.

Robert White also gives an excellent rendering. As a tenor I've sung Danny Boy hundreds of times always to raptuous applause, a much loved song.
