I saw The Lighthouse in a small old theatre in Tempe this week, and I feel that it made the experience feel more authentic. This is one of the few times I’m in people’s faces about this movie. It seriously takes me back to watching old classics with my grandparents as a kid. The first thing I thought, was how much my grandfather would have loved this movie. The dialogue wasn’t that hard to follow, either. I had heard from a few sources that it took time getting used to, but I followed along fine....I guess bouncing all over the US has its benefits in understanding accents and dialects better... Seriously, I loved every second of the movie and I’m going to have to see it again soon.
Saw both and 100% agree. The Lighthouse did not have subtitles and honestly I'm glad I saw it that way, I wouldn't want anything taking my eyes off those expressive faces for half a second and it really helps you get into Pattinson's character's shoes when you're being absolutely overwhelmed by Dafoe's masterful monologues

I live in the town next to where The Lighthouse was filmed and I know a few people who worked on the set, I can give some testimony on the effort put into the set design. They built a complete replica of a local lighthouse, but larger, as the original one was too small for filming and it had a lot of tourist traffic. Yes, literally an entire lighthouse, what you see in the movie is a complete structure built for the purpose of the film. Some parts of the film (mostly indoor shots) were done in one of the hangars at the nearby Yarmouth Airport.
Which lighthouse? I know they constructed it on the rock where the Cape Forchu lighthouse is, but that looks completely different. Eggers was searching all over for a lighthouse to use & couldn't find one he wanted, but loved the location for Cape Forchu & built it there.
After so many reviews with a 1 to 4 ratings (which honestly deserved them) it's so exciting to see a 9 and a 10 in a single video, I'm excited to watch both of them!
I watched these two movies back to back and while they are fundamentally different they share many similarities. Especially how both directors put insane amount of work on the the physical movie set, as well as the endings of each movies.
i saw parasite in austraila mainly because i live there but also because i saw your rating and because off who made it and it was fantastic so thanks man
Just imagine seeing this video 3 months back in July, and finding out that one of these two movies would go on to win the Oscar for Best Picture. I'm not sure which of the two would be more surprising, but Parasite is sensationally deserving of winning
I was almost crying while you talked about The Lighthouse. The Witch is my favourite horror movie and I'm so hyped for The Lighthouse. Even more so after this review!
My older brother said that foreing films were not good, but then we saw the film on the last month of 2019, and he said, "you do have a good pick for movies".
Just came back from watching The Lighthouse and your review was the first one I wanted to hear. Thanks for your insight, there’s always memes in the comments but we all respect when you give a film such a high rating. I didn’t think you would give this a 10/10 but it definitely deserves it. Also I needed subtitles but I felt like that added to the whole experience because people don’t talk like that anymore, I was way more immersed but on second watch I’d love subtitles.
I've seen today "The Lighthouse" which I wanted to see "Parasite" so I decided to see this movie instead and I have to say....it was amazing. Such a creepy psychological insane film about two seaman been working at the lighthouse for days until one of them felt their diabolical problems and they hallucinated their overdose minds. I can describe how this movie can really meant; however, this is by far the best gorgeous looking black and white which was shot in square shot ratio, two performances were excellent including Dafoe have given his outstanding performance as a stereotypical sea captain (probably having him an Oscar), the editing is great, cinematography was nicely shot, great sound, fantastic music, and such a symbolic weird movie which I wanted to know what's going with these two including the ending can explained about how they manage of their mentally cases whether it felt weird or what? It's very comfortable movie for the most part and if anything, I want to watch again its beyond an amazing movie that I wanted to know more. Thanks Adam and of course IHE, Ralph, and Karsten have given two big thumbs up and I would rate it 5 over 5 so I would say an amazing original weird movie. Drink up me laddies.
I watched The Lighthouse yesterday and I cannot stress enough how deeply I got sucked into the movie. Immediately from the very opening where all you could hear was the sea, the seagulls and the foghorn piercing the sky, I felt absorbed by the island. I couldn't even think of anything beyond these two characters who were simply doing their job fueling this monolithic beast roaring into the fog.
As someone who just saw The Lighthouse in theaters with no subtitles, I really feel like I have to watch it again with subtitles. Great movie, but I definitely missed out on dialogue multiple times throughout. Can't wait to see what else I missed.
I can’t wait to see both of these as soon as possible. Thank fuck I live close enough to a decent hipster theatre where I might actually be able to see films like these.

I’ve only seen The Lighthouse once and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Such a unique experience!
After so many reviews with a 1 to 4 ratings (which honestly deserved them) it's so exciting to see a 9 and a 10 in a single video, I'm excited to watch both of them!
"Parasite" is my best movie of the year by far ..
So very excited to watch "The Lighthouse" ! And I LOVED "The Witch"
When i saw Parasite i was the only one in the theatre who wasn't above the age of 40
BattleUp Saber SAME😂😂😂😂
I’m 14, and everyone else in my theatre was middle aged
My cinema was packed with 20 something’s.
Leon Lawson hipsters have good taste
@@aryavirsangwan6837damn i feel you
The Witch didn't have jumpscares, it's original and it made too much sense so 0/10, give me more horror movie reboots and Conjuring sequels.
It was like nothing I've ever seen and I hated it for that reason!
Nah It was fucking boring
Nah the witch was trash but I really wanna see the lighthouse.
@@Hopium500 the witch was fucking excellent, what're you talking about
Idan Winter yes thank you it was a fine movie and was better than anything coming from the conjuring
I watched these two movies back to back and while they are fundamentally different they share many similarities. Especially how both directors put insane amount of work on the the physical movie set, as well as the endings of each movies.
I seen ye sparrin’ with the gulls

I love these little videos where you show us interesting films. I really appreciate that you make these
Both Parasite and The Lighthouse are officially slated for October
i saw parasite in austraila mainly because i live there but also because i saw your rating and because off who made it and it was fantastic so thanks man
Saw Parasite during it's opening week with my mother and I absolutely love it. Very keen to see The Lighthouse since I enjoyed The VVitch.
You have a very critical eye... so I get really excited when you praise movies this much. I want to see them now.
Just imagine seeing this video 3 months back in July, and finding out that one of these two movies would go on to win the Oscar for Best Picture. I'm not sure which of the two would be more surprising, but Parasite is sensationally deserving of winning
So happy you loved Lighthouse. The Witch is one of my favorite films from the last ten years. Cant wait to see it.
YMS just gave a movie a 10?!
I feel special to have even witnessed it.
I've been waiting for you to review this one. So damn stoked to see The Lighthouse.
I'm so happy The Lighthouse is great, it's one of my most anticipated movies of the year
I just watched the lighthouse without subtitles.
Definitely needed them
Can't wait to absorb and digest it, and watch again
Came back here after seeing the Lighthouse trailer. Honestly just glad to see it getting some buzz.
Two of the years very best movies in one amazingly well written and spoken and edited video review.
The 2 best movies of 2019, personally preferred parasite but what a great year for cinema
Drink up me laddies.
now that i’ve seen both of these films i realize how next level this double review is.
The moment we’ve all been waiting for.
Bro, now I HAVE to see The Lighthouse. Let's hope it gets a fat release.
It wont.
At least in Europe
As someone who just saw The Lighthouse in theaters with no subtitles, I really feel like I have to watch it again with subtitles. Great movie, but I definitely missed out on dialogue multiple times throughout. Can't wait to see what else I missed.
10/10 for _The Lighthouse_ from YMS? Wow. It really must be something else. Loved _The VVitch's_ visuals.
I can’t wait to see both of these as soon as possible. Thank fuck I live close enough to a decent hipster theatre where I might actually be able to see films like these.
Just got out of LH.
Some guy walked out with visible disgust on his face 10 minutes before credits. 10/10
I’m super excited for The Lighthouse. Your review makes the wait even more intense!
Who's here after Parasite won Best Picture?
you're here after parasite won best picture, which means everyone here after you is here after parasite won best picture
