Regarding "Justified Black Eye" - I remember Tony talking way back when that it was about a friend or girlfriend. He said she had been in an abusive relationship prior and had a lot of trauma from it. He talked about how they would be sitting together, he would move his hand to grab coffee or something like that and she would flinch. In general most of his lyrics were very personal in nature.
So all of us that were NUFAN fans from back in the day. My first time seeing them was 94 and I was hooked. We all grew up with them. As the sound changed with Tony’s writing style we were all getting older and past the angry shaved head days of our younger years! So his coffee shop music made sense to all of us! Tony’s song writing is second to none! Lyrically he’s a fing genius
No Use and Tony Sly are incredible. Saying a band should change their name if their sound changes is WILD. If anything Tony and No Use evolved, became better musicians and songwriters.
Who said that, and in what context? I mean, when AFI dropped Sing The Sorrow, they ABSOLUTELY should have changed their name imo. But I mean, it's not that big a deal
@@thepunkrockreview, for sure I'll be back. By the way, it's off topic sorry, but today I'm fascinated and curious about this band: Standard Issue (Persist album). This is pure melodic punk/HC. This is fascinating because it's one of those bands that appeared in the middle of the 90s scene and the guys disappeared... Like ghosts.
