"The Ranger vets are on their way from Baja. I've never seen one before, but I heard they chew nails and spit napalm."-NCR soldiers
some crazy things must have been going on in Baja
Enclave remnant probably. The only thing that would spook the NCR more than the Legion would be the Enclave. And for the look of it. With the forces stretching too thin. It enables Hank and his Enclave cronies to slip in undetected and bomb Shady Sand.
If I recall, it was raiders in Baja, and very vicious ones at that.
@@CruelPeach6 Nothing was happening Chief Hanlon said that

NCR Ranger armor is so iconic in fallout.
Perfect outfit for a Post Nuclear Apocalypse setting
The riot gear is one of the best non-power armor
SO ICONIC!
VROOM VROOM VROOM
But... isn't that armor specifically from the Desert Rangers, the group that inhabited Nevada and Arizona that merged with the NCR after fighting Ceasar? I mean, yes, they are now part of the NCR Rangers, and, yes it's a super iconic armor, but, it's not been in the NCR for long, it's not really iconic to the faction.

Nope, it was a lesbian communist.
This still is America son, we have Presidents here. And there is only one President who can save the NCR: A boy who grew up in rural Kentucky with his best friend Honey, a man of the people, a man who still remembers America's favourite passtime, a man named _John Henry Eden_ to rebuild this great republic.

Extremely based for regarding Tactics as canon.
I mean to be fair all he covered here was the schism leading to a minority being placed on Airships and then those airships crashing causing the Midwest Brotherhood.
From terminal entries in other games (3, NV & 4) we know there was a schism; that the minority were sent to hunt down Super Mutants; that the Western BoS airships were all destroyed; and that there is a Midwest brotherhood. He may have gotten a bit into detail about the airship crash but until something directly contradicts it we have enough facts to piece together that those actual events did happen more or less as depicted in Tactics.
If anything it’s based that he included the Super Mutants going to Texas which implies the Brother of Steel game is cannon. 😅
To be fair parts of it is Canon. When you ask if the brotherhood ever took on a project like the prydwen, Kells says there are reports of a Midwestern fleet in the 2190s but that reports vary
@@dillonblair6491 Not according to Bethesda sadly. They've been retconning so much of classic Fallout, Tactics included.

Well House gave the necessary answer long ago.
@@wmetz1869 "If you want to know the fate of Democracies, look out the windows"

I was there. I played those games back in the day. Feels like a piece of history now. I was there when the Vault Dweller was sent out to find a replacement waterchip. I was there when the Chosen One was given his quest to find the G.E.C.K. Those were good times.
Shoutout to the TV show for retconning the location of Shady Sands... and then nuking it.
Why is it where the Boneyard is supposed to be. Did the showrunners not have access to a map?
@@youraveragescotsman7119 And why is the boneyard an uninhabitable wasteland devoid of the infrastructure that made it a bustling population center in the pre-show NCR.
I’ve been told it ‘doesn’t matter,’ but it bothers me that writers, with the blessing of Bethesda, chose to mess with pre established canon from games none of them had a part in making.
Instead of picking another part of the country or having it set on the East Coast, they made the decision to rewrite what Interplay/Black Isle and Obsidian created.
Call me conspiratorial, but it feels like Howard trying to reshape something he has no claim to into something he can call his own. Artists don’t go into museums and touch up Renaissance paintings because they think they can do better… the world that Fallout 1&2 established should be shown the same level of respect.
@@mackenzieblair8135it’s pretty clear that Bethesda is going to use the show to clear the board so to speak. Get rid of the NCR and other strong factions out west so they can eventually set up their own stories in those regions and cherry pick what they want to use while having an excuse to ignore what they don’t. Bet they do the same with New Vegas & Midwest. Player choices from prior games won’t matter because any change that was made will have been undone by the time we see it.

@@thomasleonardis711 I'm no Bethesda fanboy, I prefer the West Coast setting of Fallout which wasn't Bethesda's. But, it wasn't only their idea that the NCR had to fall. It was also Avellone's idea. It's heavily suggested as a possibility in Lonesome Road, and, to be honest, even though I'm a boomer that grew and up and saw the NCR appear and grow, I think severely hitting the NCR at the very least was the right choice. If the NCR keeps winning the whole setting will just become "NCR: The Game".
There must be a balance between Bethesda's "perpetual shady towns" and the setting progressing too much in a way too similar to the real world with a single powerful faction.
I hope the TV show at the very least revives an offshoot of the NCR that still survives and is still committed to their ideas.

These lore videos are good at fleshing out the world of Fallout; with the emergence and progression of factions, both new and old, appearing across the map. It shows plenty of story opportunities in all these concurrent events.
A Fallout between Fallout 1 & 2 with Vault Dweller saving his former 3 friends from vault 13 and building Arroyo could be an immense fun.
I never played many fallout games, but just hearing the story being told is fascinating to hear. It's a true work of art.
Unless it’s the TV show where they just erased any trace of them other than a few flags, so what if shady sands is gone, where are the other massive NCR cities, where’s their army, navy and airforce? Where are the rangers? Even if the ncr was completely destroyed the rangers would most likely carry on keeping law and order as they did before they unified with the NCR

Great video!
The reason I love the NCR the most out of all factions is because they exist the way they do thanks to the player’s actions. To understand why their faction is so powerful is to understand a bit of the core lore of the original games. We help out some little fledgling town and then suddenly the next time we see them they’re the biggest and most developed nation in North America, maybe even the world! It’s like the butterfly effect, and I think that’s neat.

i need more fallout lore bro
would you guys be able to do a general fallout universe timeline video? the fallout wiki has a pretty good timeline explanation but i think a video from you would be great
Fallout notes on plausible lore and some assumptions being made from the Fallout show. There are many opinions on who or what dropped the initial atomic bombs in 2077. However, it is not necessarily confirmed that Vault Tek dropped the bombs in a direct way, or in a controllable way, even within the Fallout show of 2024. The way of initial bombs dropped, may have occurred is that she (Barb) only made a suggestion they drop the bombs, but the situation between the nations was more complex and could not be that easily manipulated. Yes, the Vault Tek were manipulators, but even they had limits to what they could do, and may had over confidence on what they could do. It is still unknown as to who, (or what) cause the initial dropping of bombs. It should be noted that as seen in Fallout 76 that various types of bombs kept being dropped only a short 25 years later. There are still unverified facts in the Fallout universe.
Hard to watch this after the show 😢
Don't worry, I found it hard to watch the show and quit after two episodes lol. It's great if you love Fallout 4, Boy in Fridge logic and cartoon villains.

Fallout 3/Lyons Brotherhood fans: "Sometimes dead is better, my friends. You might not like what comes back otherwise."

Arroyo - Ahr Roy Oh, is this text to speech?
Never played the games but I'm loving these videos. Such a rich lore. Would make a good movie series but Hollywood is never keen on killing anyone of importance off so the Vault Dweller would likely end up immortal or the story condensed into less than 50 years.
Well the new show just completely destroyed the NCR off screen over a family dispute that didn’t even involve the NCR. So not a person but definitely one of the most important factions in the series is basically gone. 😅
@thomasleonardis711 Ugh, not surprising I guess. It's unfortunate though. I'm still working my way through the series. It always amazes me that companies can take such great IP and mismanaged it so much. They should just do a faithful adaptation of the original lore and then get creative with subsequent spin-offs.
@@thomasleonardis711nah, it's not completely destroyed, just locally in some areas. Shady Sands was just one city, while the NCR covered a few states worth of territory.
The NCR was never wrote as a faction with a certain future anyways, the possibility of it ending for a number of reasons was always placed clearly on the table for anyone paying attention.
@@zaatas of course it’s in the nature of the games that it was possible for it to fall. And New Vegas did a great job of showing the cracks starting to form. But none of that mattered or caused it to fall. They just nuked it. Off screen. Wiped it away so it didn’t need to be dealt with narratively. And while it’s a multistate faction the implication is that it fell when Shady Sands did. That’s why we see a former ranger as a wastelander. There isn’t any NCR presence in the area at all except for what are essentially raiders. No mention of what the NCR did to help in the wake of the bombing. Just a vault full of refugees and a remnant of the military who seem to not have any command structure beyond the local “warlord”. It’s a massive step back and an obvious subversion for subversions sake. It isn’t good writing.
@@thomasleonardis711 I don't understand what you mean by don't have to deal with narratively when the raiders we see in the beginning are actually survivors, part of a cult, led by Moldaver. A big part of the show is a plot centered around the implications bombing Shady Sands had, and how each main character is connected to that event somehow.
The show is also heavy into flashbacks, so I imagine season 2 will give some more information about Shady Sands as well. So we will probably see Shady Sands pre crater through someone's pov.
I'm not sure what is being subverted. Or what you mean by being subverted for subversions sake. Massive step back for the NCR? Massive step back in your expectations where the NCR should be?
I'm just going to say the implication you are picking up on is wrong, the NCR still exists, we only see a few locations locally, and know part of the story as of yet.
thx

Because last I checked it wasn't smack in the center of the L.A. "BONEYARD". And how was Hank (the NCR's Osama Bin Laden) able to cross ALL of NCR controlled territory and make it to Vegas? I get that he basically has a jet pack, but does he have a fuckin teleporter too? It's sloppy, 6th grade level trash that doesn't stand up to an iota of rational thought.
@northerner3340 just because you weren't hand held through everything doesn't mean it doesn't exist. We didn't see any NCR because we were in LA. The NCR there has been dealt a horrid blow. We only went to Vegas for 10 seconds. We didn't see up Northern California like San Francisco. Just because you don't see NCR doesn't mean they are wiped out. Season 2 being set in Nevada almost guarantees NCR play a role based on the events of New Vegas. How did Hank sneak through? Because we needed a cool stinger at the end of the season.
@@shanewilliams9122 Season 2 being in Nevada doesn't mean anything of seeing more of the NCR if season 1 is anything to go off of, seeing as it was in the Heart of NCR and we saw next to nothing. And of the "Only 10 seconds" we saw of Vegas were of it in literal ruin in the after credits. Bethesda is incapable of writing a POST-apocalyptic story, only apocalyptic. It's way the state of half the places in FO3-4 don't make sense 200 year AFTER the war (Little Lamplight staying populated by children under 16/Rivet City having a 40 year mirelurk problem and heaps of trash everywhere/Diamond City have 40sq ft of farmland and ever more trash....)
But what ever dude, let them write slop, and just keep eating it up.
@@northerner3340You are just a Bethesda hater. You are not critically analyzing anything. The original games were filled with slop writing. It was never a world built by master crafters. So let's just distance ourselves from the idea that the original games were sacred somehow in this regard
There would be no discussion about this period without Bethesda building the obscure fan base the games originally had into the juggernaut it is today. There would be no show, or have nearly as many people going back to enjoy the original games and it's lore. It would be a foot note in gaming history, not still actively shaping it.
The showrunners and Todd Howard have both gone on the record to state that parts of the NCR still exist. Just because you don't see something, doesn't mean it no longer exists. This is a skill we learn as babies with the game peekaboo.
The NCR at it's peak never guarded the border between it's territory with such totality. There would absolutely be places people could sneak through. Also, it's pretty easy to avoid capture when you can fly away in a bullet proof chassis.
Yes, democracy :D
