@deepmalyachakraborty9878they are brutes, or irrational animals, and we are rational. Plato was right about the scale of nature. We are in the middle position, between higher creatures like spirits and divinities and irrational animals, vegetables, and inanimate creatures. There is no difference between man and the lower animals in a mechanistic world. The difference is in our unifying initiative activity, our act of being directed towards the end of being a man, which is that of a rational animal. It is not a difference in intensity, but in kind. Brutes are not capable of discursive reasoning, they can not set proposition after proposition and demonstrate true results, nor do they receive the intellectual intuition which secure the possibility of certainty in a demonstrative scientific system.

@@exhumus Darwin was seriously puzzled by heritability, and not satisfied with his own speculations. His tentative conclusions about heritability were wrong, and would have been different and much more accurate if he'd read Mendel. He wouldn't have done more with it than 20th century scientists, it just would have been done earlier. Darwin's theory would have been more readily accepted, and Mendel's work would have sparked more study much earlier, because Darwin's work would have brought it to prominence. And we might be ahead of where we are now.
